This is a beautiful park. It seems very well maintained. We've been a number of times in the past two months since moving from Arizona. Where we had a yard and space for them to run around outside. We have 2 dogs, small ones. About 25 pounds and a 10 pound dog. We do keep them in the small dog area only because they haven't familiarized themselves with the larger dog yet. will slowly move them in there. I have not experienced an owner, not cleaning up after their dog, nor have I experienced aggressive dogs or rude owners like mentioned in previous posts. We have been several times in the past two months, and we plan to continue going back

Welcome to Sun Prairie Dog Park
For dog owners throughout Wisconsin, especially those in the growing community of Sun Prairie, finding a reliable and enjoyable space for their canine companions to run, play, and socialize is a top priority. The Sun Prairie Dog Park, officially known as the Sun Prairie Pet Exercise Area, offers just that: a beautiful, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed off-leash environment that has quickly become a beloved destination for local pups and their human counterparts.
This expansive park stands out for its commitment to providing a safe, clean, and welcoming atmosphere. Unlike some urban alternatives, Sun Prairie Dog Park strikes a balance between providing ample space for vigorous exercise and offering amenities that ensure comfort and convenience for both dogs and owners. Visitors consistently praise its upkeep and the positive experiences they’ve had, making it a standout option for Wisconsin residents who value quality outdoor time with their furry family members.
Many locals have found it to be an excellent solution for their dogs' exercise needs, especially those who may not have large yards at home. As one review states, "This is a beautiful park. It seems very well maintained. We've been a number of times in the past two months since moving from Arizona. Where we had a yard and space for them to run around outside." This sentiment highlights its value to the community, offering essential space for dogs to thrive and remain active regardless of living situation.
Sun Prairie Dog Park is conveniently located at 1025 S Bird St, Sun Prairie, WI 53590, USA. This address places it within easy reach for residents of Sun Prairie and surrounding communities in Dane County, Wisconsin. Its position ensures that it’s a quick and practical destination for daily visits or longer play sessions.
The park spans an impressive 11 acres, providing plenty of room for dogs to explore and engage in off-leash activities. Accessibility is enhanced by a dedicated parking lot with space for approximately 32 cars, making it easy for visitors to arrive and find a spot. The park's operational hours generally extend from dawn until dusk year-round, offering flexibility for dog owners with varied schedules.
As a municipal park, usage requires both a valid municipal dog license and a Dane County Parks dog permit. The Sun Prairie Pet Exercise Area is part of the Cooperative Dog Park Program, meaning a permit purchased through the City of Sun Prairie or Dane County Parks is often valid for other cooperative dog parks in Dane County, including those in Madison and Middleton. Permits can typically be purchased online, by phone, or in person at the City Clerk's Office. This streamlined permit system makes it convenient for Wisconsin residents to gain access to a network of quality dog parks.

As a public facility managed by the City of Sun Prairie, the "promotions" for Sun Prairie Dog Park primarily revolve around its accessible permit system and the broader benefits of the Cooperative Dog Park Program in Wisconsin.
The most significant "offer" is the annual dog park permit. While a daily permit is available, purchasing an annual permit ($43 for the first dog, $20 for additional dogs, and discounted rates for seniors, disabled individuals, and military/veterans) provides significant savings for frequent visitors. This annual permit is not just for Sun Prairie Dog Park; it's valid for use in all Dane County dog parks, including those in Madison and Middleton. This inter-municipal agreement provides exceptional value for Wisconsin residents, allowing access to a wider network of quality off-leash facilities.
Additionally, the City of Sun Prairie and local advocacy groups may occasionally host community events or clean-up days at the park, fostering a sense of community and ensuring the park remains a top-notch facility. While not a direct discount, active community engagement helps maintain the park's high standards, which directly benefits all users. For the most current fee structure and information on how to obtain permits, local residents are encouraged to visit the official City of Sun Prairie website or contact the City Clerk's Office.

Oct 08, 2024 · Regina GonzalesMiss Stella LOVES the Sun Prairie dog park, and so do I! It's not too far from home, great big open space with a nice gravel path, water for the dogs, shaded sitting area for the peoples and pups, and benches throughout.
Sep 05, 2024 · Laura PalmgrenIt's our home park. Not the biggest, but plenty of room to run and chase. In general, the people I have met there over the years are great. The downsides - The drainage is not great. I will not go here if it rained recently. I realize mud is a part of owning a dog. This park is set up on an old landfill, which is fine, it's a good way to repurpose the land. Sycamore Park is Madison is also on a landfill. This is probably common knowledge to most who go to these parks. I don't know the reason, but the top soil at the sun prairie park stays wet for days. There are swampy places that could be solved by doing some minor regrading. The lower wooded section in the back usually has standing water. Dog poop. I don't know what people's problem is, but there is a lot of dog crap everywhere. Bags and trash cans are available. Pick up you shit folks. Which bring we back to the standing water. It's probably 50% crap water. At some point, your dog will wind up covered in shit because someone else is lazy. It gets pretty bad in winter. It would almost be forgivable if we had a lot of snow accumulation this year, but that has not been the case. Getting a baggy, taking of your mitten and picking up crap is too much to ask, don't go to dog parks. These are probably the same people that leave their dog crap ON the sidewalks and bike paths. Your mileage may vary. Token Creek dog park is not far away and the turds per acre is far far lower, and there are no swampy areas.
Jan 14, 2025 · Tyler RobbinsEnjoyable dog park with separate dog area for smaller dogs. Most of the gravel path within the park is in an open field, and part of the path goes through a bit of woods. There is a shelter and tables on top of the hill that are enjoyable to sit at while you watch your doggo(s) play!
Sep 01, 2023 · Stephanie SI love this dog park. It is huge, has a trail in the back with a small woods, enough for the dogs to smell critters! It has a smaller fenced in area for the small dogs, and this actually is not that small. It's a great dog park. Alie and I love it there.
