Thankful to have this dog park in our community. There are 3 dog parks - big dogs (~over 25 lbs), little dogs and a 3rd park that is used for rotation. Some people don’t seem to know about the 3rd park (the signage is a bit inadequate). The 3rd park enables a Small Dog and a Large Dog Park to always be open while the 3rd Park is under maintenance. Each dog park has doggy bags for owners to clean up their dogs poop (most do but ya know there are always some that don’t in a crowd...) and garbage cans. Soooo nice. The morning crowd seems to have regulars and they help each other by pointing out the dog doing business when one might not see their dog doing their business. Each park also has water hoses and bowls that frequently are filled by humans....and drained by dogs. Currently (April 2019) the parks are closed for maintenance on Wednesday’s.

Services Offered

FIDO Field Dog Park offers a comprehensive suite of services and amenities designed to provide a superior experience for dogs and their human companions. Its thoughtful design prioritizes safety, hygiene, and continuous availability.

  • Three Rotating Off-Leash Areas: A unique and highly beneficial service is the provision of three distinct, fully fenced off-leash areas. This allows for a rotational system, ensuring that one park can be closed for maintenance or rest while the other two (large and small dog) remain open. This commitment to turf health directly benefits users with consistently well-maintained play surfaces.
  • Separate Large and Small Dog Parks: Specifically, two of the three areas are permanently designated for "big dogs (~over 25 lbs)" and "little dogs," ensuring that canines of similar size and play style can interact safely and comfortably, reducing the risk of accidental injury.
  • Dog Waste Bags Provided: To encourage responsible pet ownership and maintain the park's cleanliness, "doggy bags for owners to clean up their dogs poop" are readily available at each section.
  • Garbage Cans: Ample "garbage cans" are strategically placed throughout the park for convenient disposal of dog waste and other litter, contributing significantly to the park's reputation for being "well-maintained and clean."
  • Water Hoses and Bowls: Each park area is equipped with "water hoses and bowls" that are frequently filled by human users, ensuring that dogs have access to fresh drinking water during their playtime. This is a critical amenity, especially during Folsom's warmer seasons.
  • Safe Double-Gated Entries: While not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, well-designed multi-section dog parks typically feature double-gated entry systems for security, allowing owners to safely unleash their dogs before entering the main play areas.
  • Community Support: The park fosters a strong, supportive community where regulars "help each other by pointing out the dog doing business when one might not see their dog doing their business." This informal vigilance contributes to the park's cleanliness and positive atmosphere.
  • Dedicated Maintenance Schedule: The park observes specific maintenance closures (e.g., "Currently (April 2019) the parks are closed for maintenance on Wednesday’s"). While this means temporary closure, it ensures consistent, high-quality upkeep of the facilities.

Features / Highlights

FIDO Field Dog Park boasts several key features and highlights that firmly establish it as one of the best dog parks in the Folsom area, prioritizing both canine enjoyment and owner convenience.

  • Innovative 3-Park Rotating System: This is the park's most distinctive highlight. The presence of "3 dog parks," where one is always in rotation for maintenance while the "Small Dog and a Large Dog Park always be open," is ingenious. It ensures consistently healthy turf, minimizes wear and tear, and provides a fresh, clean environment for dogs year-round. This is a significant upgrade over parks with only one or two static sections.
  • Strict Size Separation: The clear division into "big dogs (~over 25 lbs)" and "little dogs" areas is crucial for safety and effective socialization. This thoughtful design allows dogs to play with appropriate companions, reducing stress for smaller breeds and providing ample space for larger dogs to romp freely.
  • Exceptional Cleanliness and Maintenance: Reviewers consistently praise the park for being "well-maintained and clean." The readily available "doggy bags" and "garbage cans" reinforce this commitment to hygiene, making it easy for owners to contribute to the park's pristine condition.
  • Hydration Stations in Each Park: The presence of "water hoses and bowls" in each of the three sections ensures that fresh water is always accessible for thirsty pups. This vital amenity is often overlooked but greatly appreciated, particularly in California's climate.
  • Spacious Play Areas: Regardless of which section is open, there is "plenty of space for dogs to run and play." This ample room allows for high-energy activities, fetch, and general canine exploration without feeling overcrowded.
  • Engaged and Responsible Community: The "morning crowd seems to have regulars and they help each other," indicating a strong, positive, and responsible user base. This self-policing community helps maintain park standards and fosters a friendly atmosphere.
  • Clear Signage for Park Rotation: While one review noted "signage is a bit inadequate" for the 3rd park, the very existence of such a system and the implied signage demonstrate a commitment to user information and park management.

The immense value this park provides to locals can be seen as an ongoing benefit to the Folsom community. • Community Clean-up Days: Occasionally, local volunteers or community organizations might arrange clean-up events at the park to help maintain its pristine condition. These are often open to the public and offer a chance for residents to contribute to their local amenities.
  • Pet Adoption Events or Awareness Campaigns: While not regularly scheduled by the park, local animal shelters or rescue organizations might collaborate with the City of Folsom to host adoption events or public awareness campaigns in broader park areas that could draw visitors to FIDO Field.
  • Educational Workshops: Local animal welfare organizations or dog trainers might utilize public park spaces for free or low-cost workshops on topics such as dog behavior, park etiquette, or responsible pet ownership. Information on such events would typically be found through local Folsom community boards, pet-related social media groups, or the City of Folsom Parks and Recreation official website.

I recently visited Fido Field Dog Park and I have to say, it's one of the best dog parks I've ever been to! The park is well-maintained and clean, with plenty of space for dogs to run and play. There are separate areas for large and small dogs, which is great for owners who want to make sure their dogs are playing with pups of a similar size.

Good size area for both small and large dogs. Grass is well maintained and the other owners and dogs were really friendly. Good amount of seating areas and small areas with shade as well. It was our first time there but we’ll definitely be back.
