Welcome to Pearsall Dog Park
For dog owners in San Antonio, finding a place where their canine companions can truly stretch their legs and socialize freely is a real treat. Pearsall Dog Park, located within the vast Pearsall Park, is consistently hailed as a top destination, offering an expansive and welcoming environment for dogs of all sizes. It's a place where pups have "plenty of space for them to run around," and owners often find themselves part of a friendly, watchful community. This isn't just a simple dog run; it's a vibrant hub for canine fun and human connection.
Pearsall Park itself is a massive 505-acre recreational area on the South side of San Antonio, offering a wide array of activities beyond just the dog park. This larger context means visitors to the dog park also have access to beautiful trails and other park amenities. The dog park, specifically, is a well-regarded component of this larger complex, reflecting San Antonio's commitment to providing diverse outdoor spaces for its residents, including its beloved four-legged citizens. Its growing popularity, even drawing visitors like Lulu from June of 2024, speaks to its quality and the positive experiences it consistently provides.
Pearsall Dog Park is conveniently located at 5414 Old Pearsall Rd #5346, San Antonio, TX 78242, USA. This address places it within the expansive Pearsall Park, on the southwest side of San Antonio. Its location on Old Pearsall Road makes it relatively easy to access for residents from various parts of the city, particularly the south and west sides.
The park is part of a large recreational complex, which means there is typically ample parking available for visitors. Pearsall Park itself is easily reachable via major roads, ensuring a straightforward drive for most dog owners. The dog park operates with generous hours, generally from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, offering flexibility for visits whether you're an early bird or prefer an evening romp. While navigating within a large park can sometimes be tricky for first-time visitors, once you locate the dog park area, its amenities are readily available.
Pearsall Dog Park is designed to provide a comprehensive off-leash experience, focusing on safety, cleanliness, and fun. Here are the key services and amenities you can expect:
Separated Play Areas: The park thoughtfully divides its space into two distinct, fenced sections: "one side for the large dogs the other side for the small dogs." This separation ensures a safer and more comfortable play environment for all dogs, accommodating different sizes and play styles.
Off-Leash Freedom: Within these designated fenced areas, dogs are free to roam, run, and interact without the restriction of a leash, which is essential for their physical exercise and social development.
Water Fountains: The park is equipped with water fountains, crucial for keeping dogs hydrated during their playtime, especially given the Texas heat. As one reviewer noted, there's "plenty of water."
Waste Bags and Trash Cans: To promote a clean environment, the park provides waste bag dispensers and trash receptacles, encouraging responsible pet owners to clean up after their dogs. Reviewers appreciate that people are "always cleaning after their dogs."
Picnic Tables: For human companions, there are "picnic tables" available, offering spots to relax, supervise their dogs, or "chitchat" with other owners.
Pearsall Dog Park is well-loved by its community for several key features and highlights that enhance the overall experience:
Expansive Space: The park is described as a "big doggy park plenty of space for them to run around," with a total of 1.5 acres dedicated to the dog park. This generous size allows for ample running, chasing, and playing, which is vital for energetic dogs.
Agility Equipment: The large dog side specifically features "agility equipment and fire hydrants," providing stimulating obstacles for dogs to climb and explore, adding another layer of fun to their playtime.
Friendly and Watchful Community: A significant highlight is the "very friendly" atmosphere among the owners. Many are "regulars" who look out for each other's dogs, offering "great advice," and creating a supportive environment. The community aspect is strong, with people who "like to sit at the picnic table and chitchat."
Tolerance and Inclusivity: One reviewer's experience with their pitbull/American staff mix, Lulu, highlights the park's welcoming nature, with older ladies encouraging them to "come over with your baby we don’t judge." This inclusivity is a strong positive feature.
Natural Play Opportunities: While a specific shade count isn't given, reviews mention "some shade," providing relief from the sun. The open grassy landscape offers a natural setting for play.
Peak Social Hours: The park is "very busy between 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm" (depending on daylight savings), suggesting a vibrant social scene where dogs can "play & make friends," and owners can enjoy active conversations.
Part of a Larger Park System: Being situated within the 505-acre Pearsall Park means visitors can enjoy other amenities of the main park, such as walking/running trails (including a 5K course that doesn't cross streets), splash pads, playgrounds, and even a skate park, making it a full-day destination.
As a public park operated by the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation, Pearsall Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts. However, as part of the larger Pearsall Park, it may be associated with various community-focused events or initiatives that benefit residents and their pets:
City-Wide Park Events: The City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department frequently hosts free events across its park system, which could include dog-friendly walks, pet adoption drives, or community health fairs that benefit pet owners.
Local Pet Group Meet-ups: Given the strong community at Pearsall Dog Park, informal "meet-ups" are common. Local dog clubs or breed-specific groups may also choose this spacious park for organized playdates.
Pearsall Park Special Events: The larger Pearsall Park occasionally hosts major events, such as fitness challenges, concerts, or festivals. While the dog park might not be the direct focus, these events contribute to the park's overall vibrancy and may offer additional activities for pet owners.

Jun 11, 2025 · Rachel “RAYANNE” Rivera😢please don’t abandoned any dogs here with no food or water takes a long time for ACS to pick them up….. you lucky it’s a dog park and we love dogs …. I had save a few Me & my fur babies been coming since June of 2024 At 1st I was a little iffy because Lulu is a mixed breed of pitbull and American staff, but she was just only five months I was on the little doggy side and there was a group underneath the tree in the morning time older ladies in the big dog side they told me come over with your baby we don’t judge and ever since then I fell in love with this dog park some people stay to themselves and some just like to sit at the picnic table and chitchat. Some people look out for your dog.like on food or needing water when you’re there…. Always keep a eye on your dog when other dogs coming in to the gate we always have new dogs coming in sometimes our dogs are just used the norm & they love to check out whoever comes to the gate people and dog wise… KEEP A EYE ON KIDS TO We have very large dogs that can quarterback a toddler cuz they be pushing me when running around it’s by accident because they’re enjoying their free space… it don’t bother me Very busy between 430 pm to 800pm Depending on whether daylight savings time I think best time to go is that time cuz your dog can play & make friends..
Feb 06, 2024 · Stacey QuinteroOverall this is a pretty large park with separate areas for hiking, tennis, kids play areas, picnic and yes a fenced in dog park. There are 2 separate areas for small and large dogs. Good protection if you don't want bigger dogs running over the little ones. Three was a fresh water spout but it was not functional during the day in Feb. Some very nice training / trial equipment to let the dogs run over and through. Lots of open area for full out running. Due to people (not dogs) there is a fair amount of loose waste around the park so wear old, covered shoes.
Feb 07, 2023 · John ThompsonWe visited this place for the first time while meeting with another dog we were considering adopting. The first thing we noticed was the separated park space for small dogs, a nice touch. The park was well maintained, lots of benches for watching your furbabies play, and my favorite part was the drinking fountains that had one faucet for humans and one for the doggies 😄 We didn't get to use them this time, but there are some walking paths surrounding the main park that seem very nice and well-lit. Had a decent amount of parking, too.
Jan 09, 2025 · Jessica WernerLots of room for everyone to have a good time. Plenty of picnic tables and shade to enjoy the outdoors with your pets. Clean and well maintained.
