Welcome to Taylor Farm Dog Park

For dog owners across Connecticut, particularly those in Norwalk and the surrounding Fairfield County, finding a truly expansive and natural space for their canine companions to run, play, and explore off-leash is a cherished opportunity. The Taylor Farm Dog Park, located at 7 Calf Pasture Beach Rd, Norwalk, CT 06855, offers just such a unique environment. Unlike many urban dog parks that are fully fenced and limited in size, Taylor Farm provides over 4.5 acres of open, rolling grassy fields, making it feel more like a countryside retreat tucked within a coastal town. This distinctive setting makes it a popular destination for New York residents whose dogs thrive on freedom and vast open spaces for exercise and socialization.

The Taylor Farm Dog Park is not your average dog park; it's a testament to Norwalk's commitment to providing diverse recreational opportunities for its pet-owning community. Its unfenced nature means it’s particularly suited for dogs with reliable recall, offering an unparalleled sense of freedom for well-trained canines. The park's wide-open layout encourages energetic sprints, extended games of fetch, and joyful interactions among dogs of various breeds. Being part of the larger Calf Pasture Beach area, it allows for a comprehensive outdoor experience, where a dog's playtime can be seamlessly combined with a leisurely stroll for their human companions. For Connecticut locals, Taylor Farm Dog Park offers a refreshing alternative to more confined dog runs, fostering a vibrant community of responsible pet owners who prioritize their dogs' happiness and physical well-being in a natural setting.

Taylor Farm Dog Park is conveniently located at 7 Calf Pasture Beach Rd, Norwalk, CT 06855, USA. This address places it directly adjacent to the popular Calf Pasture Beach and across from Shady Beach Park, making it part of a larger coastal recreational hub in Norwalk.

Key aspects of its location and accessibility include:

  • Proximity to Calf Pasture Beach: This is a major highlight, as visitors can easily combine a dog park visit with other beach park amenities, though it's important to note that dogs are generally not allowed on Calf Pasture Beach itself during peak summer months.

  • Integrated within a Larger Park Area: Taylor Farm Park is a 30-acre open space, with about 4.5 acres specifically designated for the dog park. This provides a natural, spacious backdrop for off-leash activities.

  • Parking: There is a designated parking lot on the south side of the park. While parking at Taylor Farm is generally free year-round, access to the broader Calf Pasture Beach area may require a Norwalk Resident Beach Pass or a daily fee for non-residents during peak season (May to mid-October). Visitors should check current Norwalk city guidelines for beach access and parking passes.

  • Various Transportation Options: The park is accessible by car (with GPS guidance), and also potentially by local bus routes that serve the Calf Pasture Beach area, and even walking or biking for those in the immediate vicinity.

Its location near the scenic coastline offers a beautiful environment, making it an appealing destination for many Connecticut dog owners.

Taylor Farm Dog Park provides a distinct set of services, emphasizing an open and natural environment for canine activity:

  • Expansive Off-Leash Area: The primary service is offering a large, designated field of over 4.5 acres where dogs can roam and play off-leash, provided they are under voice command and supervision. This is ideal for high-energy dogs that need ample space to run.

  • Unfenced Environment: This feature, while requiring excellent dog recall, provides an unparalleled sense of freedom for dogs, allowing them to explore a more natural landscape without the visual and physical barriers of a fence.

  • Natural Divisions for Play: The land is split by a small copse of woods, essentially creating two large, open areas (north and south sides) for dogs to run. Some sources indicate these areas also serve as de facto separate spaces for small and large dogs, though this is not always explicitly marked with separate fencing.

  • Waste Disposal Stations: Trash cans and waste bag dispensers are available at the parking lot and generally within the park to encourage responsible waste cleanup, though users are advised to bring their own bags as well.

  • Tidal Pool (South Side): For water-loving dogs, the south side of the park features a tidal pool with a fountain to curb algae growth, offering a unique opportunity for pups to splash and cool off.

Taylor Farm Dog Park offers several unique features and highlights that set it apart for Connecticut dog owners:

  • Vast Open Space: At over 4.5 acres, it provides a considerably larger area for dogs to run compared to many traditional fenced dog parks. This is a significant highlight for breeds needing extensive exercise.

  • Natural Landscape: With grassy fields, shaded trees, and winding trails, the park offers a more natural, countryside-like experience, contrasting with more urban, gravel-based dog runs.

  • Proximity to Calf Pasture Beach: Being next to Calf Pasture Beach offers a fantastic extension to a day out, with amenities like a sandy shoreline, walking paths, and picnic areas (though specific dog access rules apply to the beach itself).

  • Leash-On-Hand Policy: Despite being unfenced, the park encourages responsible dog ownership with a "leash-on-hand" policy, indicating a community of owners who generally maintain control over their pets.

  • Tidal Pool with Fountain: The presence of a water feature for dogs, particularly on the south side, is a great amenity for dogs who love to swim or splash, especially during warmer months.

  • Community Atmosphere: Reviews often highlight the friendly nature of both people and dogs, creating a welcoming environment for newcomers and fostering a sense of community among regulars.

  • Home to Community Events: The larger Taylor Farm Park sometimes hosts local events like antique car shows and hot-air balloon festivals, adding to the vibrancy of the area and offering additional entertainment.

As a public park operated by the City of Norwalk, Taylor Farm Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Access to the dog park itself is generally free for all visitors and their dogs, provided they adhere to the city's rules and regulations for park usage.

However, the "promotions" for such a facility lie in the invaluable benefits it provides to the community:

  • Free Public Access to Expansive Space: The most significant "offer" is the complimentary access to a large, natural, and dedicated off-leash dog area. This provides a cost-effective and essential resource for Connecticut pet owners.

  • Year-Round Accessibility: The park is generally open from 7 AM to 8 PM daily, offering extensive hours for visits throughout the year, accommodating various schedules for dog owners.

  • Integration with Broader Recreational Hub: While not a direct "promotion," the park's location within the Calf Pasture Beach area means visitors gain access to a multitude of other recreational opportunities (e.g., walking trails, views of the Long Island Sound) without additional cost for park entry (though seasonal beach parking fees may apply).

Any "special offers" would typically come in the form of community-organized events, such as dog meetups, adoption events, or agility demos, which would be advertised through local Norwalk community channels or pet-focused groups rather than formal commercial promotions.

For specific inquiries related to the Taylor Farm Dog Park, including its rules, any special events, or questions about parking permits (especially for Calf Pasture Beach), residents should contact the City of Norwalk's Parks and Recreation Department.

  • Address: 7 Calf Pasture Beach Rd, Norwalk, CT 06855, USA (Physical location of the dog park)

  • Phone: (203) 854-7806 (Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department, which oversees the park).

It is highly recommended for prospective visitors, especially non-residents or those planning a visit during peak beach season, to check the official Norwalk City website or contact the Parks and Recreation Department to confirm current parking regulations and any specific rules or updates regarding the dog park.

For dog owners in Norwalk and throughout Connecticut, Taylor Farm Dog Park offers an exceptionally suitable and highly valued local resource, particularly for those with well-socialized dogs that possess reliable recall. Its expansive, unfenced 4.5 acres provide an unparalleled sense of freedom, allowing dogs to run and play in a much more natural setting than many confined dog runs. While the unfenced nature and proximity to roads require vigilant supervision and good voice control, this also fosters a community of highly responsible dog owners. The presence of a tidal pool is a unique highlight for water-loving pups, and the park's integration within the larger Calf Pasture Beach recreational area allows for a full day of outdoor enjoyment. For Connecticut residents seeking a spacious, natural, and community-oriented environment where their dogs can truly stretch their legs and socialize, Taylor Farm Dog Park stands out as a premier destination for off-leash fun and canine camaraderie.

I wish it was a fully enclosed dog park, and that the trail paths were longer. I love/hate that it’s an off leash park. Also, there’s no enrichment activities or dog park playground. This park is also quite small.

Beautiful dog park!🐕🏞️ I would love to take my dog again but I was given a $150 parking ticket for not being a Norwalk resident. 😳

A great place, more often than not great people and dogs. I was under the impression the better part of a year ago they were supposed to fence in some of it which would make it all that much better

Wide open grass fields with room for frisbie. Make sure the car you go there in has owner plates registered in Norwalk - not just passengers who live in town.
