My favorite dog park. They have three parks the third is my favorite because it's more for horses really. It's in the back of the park and no one is ever there. My dog is super reactive now because when he was a year old he got attacked by a dog at the bark park that wasn't trained at all, his owner did nothing to stop it, I had to physically protect my dog and fight this dog off. So he is understandably NOT comfortable with other dogs. So I take him back to the empty park in the back so he can flat out run. He loves it! I love it!

Location and Accessibility

Rocky Fork Dog Park is strategically located within the larger Rocky Fork Metro Park at 7180 E. Walnut St., Westerville, OH 43081, USA, despite the provided address only listing "Walnut St." This specific location places it within a vast 1,096-acre Metro Park, making it readily accessible for residents across Westerville, New Albany, and other surrounding Central Ohio communities. Its integration into a major Metro Park ensures it benefits from established infrastructure and maintenance.

The park offers ample parking, which is a significant convenience for visitors arriving with their dogs and gear. Being part of the Metro Parks system, Rocky Fork is designed with public access in mind, providing clear signage and well-maintained pathways leading to the dog park areas. The extensive nature of Rocky Fork Metro Park itself means that visitors can easily combine a trip to the dog park with other activities, such as exploring the miles of walking trails or enjoying a picnic in one of the many open fields. This comprehensive accessibility makes it a versatile destination for dog owners throughout Ohio.

Services Offered

  • Multiple Fenced Dog Park Areas: Rocky Fork Dog Park is well-equipped with at least two, and reportedly up to three, distinct fenced areas. These typically include separate sections for large dogs and small dogs, ensuring that pups of different sizes and temperaments can play safely and comfortably. The existence of a third, less-frequented area provides an excellent option for dogs who prefer more space or have reactivity concerns, allowing for extensive, uninhibited running.
  • Dog Splash Pads: A highly popular feature, both the large and small dog park sections are equipped with dog splash pads. These are concrete areas embedded with small fountains where dogs can drink and play, offering a refreshing way for pups to cool down during warmer weather and adding a fun, "water park" feel to their visit.
  • Off-Leash Dog Trail: Beyond the fenced enclosures, Rocky Fork Metro Park uniquely offers a dedicated off-leash trail for dogs. This provides an excellent opportunity for dogs to explore a more natural environment off-leash, allowing for varied exercise and mental stimulation beyond a traditional open field.
  • Public Restrooms: For the comfort and convenience of human visitors, clean public restrooms are available within Rocky Fork Metro Park, typically close to the dog park area. This is a significant amenity for longer visits.
  • Shade and Seating: The dog park areas provide ample shade, either from natural trees or covered shelters. There are also benches and covered seating areas, allowing human companions to relax comfortably while supervising their dogs, regardless of the weather.
  • Waste Bag Stations and Trash Cans: To promote cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, the park is typically well-stocked with dog waste bags and conveniently placed trash cans, encouraging visitors to pick up after their pets and maintain a tidy environment.

Features / Highlights

  • Diverse Play Options: The standout highlight is the variety of play environments. With separate fenced areas, a unique splash pad, and an off-leash trail, Rocky Fork Dog Park caters to a wide range of canine preferences and energy levels, ensuring every dog can find their ideal way to play.
  • Generous Open Spaces: Even within the fenced areas, there's a substantial amount of grassy space for dogs to run and play freely, preventing overcrowding and allowing for vigorous exercise. The 1.8-acre fenced dog park is part of a much larger Metro Park.
  • Cleanliness and Maintenance: Reviews consistently praise the park for being very tidy, clean, and well-maintained. This reflects the commitment of the Metro Parks system to providing a high-quality experience for visitors.
  • Water Feature Appeal: The dog splash pads are a major draw, especially on warm days. They offer a safe and contained way for dogs to cool off and enjoy water play without needing a full body of water like a lake.
  • Integration with Metro Park Amenities: Being part of Rocky Fork Metro Park means visitors have access to extensive walking trails (over three miles), bridle trails, picnic areas, and opportunities for wildlife viewing, making it a destination for the whole family.
  • Positive Community Vibe: The presence of "good people" and responsible owners, as noted in reviews, contributes to a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, fostering positive interactions among both dogs and their human companions.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public Metro Park managed by Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, Rocky Fork Dog Park does not offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. However, its greatest ongoing "offer" to the community is the free-of-charge provision of an exceptional, diverse, and well-maintained environment for dogs to enjoy off-leash play and trail exploration. The continuous availability of unique amenities like splash pads, multiple fenced areas, and an off-leash trail, along with clean restrooms and waste bags, represents a significant and continuous value to local dog owners without any direct fees.

The Metro Parks system frequently hosts dog-centric events and programs across its parks, including Rocky Fork. These events, while not "promotions" in a commercial sense, serve as fantastic "special opportunities" for the dog-loving community. They can include guided hikes with dogs, educational programs on responsible pet ownership, or even seasonal gatherings. We highly recommend checking the official Metro Parks website (metroparks.net) for their events calendar and social media channels for announcements regarding upcoming dog-friendly activities at Rocky Fork or other Metro Parks, ensuring you don't miss out on these valuable community offerings.

I really wish the off leash dog area was larger, but it's still kinda fun. WAY too many people and dogs for me today at 900 in the morning...but always a nice park.
