It's really large and there are two areas one side for the big dogs and the other side for small dogs or maybe even older dogs that are not really active. Then just across the parking lot is a really nice playground. The building next to it looks like a bathroom but I didn't walk all the way over there so I'm not sure.

Welcome to Tanglewood Dog Park

Tanglewood Dog Park offers a much-needed outlet for dogs to burn off energy, socialize with their peers, and simply enjoy the freedom of being off-leash. It addresses the common challenge faced by urban and suburban pet owners: providing adequate space for their dogs to exercise in a secure environment. What makes Tanglewood Dog Park particularly appealing is its thoughtful layout, aiming to cater to dogs of all sizes and energy levels. While the excitement of off-leash play is undeniable, the park also encourages responsible pet ownership, fostering a community of vigilant and considerate dog lovers. It's a vital local resource that contributes significantly to the well-being of dogs and their human companions in the Clemmons area.
Tanglewood Dog Park is strategically located within the much larger and beloved Tanglewood Park, a premier recreational destination in Clemmons, North Carolina. You can find the dog park at 291 Northtrail Rd, Clemmons, NC 27012, USA. This address places it conveniently within Forsyth County, making it easily accessible for residents of Clemmons, Winston-Salem, Bermuda Run, and other surrounding communities.
Accessibility to Tanglewood Dog Park is generally excellent. As part of a major county park, it benefits from well-maintained roads and ample parking facilities. While the specific dog park area has its own designated parking, you'll find the general Tanglewood Park grounds are well-signposted, guiding visitors to various amenities, including the dog park. Reviews highlight that it’s just across a parking lot from a nice playground, which can be a bonus for families with both human and canine children. The park's location within a larger recreational complex also means that visitors can easily combine a trip to the dog park with other activities available at Tanglewood, such as walking trails, playgrounds, or even a visit to the adjacent Tanglewood Park facilities. This ease of access and the availability of plentiful parking ensure a convenient and stress-free visit for all.
Tanglewood Dog Park, as a public facility, primarily offers a secure and dedicated space for off-leash dog play. While it doesn't provide staffed services like training or grooming, it is equipped with key amenities that facilitate a positive and convenient experience for dogs and their owners. Based on public information and user reviews, the following "services" are effectively provided through its infrastructure:
-
Two Separate Fenced Areas: A standout feature is the division of the park into two distinct, fully fenced sections. One area is specifically designated for large dogs, providing ample room for them to run and play vigorously. The other is tailored for small dogs or potentially older, less active canines, ensuring a safer and less overwhelming environment for them.
-
Off-Leash Play: The core offering is a safe environment where dogs can be unleashed to run, chase, and socialize freely, promoting natural canine behavior and physical exercise.
-
Water Fountains: For the convenience and hydration of both dogs and their human companions, the park provides water fountains. It is still a good idea to bring your own water bowl, especially on hot days, to ensure your dog has immediate access to water.
-
Benches: Throughout the park, benches are available, offering comfortable seating for owners to relax and supervise their dogs during playtime.
-
Waste Bins: To maintain cleanliness and encourage responsible pet ownership, waste bins are strategically placed throughout the park for easy disposal of dog waste.
-
General Cleanliness and Maintenance: Reviews frequently mention that the park is "generally clean and well-maintained," indicating that the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department regularly tends to the grounds.
-
Hours of Operation: The park is open daily from 7 AM until sunset, providing a wide window for locals to bring their dogs at their convenience. (Note: While some reviews mention 8 PM, official Forsyth County Parks & Recreation information states "until sunset," so it's best to plan accordingly). Visitors should also be aware of the "Dog Park Rules and Regulations" which require dogs to have collars with ID, dog license, and rabies vaccination displayed at all times, and that all dogs must be leashed until safely inside the fenced area.
Tanglewood Dog Park is celebrated by local dog owners for several key features that make it a premier destination for canine recreation in Clemmons.
-
Generous Size: The park is described as "really large" and "spacious," providing ample room for dogs to run, sprint, and play without feeling confined. This is a significant advantage over smaller, more crowded dog parks.
-
Separated Play Areas: A critical highlight is the division into two distinct, fenced sections: one for large dogs and another for small or less active dogs. This thoughtful separation greatly enhances safety and comfort for all dogs, preventing potential conflicts between different play styles and sizes. It ensures that smaller, more timid dogs can enjoy their time without being overwhelmed, while larger, more boisterous dogs have the space to romp freely.
-
Convenient Amenities: The presence of water fountains helps keep dogs hydrated during vigorous play, and strategically placed benches offer comfortable resting spots for owners. Waste bins are readily available, promoting a clean and responsible environment for all users.
-
Well-Maintained Grounds: User reviews consistently praise the park for being "well-maintained" and "generally clean." This indicates a commitment to keeping the space pleasant and safe for both pets and their owners.
-
Proximity to Other Park Facilities: Located within the larger Tanglewood Park, the dog park benefits from being close to other attractions. There's a "really nice playground" just across the parking lot, making it an ideal outing for families with children. The broader park also offers walking trails, restrooms, and other recreational opportunities, allowing for a multifaceted visit.
-
Dedicated Public Space: As a public park, it provides a free and accessible option for dog owners, making regular exercise and socialization more feasible for a wider range of the community.
-
Community Atmosphere (with caveats): While some cautions about owner intervention exist, the park naturally draws local dog lovers, creating opportunities for community interaction and for dogs to socialize and learn appropriate play behavior.
As a public facility managed by Forsyth County Parks and Recreation, Tanglewood Dog Park typically does not offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business might. Access to the park is generally free of charge for the public, reflecting its role as a community amenity.
However, from the perspective of a local user, the "special offers" are inherent in the value and accessibility provided by the park:
-
Free Access: The most significant "offer" is the completely free entry to a large, well-maintained, and fenced off-leash area. This provides an invaluable service for dog owners looking to exercise their pets without incurring costs associated with private dog parks or dog daycare.
-
Valuable Amenities Provided: The availability of water fountains, benches, and waste bins are all "free" amenities that enhance the user experience and ensure convenience, saving owners from needing to carry bulky supplies.
-
Community Events (Potential): While not a standing promotion, public parks occasionally host or facilitate dog-related community events such as adoption days, rabies clinics, or pet-friendly festivals. Locals should check the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation website or local community calendars for any announcements, as these events offer added value to park users.
The core value of Tanglewood Dog Park lies in its consistent provision of a safe, clean, and spacious environment for canine recreation, which in itself is a significant benefit to the community without requiring specific promotional campaigns. Its inherent value as a free, public resource is its ongoing "special offer" to the residents of Clemmons and beyond.
For specific questions regarding Tanglewood Dog Park, or any part of Tanglewood Park, it is best to direct inquiries to the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department, as they oversee its operation and maintenance.

For residents of Clemmons, Winston-Salem, and surrounding areas in North Carolina, Tanglewood Dog Park stands out as an exceptionally suitable and valuable local amenity for dog owners. Its blend of thoughtful design, essential features, and public accessibility makes it a cornerstone for canine well-being and community engagement.
One of the most compelling reasons for its suitability is the sheer size and the separation of play areas. Dogs, irrespective of their breed or size, require ample space to run, sprint, and engage in vigorous play. Tanglewood's large, fenced environment caters to this need, allowing dogs to truly stretch their legs and burn off excess energy safely. The dedicated sections for large and small dogs are a critical design choice, fostering a much safer and more comfortable environment for all. Owners of smaller or more timid dogs can relax knowing their pets are playing with similarly sized companions, while larger dogs have the freedom to play without inadvertently overwhelming smaller friends. This thoughtful separation significantly reduces the risk of undesirable interactions and creates a more harmonious play space for the diverse canine population of North Carolina.
Furthermore, the convenience and upkeep of the park's facilities directly benefit local users. The presence of water fountains is a practical necessity, especially during North Carolina's warmer months, ensuring dogs stay hydrated. Benches offer a comfortable spot for owners to supervise and socialize, turning a chore into a pleasant outing. The consistent cleanliness, as noted in reviews, reflects well on the maintenance efforts by Forsyth County Parks and Recreation and encourages responsible pet ownership among the community. Knowing that the park is well-maintained and that waste bins are readily available helps foster a clean and respectful environment that everyone can enjoy.
Lastly, Tanglewood Dog Park’s location within the larger Tanglewood Park complex adds significant value. It means a trip to the dog park can easily be part of a broader family outing, where children can enjoy playgrounds nearby, or individuals can explore walking trails. This integration into a major recreational hub makes it a truly versatile destination for the whole family, promoting outdoor activity for everyone, not just our four-legged companions. While awareness of shared responsibilities among dog owners is always key in any public dog park, the overall infrastructure and benefits offered at Tanglewood Dog Park make it an indispensable resource for fostering happy, healthy, and well-socialized dogs right here in the heart of North Carolina.

May 15, 2025 · Regenia HolmesA Great Place for Dogs, with a Few Cautions Tanglewood Dog Park offers a fantastic space for dogs to run, play, and socialize. The park is well-maintained and spacious, with separate areas for small and large dogs. However, there are a couple of things to be aware of before you visit: Some dogs may be off-leash before entering the park: While the park itself is fenced in, it's possible to see dogs running around without leashes before they enter the designated dog park area. This can be concerning, especially if you have a smaller or timid dog. It's a good idea to keep your dog on a leash until you're inside the fenced-in dog park. Not all owners may know how to intervene in canine scuffles: Unfortunately, dog fights can happen, and not all dog owners may know how to safely intervene. If you witness a scuffle between dogs, it's important to remain calm and try to separate the dogs without putting yourself in danger. If the situation is serious, don't hesitate to call for help. Despite these minor drawbacks, Tanglewood Dog Park is still a great place for dogs to get some exercise and have fun. Just be mindful of these potential issues and take the necessary precautions to ensure your dog's safety. Here are some additional points to consider: * The park is located in Clemmons, NC, and is open from 7 AM to 8 PM daily. * The park offers water fountains, benches, and waste bins for convenience. * The park is generally clean and well-maintained. * The park can get busy on weekends and evenings. Overall, Tanglewood Dog Park is a good option for dog owners who are looking for a large, fenced-in space for their dogs to play. Just be aware of the potential for off-leash dogs and dog fights, and take the necessary precautions to keep your dog safe. Here are some additional tips for visiting Tanglewood Dog Park: * Bring your own water bowl for your dog. * Clean up after your dog. * Supervise your dog at all times.
Nov 21, 2024 · Aubrey WeberWhy does the place have 5 stars? There Is one lonely tree in the center of the small dog enclosure and none of the benches are located near it. So the dogs and the people are staked out in the sun. The water fountain is not ergonomically designed for ease of people use or dog use. The water is tepid not cool at all and must be run for quite some time before you can get even tepid water. I guess the five star rating is in comparison to the other dog parks that are in the area considering they are also all poorly designed and poorly equipped. If you want a good dog park you got to go to Myrtle Beach! Now that's a dog park! The designers of these local dog parks can learn quite a bit from the designers of that park. A park should be people and pet friendly not just offer a space where a dog can run around and tinkle on the grass.
Jul 01, 2024 · an halClassiest dog park in town. It looks like a literal dog show every time I go there and my dog consistently wins worst behaved for occasionally barking.
Mar 12, 2025 · Kathryn IlerMy 24lb dog has a great time when I hit the attentive crowd on the small dog side! People are friendly then, and they deal with their dog's behavior if it gets out of line.
