sad to give a low rating because the staff here is AMAZING and kind. But my dog came here for a teeth cleaning and was here all day. I brought her back home (she had a cone on). and I didn't realize til ~5 days later that she was infested with fleas (i'm talking dozens and dozens of the buggers) ... and wasn't able to scratch herself to let me know. I can't say for certain it was from the vet, but I have a feeling it was since she was there the entire day and didn't have them prior to going there

Welcome to VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group
Welcome to the introduction of VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group, a Pet Hospital located at 1401 N Sepulveda Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, USA. This facility offers a range of veterinary medical and dental services for pets. You can contact them at (310) 546-5731 or +1 310-546-5731.
Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group appear to be mixed. One customer expressed sadness in giving a low rating, specifically because they found the staff to be "AMAZING and kind." However, this positive feedback regarding the staff was overshadowed by a negative experience where their dog, who underwent a teeth cleaning and was at the hospital for the entire day, was found to be heavily infested with fleas approximately five days later. While the reviewer could not definitively state that the fleas originated from the vet, they had a strong suspicion due to the timeline and the fact that their dog did not have fleas prior to the visit. The dog's cone, worn post-cleaning, prevented her from scratching and alerting her owner to the infestation immediately.
Another review presents a more critical perspective, noting a perceived shift in the clinic's focus after being taken over by VCA. This customer felt that the emphasis had moved towards maximizing financial gains from clients. They described a recent visit for two dogs where a significant portion of the consultation time was spent discussing the costs of various procedures, with a basic tooth extraction being quoted at a substantial $3500. The reviewer also alleged that the clinic itemizes even minor aspects of care to inflate the final bill. They further critiqued the wellness exam as seemingly perfunctory and expressed nostalgia for previous doctors who, in their experience, spent more time examining the animals and engaging with the owners. This customer concluded that VCA's primary concern is financial profit and advised readers to be skeptical of any official response to their review.
Regarding the environment of VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group, one review explicitly mentions the staff as "AMAZING and kind," suggesting a positive and caring interpersonal atmosphere. However, the cleanliness of the facility is not directly addressed in the provided reviews, except for the implication in the flea incident review. The second review does not comment on the physical environment but focuses on the perceived change in the clinic's operational ethos post-VCA acquisition.
The services offered at VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group, as suggested by its name, include both medical and dental care for animals. The reviews mention a teeth cleaning procedure and a tooth extraction, indicating that dental services are part of their offerings. Standard veterinary medical services such as wellness exams would also be expected. However, the second review raises concerns about the thoroughness of these exams under the current management.
Features of VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group that can be gleaned from the reviews include a staff that is perceived as "AMAZING and kind." On the other hand, a potential feature, according to one reviewer's negative experience, is a focus on detailed itemization of charges which they felt led to inflated costs. The availability of dental services, such as teeth cleaning and extractions, is also a feature.
In terms of promotional information, the positive feedback about the kindness and quality of the staff could be seen as a promotional point. However, this is significantly tempered by the negative experiences shared in the same and another review regarding potential issues with hygiene leading to infestations and concerns about overcharging and a perceived decline in the quality of care and attention provided by the veterinarians.
To summarize the aspects of VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group based on the provided reviews:
- Staff: Described as "AMAZING and kind."
- Services: Offers medical and dental services, including teeth cleaning and tooth extractions. Wellness exams are also performed, though one review questioned their thoroughness.
- Potential Issues: One customer reported their dog acquiring a significant flea infestation after a day-long stay for teeth cleaning. Another expressed concerns about a focus on maximizing costs and a decline in the quality of veterinary examinations since VCA took over.
- Pricing Perception: One review suggested potentially high costs, with a basic tooth extraction quoted at $3500, and a feeling of being overcharged through detailed itemization.
For local users in Singapore who may have connections in the Manhattan Beach, California area or are interested in understanding international perspectives on veterinary care, the reviews for VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group present a complex picture. While the staff is appreciated for their kindness, there are concerns raised about potential hygiene issues and the cost and quality of services following the VCA acquisition. These contrasting experiences highlight the importance of considering multiple sources of information when choosing a pet hospital.
If you are located in Manhattan Beach, California, the reviews for VCA Animal Medical & Dental Group suggest that while the staff is friendly and caring, it may be prudent to inquire thoroughly about hygiene practices, the details and costs of any proposed treatments, and the nature of the veterinary examinations performed. The experiences shared by other pet owners indicate potential areas of concern that you might want to discuss with the clinic before entrusting them with your pet's care.

Oct 15, 2024 · Andrea LiuThis vet was great... until VCA took it over. Gradually, it became a place that cares about one thing only: gouging its customers for money. I had a visit for two dogs, and for the 20 minutes of time with the asst and dr, 19 of those minutes was them telling me how much everything would cost and that a super basic tooth extraction would run $3500. They itemize (make up) every little thing so they can justify the final absurd cost. The wellness exam is a joke, who knows what they do in the back (for 2 minutes). In the past, the other drs would actually spend time in the room, examine the dogs, ask questions. Not any more. VCA is about the almighty dollar. Sad. (And whatever the "owner" writes in response to this, don't believe it.)
Oct 19, 2024 · Dave RingI cannot recommend this place enough!! The VCA Animal Medical & Dental staff are SO awesome and take great care of my large breed dog. I truly feel like they take care of her like she is their own pet. They are also very efficient, knowledgable and were very patient in explaining their recommended care. They have become my go-to primary care for my dog!
Jul 22, 2024 · Alisa DixonThis is an amazing vet office I’m so grateful for, they’re the best!! Not only do they stay on top of things for routine care so you don’t lapse on vaccinations or annual tests, but they’re there for you when your fur baby is under the weather. And they’re not a big clinic, so my dog has received continuity of care. The vet has always been conservative and appropriate with recommendations for diagnostic testing and treatment so bills don’t get too crazy. And even though sometimes bills can get high, I’ve never regretted it or felt “sold”; I always felt grateful for the attention my dog received because he always feels better. They know what they’re doing! ❤️
Jul 01, 2023 · Christina HutchinsonGreat place and super nice friendly staff but VERY EXPENSIVE!!! We paid about $500 for our dogs first visit because they said he needed all these shots (which I didn't believe he did), plus new pet visit fee. Then they told us to come back for a booster follow up shot and we thought it was included in the original price we paid, but it's not. They said its an additional $96 for the booster.
