Decent sized park. Mulched at some point. It was mostly mud on our visit. Water (seasonal), trash, bags only at the entrance. Not many bags -- and ALOT of poop left lying around (I picked up 4 piles and saw at least 6 others). Separate sections for large and small dogs, but the rules appear to be ignored, since there were large dogs on the small dog side.

## Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For dog owners residing in Vernon, CT, and indeed across the wider Connecticut region, Saxony Dog Park presents itself as a suitable and convenient local amenity for their beloved canine companions. Despite some of the typical challenges faced by public dog parks, its fundamental offerings align well with the needs of local pet parents seeking a dedicated space for their dogs.

Primarily, the park's decent size and full fencing are crucial advantages. This provides a secure environment where dogs can engage in vital off-leash exercise and social interaction, which is essential for their physical and mental well-being. For many locals, having a nearby, contained area to let their dogs run freely is a significant benefit, reducing the need to travel long distances.

The intentional division into separate sections for large and small dogs is a thoughtful design feature, even if adherence to these rules can sometimes vary. This segregation, when followed, offers a safer play environment, particularly for smaller or more timid dogs who might otherwise feel overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous playmates. This consideration for different canine needs makes the park more inclusive.

Furthermore, the park's location, described as "tucked away from the busy road," contributes to a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere. This peaceful setting allows both dogs and their owners to enjoy their time without the distractions and noise of heavy traffic, making it a more pleasant experience overall. The presence of seasonal water, trash receptacles, and dog waste bags, though sometimes inconsistent, shows an effort to provide essential conveniences for visitors.

Ultimately, Saxony Dog Park offers a valuable community service. It provides a consistent space for dogs to play, for owners to connect, and for the entire family to enjoy the outdoors. Despite minor drawbacks sometimes associated with public facilities, the park remains a solid option for Connecticut locals seeking a accessible and dedicated off-leash area for their four-legged friends, fostering a sense of community among dog enthusiasts in Vernon.

Always a great place to bring my pup! The people who come here are always super nice and follow the rules of the dog park. There's great space for my pup to run around and toys for him to play with. It's also in a great location tucked away from the busy road.

Pretty small, with not much room for the dogs to really run full out. Didn’t seem as though dog parents were paying quite as close attention to their dogs as I’m used to at other dog parks. Probably won’t be back when there’s a really nice one just 10 mins away.

Prefer grass dog parks, but this is closest to my house so it works in a pinch. Separate big and small dog sides. There are some holes under the fence which of course my dog found and can fit under, but I did my best to love a board to block it.

It is dry due to lots of wood mulch. Lots of balls. Water faucet if it is warm. Nice place to meet people. Centrally located.
