For dog owners across Maryland, finding a reliable and engaging outdoor space for their beloved canine companions to exercise and socialize off-leash is a true asset. In White Plains, MD, Turkey Hill Park stands out as a consistently praised destination, offering a fantastic environment for dogs of all sizes and their human counterparts. This article is tailored for local users in the Maryland region, aiming to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Turkey Hill Park, highlighting its unique features and why it’s a cherished part of the local community.
Turkey Hill Park is more than just a patch of grass; it's a vibrant, well-maintained hub for the canine community in Charles County, Maryland. Operated by Charles County Government's Parks and Grounds Division, this public off-leash area is a "go-to park" for many, offering a safe and expansive environment where dogs can truly thrive. As one happy customer enthusiastically stated, their "furbaby" runs "until his heart's content," highlighting the generous space available for energetic pups.
The park is thoughtfully designed to cater to a variety of needs. It features "obstacle course that dogs can do too," adding an element of fun and mental stimulation beyond just free running. The consistent feedback points to a positive social atmosphere, with both "Dogs and their pawrents are friendly too." This fosters a welcoming environment where both pets and people can connect and build a sense of community. While some larger regional parks might offer expansive acreage, Turkey Hill Park focuses on providing a concentrated, well-equipped, and managed space, making it an ideal daily destination for Maryland residents seeking a secure and stimulating environment for their dogs. It’s a place where dogs can play, explore, and simply "have a blast," as evidenced by the joyful face of one visitor's pup.
Turkey Hill Park is conveniently located at 9430 Turkey Hill Rd, White Plains, MD 20695, USA. It is part of the larger Turkey Hill Park complex. This address places it within easy reach for many residents of White Plains, La Plata, and other surrounding communities in Charles County, Maryland. Its location near major roads in the area ensures straightforward navigation and accessibility for dog owners throughout the region.
The park is a public facility, and parking is typically free and readily available within the park grounds, making it easy for visitors to access the dog park area. Turkey Hill Park is one of two official dog parks operated by Charles County Government (the other being White Plains Dog Park), indicating a commitment to providing dedicated off-leash spaces for residents. Its clear address and accessible location contribute significantly to its popularity, making it a practical choice for everyday visits or weekend outings for Maryland's dog-loving population.
- Designated Off-Leash Areas: The park features two separate fenced-in areas: a large section for general dog play and a smaller area for smaller dogs, puppies (at least 4 months old), or shy dogs not yet ready for the larger space.
- Obstacle Course/Agility Equipment: Provides various "obstacles for the dogs to play on" and "obstacle course that dogs can do too," encouraging exercise and mental stimulation.
- Benches/Seating: Numerous benches and shaded seating areas are available for "pawrents" to relax while their dogs play. A picnic pavilion is also present within the larger park.

One notable piece of feedback from a customer review is the wish for a "water fountain for the pups." While the official Charles County Parks & Recreation website states that "Drinking water is available at White Plains only (not during winter months)," and implies Turkey Hill does not have it, some other sources mention "water fountains for hydration" at Turkey Hill. To be safe, Maryland visitors should consider bringing their own water for their dogs, especially during warmer months, as a primary water source within the dog park area itself might be limited or seasonal.
As a public dog park operated by Charles County Government, Turkey Hill Park does not offer commercial promotions or special discounts in the traditional retail sense. Its primary "offer" is providing a free, accessible, and well-maintained public space for the enjoyment of Maryland's dog owners and their pets. However, the Charles County Department of Recreation, Parks & Tourism may organize broader community events or initiatives that occasionally take place at or near Turkey Hill Park.
For example, the larger Turkey Hill Park complex also features athletic fields, picnic pavilions, and a disc golf course, which might be venues for community gatherings or recreational events. While these wouldn't be specific "promotions" for the dog park itself, they could enhance the overall experience of visiting the area. Maryland residents interested in any park-wide events, volunteer opportunities, or updates regarding the dog park's facilities are encouraged to check the official Charles County Department of Recreation, Parks & Tourism website or contact them directly. Local pet-related groups or community social media pages may also announce informal gatherings at the park.

Jan 23, 2025 · France AllisonJust look at my pups face! She had a blast here. The other dogs and their humans were friendly as well. I only wish they had a water fountain for the pups. But it is well maintained and has obstacles for the dogs to play on!
Apr 16, 2024 · christalle coxMy dog and I visit this park when we drive through Southern Maryland to get to work in DC. The dog park is the biggest I have ever seen. It has to be a few acres. It's also great if you have kids. There's a playground and trails.
Mar 21, 2024 · Glenn CollinsGreat dog park. I believe it’s the largest one in Charles county. Plenty of room to run and it even has a obstacle course for the dogs. It can get a little muddy so you may want to avoid this park after a Couple of rainy days. It has a separate area for the smaller dogs as well. Plenty of benches and trash cans so make sure to clean up after you dog. There is a lot of paved walkways outside of the fenced in dog park. Great place to walk your dog on the leash afterwards as well. I noticed a lot of soccer fields and a football field. I’m not sure how often they get used since none of them had nets on the goals. I did see a few people playing on the disc golf course. It’s a large fairly quiet area with plenty of place to walk alone or bring your dog.
Feb 21, 2023 · James Armel RealtorVery nice and well maintained dog park. My dog had fun playing around with the other dogs. There is plenty of space for your dog to run free. We will be back for sure. Just make sure to bring water for your dog…unfortunately there is no water available. Hopefully a dog fountain is added in the future.
