What a peaceful, beautiful park! Love the duck pond and trees and little pavilion. A perfect venue for the March 2023 Lighten Up Celebration of Conscious Art and Culture. We enjoyed the vendors and poetry readings, musicians, Indian dancers, guided meditations, and the visiting monk's talk, which led into community chant and dancing. As dusk fell, a dancing light show ended the evening. We loved it!

Woodlawn Lake Dog Park provides a range of essential services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for both dogs and their owners.
-
Fully Fenced, Off-Leash Area: The core service is a secure, fully fenced area where dogs can run, play, and socialize freely without a leash. This allows for vital exercise and mental stimulation.
-
Water Fountain: To keep pups (and their owners) hydrated, especially during the warm Texas weather, the park is equipped with a water fountain. While one review noted it "could work better," the presence of this amenity is a key convenience.
-
Poop Bags for Clean-up: Maintaining cleanliness is a priority, and the park provides plenty of dog waste bags, encouraging responsible pet ownership and a pleasant environment for all users.
-
Benches and Shaded Areas: For owners who want to relax while their dogs play, the park offers benches and shaded spots, providing comfort and a respite from the Texas sun.
-
Double-Gated Entrance: For enhanced safety, the dog park features a double-gated entrance, preventing accidental escapes as dogs enter and exit the off-leash area.
-
Dog Toys Allowed: The park's welcoming policy towards dog toys means that owners can bring their favorite fetch items, further enhancing playtime for their pups.
Woodlawn Lake Dog Park stands out for several key features that contribute to its popularity and suitability for San Antonio's dog-loving community.
-
Peaceful and Beautiful Setting: As one visitor described, it’s a "peaceful, beautiful park!" Its location within Woodlawn Lake Park means visitors benefit from the scenic surroundings, including the duck pond and numerous trees, creating a tranquil atmosphere for both pets and people.
-
Dedicated Off-Leash Space: The fenced off-leash area provides a secure zone for dogs to play, giving owners peace of mind. While some users note its "nice size" for dogs to "run around," others suggest it's "small but clean," indicating a compact but functional design.
-
Proximity to Woodlawn Lake and Walking Trail: A major highlight is the dog park's integration with the larger Woodlawn Lake Park. This means that after some off-leash play, owners can take their dogs (on-leash) for a scenic walk around the 1.4-mile concrete trail that encircles the 30-acre lake. This offers a versatile outing for active dogs and their companions.
-
Overall Park Amenities: Beyond the dog park itself, the broader Woodlawn Lake Park offers a wealth of amenities, including picnic areas, playgrounds, a community center, a swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, and fitness stations. This makes it a great destination for a full day of family and pet-friendly activities.
-
Community Hub: The park, including the dog park section, serves as a popular gathering spot for San Antonio residents. It's a place where local events are often held, fostering a strong sense of community.
-
Cleanliness Efforts: Despite occasional challenges with pet waste (as noted in a review), the park provides "plenty of dog bags" and generally aims to maintain a clean environment, emphasizing responsible pet ownership.
As a public park operated by the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, Woodlawn Lake Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers." Its value is derived from being a free, accessible, and well-maintained public amenity for the community.
However, Woodlawn Lake Park itself, as a major city park, is a frequent venue for various community events and celebrations, many of which are free and open to the public. For example, it is famously the site of San Antonio's annual Fourth of July Celebration, complete with fireworks and family-friendly activities. Other events, such as cultural celebrations, fitness activities (like free Zumba classes at the gym or pool), and community gatherings (like art and culture celebrations or family picnics), are regularly hosted at the broader Woodlawn Lake Park. While these are not "promotions" for the dog park specifically, they highlight the dynamic and engaging environment surrounding it, providing added value for Texans visiting the area. Information on upcoming events is usually available through the City of San Antonio's Parks and Recreation official channels.
For inquiries regarding Woodlawn Lake Dog Park, including park rules, hours of operation, or maintenance concerns, the best point of contact is the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.

For San Antonio locals, Woodlawn Lake Dog Park is a truly suitable and appealing choice for their furry family members due to its blend of dedicated off-leash space and integration into a larger, vibrant community park. Texans appreciate spaces that offer both convenience and quality, and Woodlawn Lake Dog Park delivers on both fronts.

Mar 27, 2023 · Mary Jo OlsonBeen there twice now. It's a nice size dog park to let your dog run around. Second time around both gates we're left wide open. Plenty of dog bags to pick up poop, but there was still poop on the ground. So, I'm not sure if it's pet owners, not cleaning up after their pets, or the strays going in there to poop. I wish there was a walking path for the owners to walk around the dog park inside while the dogs roam.
Mar 01, 2025 · Abby “Wnderland143”Super clean, awesome water fountain and not too crazy here. We were going to the Phil Hardberger Park for over a year and it's just gotten worse there because it gets way too busy. I'm not feeling that park no more so we found this hidden gem and its big enough for my 70 pound pup! And the ducks by the pond are fantastic. My 6 month old baby loved this place too.
Dec 17, 2018 · Lama HajDaoudGreat rolling run with my dogs in the grass around the lake path. Dog feces all over though. In the dog park and out. Lots of rain lately, so that’s going into our creek.
