Pros: Has separate large and dog sections. In a nice neighborhood. Near a small pond. Cons. Absolutely tiny. Zero other dogs. I ended up just walking around the big open field by the school. Better off going to Johnson Dog run if your dog is good off leash, or Quarry Park if you need a large fenced in area.

Welcome to Sturtevant Dog Park

For dog owners across Wisconsin, finding the right space for our furry friends to socialize and play off-leash is a key part of responsible pet ownership and canine well-being. The Sturtevant Dog Park, located in the heart of Kenosha County, offers a dedicated space for this very purpose. As part of the wider Kenosha County Parks system, it provides a structured environment where dogs can exercise and interact, catering to the needs of local residents. While every dog park has its unique characteristics, Sturtevant Dog Park aims to provide a convenient and accessible option for daily exercise.

Sturtevant Dog Park is situated at 8500 Broadway Dr, Sturtevant, WI 53177, USA. This location places it conveniently within the Village of Sturtevant, making it easily accessible for residents of Sturtevant, Racine, Pleasant Prairie, and other surrounding communities in Southeastern Wisconsin. Its position in a "nice neighborhood," as noted by a local reviewer, contributes to a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for visitors.

Accessibility is a notable feature of Sturtevant Dog Park. Ample parking is typically available, making it straightforward for dog owners to arrive and depart without hassle. The park operates daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, providing generous hours that accommodate a variety of schedules, from early morning walks to evening play sessions. As with all Kenosha County dog parks, a valid annual dog park tag or a daily fee is required for entry. This system helps ensure the park's upkeep and that users are registered, contributing to a safer and more managed environment. While some local users might prefer larger spaces like Quarry Park or Johnson Dog Run for more extensive off-leash areas, Sturtevant Dog Park offers a practical and contained option for routine visits.

Sturtevant Dog Park, managed by Kenosha County Parks, provides essential services designed to facilitate a safe and clean off-leash environment for dogs and their owners. While it may be described as "tiny" by some, its core offerings aim to meet the fundamental needs of a community dog park.

Services Offered:

  • Separate Dog Sections: The park features distinct, fenced-in areas for both large dogs and small dogs. This separation is a crucial service, helping to ensure that dogs of different sizes and energy levels can play safely and comfortably without overwhelming each other. This feature is consistently highlighted by visitors, who appreciate the ability to place their dog in an appropriate play zone.
  • Waste Disposal: Waste bag dispensers and trash receptacles are available throughout the park, promoting responsible pet waste cleanup and helping maintain a hygienic environment. This service is standard across well-managed dog parks and relies on user cooperation.
  • Fencing: The park is fully fenced, providing a secure boundary for off-leash play. This ensures dogs remain within the designated area, giving owners peace of mind.
  • Water Access: While specific details on water fountains are not always explicit, most established dog parks provide some form of water access, especially during warmer months, for hydration. It is always wise for owners to bring their own water for their dog as a backup.
  • Basic Seating: Visitors can expect basic seating options, such as benches, allowing owners a place to rest and supervise their dogs.

The features and highlights of Sturtevant Dog Park contribute to its utility as a local dog recreation spot. While some external reviews mention its smaller size compared to other options in the wider region, its design principles cater to specific needs within the community.

Features / Highlights:

  • Dedicated Large and Small Dog Areas: This separation is a key highlight, providing a controlled environment for dogs based on their size and potential play style. This is a significant safety feature, especially for owners of smaller or more timid dogs.
  • Neighborhood Setting: Located in a "nice neighborhood," the park benefits from a quiet and pleasant surrounding, making for a generally calm atmosphere during visits.
  • Proximity to a Pond: The park's location near a small pond can offer a scenic backdrop and potentially a source of interest, though direct access for dogs is not typically part of the off-leash area.
  • Grass and Wood Chip Surfaces: The park includes both grassed areas and sections with wood chips. While the wood chips have received mixed feedback from users (some finding them unclean or problematic for paws), the presence of varied surfaces can offer different textures for dogs to explore. The "grass area in the back is a better area for the dogs to play," as highlighted by a reviewer, suggests favored zones within the park.
  • Fenced Security: The fully fenced perimeter offers a secure space for off-leash play, preventing dogs from wandering off and providing a clear boundary for owners.

As part of the Kenosha County Parks system, Sturtevant Dog Park operates under a structured fee system rather than offering traditional commercial "promotions" or "special offers." These fees are essential for the maintenance, upkeep, and overall quality of the dog park facilities across the county. The "offers" provided are in the form of flexible permit options designed to suit various levels of usage.

Promotions or Special Offers:

  • Annual Dog Park Tags: The most common and cost-effective option for regular users. An annual tag provides unlimited access to all three Kenosha County off-leash dog parks: Carlisle Family Dog Park, Harris Family Dog Park, and Sturtevant Dog Park.
  • Tiered Pricing for Residents and Non-Residents:
    • Kenosha County Residents: $20 for the first dog, with additional dogs (up to three) costing $5 each.
    • Non-County Residents: $25 for the first dog, with additional dogs (up to three) costing $5 each.
This tiered structure provides a direct benefit to local residents.
  • Discounted Tags for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities:
    • Kenosha County Resident Seniors (60+ yrs) and Individuals with Disabilities: $10 for the first dog.
    • Non-County Resident Seniors (60+ yrs) and Individuals with Disabilities: $15 for the first dog.
These reduced rates make the park more accessible to specific community groups.
  • Daily Fees: For infrequent visitors or those just passing through Wisconsin, daily permits are available.
    • Kenosha County Residents: $3.00 per day.
    • Non-County Residents: $6.00 per day.
Daily fee envelopes and collection boxes are conveniently located at the entrance of each dog park, allowing for easy payment on site.

These fee structures ensure the long-term sustainability of the parks while offering flexibility and value to the diverse community of dog owners in Wisconsin.

Sturtevant Dog Park offers a practical and accessible option for dog owners in Wisconsin, particularly those in the Sturtevant and greater Kenosha County area. While some larger, more expansive dog parks exist in the region, Sturtevant Dog Park fills a vital role for daily exercise and socialization within a controlled environment. Its separate areas for large and small dogs are a significant advantage, providing a safer space for all canines, which is a key priority for responsible owners. The presence of these separated sections, noted by reviewers, confirms its suitability for different dog temperaments and sizes.

For locals, the convenience of its neighborhood location, easy parking, and extended operating hours make it a simple choice for incorporating regular off-leash play into their routine. While feedback regarding its size and surface material suggests it might not be the ideal destination for every single dog or owner every time, it remains a valuable community amenity. The fee system, which contributes directly to park maintenance, ensures a certain standard of upkeep and safety. For Wisconsin residents seeking a straightforward, secure, and locally convenient dog park for their daily outings, especially those with small dogs or those preferring a more contained environment, Sturtevant Dog Park is a suitable and functional choice.

Conveniently close to home. Large hole under gate in Large Dog area. My dog got out of the Large dog area, even though he's 47 pounds. Had to go to small dog area just so he can run around safely.
