As others have mentioned you have to park in the larger Oak Canyon park and walk to this dog park. There are only 2-3 handicapped spots in front of the dog park. Besides that, the dog park is split into large and small dogs. Sadly, when we went on a weekday there were almost no other dogs here. The only other dog there was a larger dog but the other asked if she could play with ours. They just sniffed each other and ended up not playing haha... The park has benches, lots of trash cans for poop. And a shaded watering center for the pups. Very clean overall. It seems to have constant up-keep as well, as we noticed a worker tightening up fences while we arrived. That's why everything was in great shape.

Welcome to Oak Canyon Dog Park
For dog owners across the beautiful state of California, finding the perfect spot for our furry companions to stretch their legs, socialize, and simply be dogs is a top priority. While the Golden State offers an abundance of scenic outdoor spaces, a dedicated off-leash dog park provides a unique and invaluable environment for canine well-being. Nestled within the serene community of Oak Park, Oak Canyon Dog Park stands out as a highly regarded destination, offering a clean, safe, and engaging space for local pups and their human counterparts. It's a place where tails wag freely, friendships blossom (both canine and human), and the simple joy of off-leash play comes to life.
The philosophy behind a well-designed dog park is straightforward: to create a secure, controlled setting where dogs can express their natural behaviors without the constraints of a leash. This freedom is vital for their physical health, providing essential exercise to burn off energy and maintain a healthy weight. Equally important, it offers crucial mental stimulation and fosters positive social development, leading to well-adjusted and happier pets. For us, as owners, dog parks provide a relaxing environment to observe our beloved companions thriving, connect with fellow dog lovers, and appreciate the simple pleasure of watching our pups enjoy themselves. Oak Canyon Dog Park embodies these principles, consistently striving to deliver a positive experience through its thoughtful design and diligent maintenance, making it a true asset to the Oak Park community.
Oak Canyon Dog Park is located at 5600 Hollytree Dr, Oak Park, CA 91377, USA. Its address places it within the picturesque community of Oak Park, nestled in Ventura County, just west of the Los Angeles County line. While the address itself points directly to the park, user reviews highlight an important nuance regarding accessibility:
Parking: As mentioned by multiple visitors, the primary parking area for Oak Canyon Dog Park is at the larger Oak Park Community Park (free parking). Visitors are advised to park there and take a "short 5-10 minute walk" to reach the dog park. While there are "only 2-3 handicapped spots in front of the dog park," general parking is plentiful at the community park. This walk, though short, means it's not a direct drive-up access for most visitors, which is good to know in advance. The advice "Do not follow google maps directions" blindly and instead "Park at the Oak Park Community park" is crucial for a smooth arrival. For those with two drivers, a drop-off option directly at the dog park entrance before parking the car in the main lot is also suggested, which could be helpful for individuals with mobility challenges or multiple dogs.
The park's location in Oak Park makes it highly accessible for residents of this planned community, as well as those from neighboring areas like Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, and Thousand Oaks. While specific public transportation routes directly to the park might be limited in this suburban setting, the general area is well-connected by local roads. The walk from the main community park adds a pleasant warm-up and cool-down opportunity for dogs and their owners, integrating the dog park experience into a larger park visit.
Oak Canyon Dog Park is thoughtfully equipped with a range of services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable, safe, and clean experience for all visitors. Based on consistent user feedback, here's what you can expect:
-
Separate Areas for Large and Small Dogs: This essential feature allows dogs of different sizes and temperaments to play safely and comfortably. The park is "split into large and small dogs" sections, minimizing potential conflicts and creating a more relaxed environment for all.
-
Shaded Watering Center for Pups: Crucial for keeping dogs hydrated, especially under the California sun. The presence of a "shaded watering center" goes a step beyond typical fountains, offering a comfortable spot for dogs to drink.
-
Plenty of Trash Cans for Poop: Maintaining a clean environment is a top priority. Abundant trash cans make it easy for owners to properly dispose of pet waste, contributing to the park's "very clean overall" status.
-
Benches: Providing comfortable seating for owners to relax while their dogs play, fostering a sense of community among visitors.
-
Constant Up-Keep and Maintenance: As noted by a visitor who "noticed a worker tightening up fences while we arrived," there is clear evidence of "constant up-keep," ensuring the park facilities remain "in great shape." This proactive maintenance is a vital service that contributes significantly to the park's quality.
Beyond its essential services, Oak Canyon Dog Park boasts several key features and highlights that make it a favored destination for dog owners in the region:
-
Good Grass Quality: A recurring positive mention is the "Good grass" within the dog park. While dog parks can often become dusty, well-maintained grass provides a more pleasant and cleaner play surface.
-
Very Clean Overall: This is a consistent theme in reviews, indicating high standards of cleanliness, which is paramount for the health and enjoyment of both dogs and humans.
-
Secure Fencing: While not explicitly detailed as a feature, the reference to workers "tightening up fences" implies that the fencing is robust and regularly inspected, ensuring a safe and secure environment for off-leash play.
-
Quiet and Relaxed Atmosphere (on weekdays): One reviewer noted that on a weekday, there were "almost no other dogs here," which led to a "quiet" visit where their dog could explore calmly. While some might prefer more dogs for socialization, this offers a peaceful option for those seeking a less crowded experience.
-
Integration with Oak Canyon Park: The dog park's location within the larger Oak Canyon Park means visitors can combine their dog park outing with other recreational activities, such as enjoying the general park amenities before or after their dog's playtime. The pleasant "short 5-10 minutes walk" from the main parking area can be seen as a feature in itself, offering a gentle stroll amidst the natural surroundings.
-
Shaded Areas: The mention of a "shaded watering center" suggests that some relief from the sun is available within the dog park area, a valuable feature in sunny California.
As a public amenity likely managed by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District (which serves Oak Park), Oak Canyon Dog Park generally does not offer commercial promotions, discounts, or retail-style special offers. Its primary "promotion" is the free access and excellent facilities it provides to the local community.
However, public park districts often engage in community-focused initiatives or events that can be considered beneficial "offers" to residents. These might include:
-
Community Pet Events: The park district or local animal welfare organizations might periodically host events such as low-cost vaccination clinics, microchipping events, or pet adoption drives at or near major parks within their jurisdiction.
-
Responsible Pet Ownership Workshops: From time to time, free workshops on topics like dog obedience, leash etiquette, or park rules might be offered to promote responsible pet ownership.
-
Volunteer Opportunities: Opportunities for community members to participate in park clean-up days or maintenance projects can be seen as a way to contribute to and benefit from the park's continued excellence.
To stay informed about any potential events, temporary closures for maintenance, or specific park rules, residents are encouraged to consult the official channels.

Sep 04, 2023 · Di WuDo not follow google maps directions. Park at the Oak Park Community park (free) and take the short 5-10 minutes walk to the hidden dog park. Good grass, water fountain. If you have two drivers, you can drive all the way into the park, get dropped off, and take the car back to the park.
May 25, 2025 · Alex KimVery nice park, it is divided in two sections: one for all people (i.e. picnics *that’s my first picture*) and a second section for dogs (the rest of my pictures). Very clean place, enough parking -only handicap have parking spots next to the dog park, otherwise you need to park on section one mentioned above, it is a five minute walk. The dog park has two sections (small and large dog area).
Apr 18, 2021 · LaLo MaLoall the dogs and most of the owners are well behaved! Also, there is a really rusted pipe connected to the fence for some odd reason near the bench on the hill of the large dog side.
Nov 24, 2023 · Courtney FergusonVisited this park the other day. Love how quite and spacious the area is. Lots of grass for the dogs. Decent size space for small and large dog area. Only downfall is the walk to get to the dog park from the parking. Other then that we loved the space and location of it!
