What a cool place. We wanted to take a walk and figured what better than a dog park even though we didn't have a dog. It was nice to see such a large place to let you dig run free. We took a little trail back to the car and it was a very nice walk on a nice day. I would totally come back here with or without my dog.

These could include organized dog walks, pet adoption events, or educational workshops on dog behavior or health, sometimes held within Shawnee Mission Park or other JCPRD facilities. 44 acres is not as much as it sounds, once you are there in it, but it was a pretty nice area with trails near the water for your water loving dog. You can also stay on the sidewalk all the way to the beach and multiple other trails to take through the somewhat wooded area. Our dog loved it all! The beach at the water's edge is brick-like, which was a little odd, but the dog didn't seem to mind at all.

For the love of god, please plant a tree or add some kind of sun-blocking objects on the walkway to the beach! The LONG walk from the parking lot to the actual beach was brutal in the June humidity and heat. Not having any kind of shade made it so much worse. The beach is cool once you actually get there. I will be better prepared next time. Things I will bring - • SUNSCREEN • Hat • Some kind of lightweight beach umbrella or beach tent • River shoes — the pavement walking into the lake is slick with algae and has rocks everywhere.

My dog's leash was stolen when I left it near the gate.😢 It is a nice park . your dogs will love it. In summer, would be too hot for your dog and you even your dog swims. Because it is too far to get the lake (17-20min ) and get back to the gate. so you need to worry to have a heatstroke.

Easily one of my favorite dog parks in the greater Kansas City area: Shawnee Mission Dog Park! This dog park is free to enter, has a large lake for the animals to swim in, handicap accessible bathrooms for all genders, handicap accessible & paved paths, along with several trails throughout the fenced in park. There are even spots to give your animals water and pick up/throw away their waste. You can choose to keep your dog on the leash or let them off of the leash to explore the park! We enjoy walking along the edge of the fence and through the trails while we are at this dog park. I have never had any major troubles with other dogs at this park either. If you are looking for a free and fun spot for your pup to play in the greater Kansas City area, check out Shawnee Mission Dog Park!
