We had a great first visit to Phoenix Dog Park. It took me a second to figure out how to get in... The entrance is along the very tall fence on the long side of the dog park. The grass was plentiful. The grounds were well-maintained. Dog owners were respectful, tidy, and polite. The fence between the small and large dogs is short (3' chain link), so it might be an issue if you have a fence jumper. There is a hose, wading pools, dog bowls, 5 gallon bucket... plenty of water. There are poop bags and garbage bins along the perimeter of park. There are shade structures which are very welcomed on warm days. The western side of the park automatically ends up in the shade in the afternoon, thanks to trees behind the fence line. There isn't any basic agility equipment or tables like at some dog parks. Lots of people bring their dogs and Chuck-Its to just play fetch, and none of the dogs there were toy aggressive or anything. Oh, and I like the cool message board sign in the front! All in all, it was a great experience and I'm looking forward to future visits.

Phoenix Large Dog Park is designed with a keen understanding of what makes a dog park truly functional and enjoyable. While not a commercial establishment offering paid "services," it provides numerous valuable amenities that significantly enhance the user experience, acting as de-facto services for the community:
-
Expansive Off-Leash Area: True to its name, the park offers a generous amount of space for large dogs to run, play, and socialize freely off-leash. This vastness is crucial for the physical and mental well-being of bigger breeds.
-
Dedicated Water Stations: A significant highlight is the availability of abundant water. The park is equipped with a hose, wading pools, and dog bowls, ensuring that dogs can stay hydrated and cool, especially during warm California afternoons. A 5-gallon bucket is also mentioned, indicating a robust system for water provision.
-
Waste Management Facilities: Responsible pet ownership is encouraged through the provision of poop bags and numerous garbage bins strategically placed along the perimeter of the park. This facilitates a clean environment for all users.
-
Shade Structures: Understanding the California climate, the park features welcomed shade structures, providing essential relief from the sun. Additionally, natural shade is available on the western side of the park in the afternoon due to trees beyond the fence line.

-
Excellent Water Provisions: The park goes above and beyond in ensuring dogs stay hydrated and cool. With a hose, wading pools, dog bowls, and even a 5-gallon bucket, there is ample water available, which is particularly crucial on warm California days.
-
Effective Waste Management: The presence of readily available poop bags and numerous garbage bins along the perimeter signifies a strong commitment to cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, contributing to a pleasant experience for everyone.

Size-Specific Design (Large Dogs): While there is a fence between small and large dog areas, it's noted to be short (3' chain link). However, the park is primarily geared towards large dogs, offering the space they need, which is a key highlight for owners of bigger breeds seeking suitable play areas.
As a public dog park, Phoenix Large Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special deals in the traditional sense that a retail business might. Its value comes from being a freely accessible, well-maintained community resource. Therefore, there are no ongoing "promotions" or "special offers" that would involve discounts or limited-time deals.
However, the park's "special offer" is its consistent provision of a high-quality environment for large dogs and their owners, free of charge. This includes:
-
Free Access to Extensive Space: The primary benefit is the complimentary access to a large, open area where dogs can exercise and play off-leash without any fees.
-
Complimentary Water Amenities: The availability of hoses, wading pools, and bowls for dog hydration is a significant value-add, preventing owners from needing to bring their own extensive water supplies.

-
Shade and Comfort Features: The presence of shade structures and natural shade, along with seating (implied by owners relaxing while dogs play fetch), offers a comfortable experience without any additional cost.
Any "special events" at Phoenix Large Dog Park would typically be community-organized, such as clean-up days, adoption events hosted by local shelters, or informal gatherings of dog owners. Phoenix Large Dog Park is an exceptionally suitable place for California locals, particularly those residing in Fair Oaks and the broader Sacramento region, for several compelling reasons. Firstly, its design caters specifically to large dogs, offering the expansive space and robust amenities that bigger breeds require for adequate exercise and socialization. In a state where many dog parks can feel cramped, the sheer size of Phoenix Large Dog Park is a significant draw, ensuring that high-energy dogs can truly run and play to their heart's content. This focus on larger dogs addresses a specific need within the local pet-owning community.
Secondly, the park's commitment to maintenance and user comfort is evident in its plentiful grass, consistent cleanliness, and thoughtful amenities. The availability of ample water sources, including hoses and wading pools, is a crucial feature, especially given California's often warm climate, ensuring dogs stay hydrated and cool during their play. Similarly, the provision of shade structures and natural afternoon shade directly addresses the need for comfort and safety for both pets and their owners on sunny days. The ready availability of poop bags and garbage bins further underscores the park's dedication to cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, making it a pleasant experience for all visitors.
While one review mentioned a negative interaction with a "group of older ladies," the overarching feedback highlights a generally respectful and tidy community of dog owners. This indicates that, for the most part, the park fosters a positive social environment where dogs can interact safely and owners can connect. The focus on non-aggressive play, particularly with fetch, also points to a harmonious atmosphere. For locals, Phoenix Large Dog Park offers a free, well-equipped, and generally positive environment that supports the health, happiness, and social needs of their large canine companions, making it an invaluable community resource in Fair Oaks.

May 20, 2023 · Emily BrownAs another reviewer mentioned, there is a group of older ladies who act as if they own the park. As soon as my dogs and I got inside, this lady was yelling at us to leave. It’s not a good experience for anyone. Here’s a picture of the sheriff (white hair) and the undersheriff. I don’t use those words lightly, she threatened to call the police multiple times.
Nov 30, 2024 · Jay ONealGreat dog park! Lots of very nice locals and very large and clean areas for the dogs to run and socialize. They have 3 separate parks, one for small dogs, one for large dogs and even one small side park for timid or shy dogs.
Apr 21, 2025 · Raul SciakyAmazing dogs and people. We started going with our dog about a year ago and have made some great friends. I love this dog park.
May 29, 2025 · Danah “Purple Princess” BoehmerWhat a wonderful dog park. Several large areas and a couple small areas for the dogs to run and play. Water pools in each area for dogs to cool and tennis balls everywhere. The crowd seemed very attentive to their dogs and no incidents while I was visiting. Very clean park and well maintained. So grateful to have found this park to bring my shepherd.
