We love it here!!! Park is always clean, has dog bags and on Saturday it’s a lot of dogs and friendly people. I wish the water fountain works, there’s a bathroom on site and there’s a covered space with a grill that can host doggie birthday. There’s a lake, trail and overall quiet!

Location and Accessibility

Conveniently located in far North Dallas, NorthBark Dog Park is easily accessible for residents throughout the DFW Metroplex. You'll find this expansive facility at:

4899 Gramercy Oaks Dr, Dallas, TX 75287, USA

Its strategic location near the North Dallas Tollway and the President George Bush Tollway makes it a practical choice for those coming from various northern Dallas suburbs and surrounding areas. Ample parking is available in a large lot across from the park entrance, ensuring a relatively hassle-free arrival. The park typically operates from sunrise until 10:00 p.m. daily. However, it's crucial for local users to be aware of the park's specific closure schedule: NorthBark Dog Park is closed every Tuesday for maintenance to allow for cleaning and upkeep. Additionally, like many outdoor facilities, it is often closed on rainy days and potentially during colder months to prevent damage and ensure safety. It's always a good idea to check the Dallas Park and Recreation Rain Out Line (214-614-6711) or their official app for real-time updates before heading out, especially after inclement weather.

Services Offered

NorthBark Dog Park is designed with a comprehensive suite of services and amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for dogs and their human companions:

  • Multiple Off-Leash Play Areas: The park provides three distinct, fenced-in sections to accommodate different dog sizes and needs. There is a dedicated area for small dogs, a large area for large dogs, and a central area that often includes the doggy lake/pond. This separation helps ensure a safer play environment, though owners should always remain vigilant.

  • Dog Drinking Bowls/Water Fountains: Keeping dogs hydrated is essential, especially in the Texas heat. While some user reviews mention issues with water fountain functionality, the park is equipped with dog drinking bowls and general drinking fountains. It's always advisable to bring your own water as a backup.

  • Pet Waste Stations: Promoting responsible pet ownership, numerous pet waste stations are available throughout the park, often stocked with complimentary bags for easy cleanup. Visitors are encouraged to pick up after their dogs to maintain the park's cleanliness.

  • Dog Showers/Rinse Stations: After a fun (and potentially muddy or pond-filled) play session, convenient dog showers are available to help owners rinse off their pups before getting back in the car.

  • Restrooms: For the convenience of human visitors, there are restroom facilities on-site.

  • Covered Pavilion with Grill: A notable amenity, the park features a covered pavilion equipped with a grill. This space can be ideal for hosting dog-friendly gatherings or even doggie birthday parties, offering shelter and picnic facilities.

Features / Highlights

What truly makes NorthBark Dog Park a standout choice for Dallas and North Texas dog owners?

  • Largest Dog Park in North Texas: Spanning an incredible 22.3 acres, NorthBark provides vast open spaces for dogs to run, sprint, and play without feeling confined. This ample room is a significant advantage for energetic breeds.

  • Doggy Lake and "Dog Beach": A major highlight for water-loving dogs, the park features a man-made pond with a gently sloping "dog beach," allowing pups to wade, swim, and cool off. While some reviews mention the pond's cleanliness, it remains a highly popular feature.

  • Six-Foot-Wide Loop Trail: For owners who enjoy walking or jogging with their dogs (on-leash in designated trail areas, or alongside their off-leash pups), there's a generous loop trail that meanders through parts of the park, offering scenic views and a good exercise opportunity.

  • Varied Terrain: Beyond just flat lawns, the park incorporates a swale (a low tract of land) and expansive lawn areas, providing diverse environments for exploration.

  • Shaded Areas and Benches: The park offers shaded areas, often from mature trees, and numerous benches strategically placed for owners to relax and observe their dogs. The pavilion also provides significant cover.

  • Custom Design Elements: The park features unique aesthetic touches like elegant flagstone structures and beautiful metal fencing with custom-cut dog silhouettes, adding to its appealing ambiance.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a city-operated public park, NorthBark Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or sales. However, as a major community hub, it frequently hosts or is involved in various pet-friendly events and community initiatives organized by the City of Dallas Parks & Recreation Department or local animal welfare groups. These can include:

  • Community "Bark Fest" Events: Local alumni associations or community groups, such as the NU Club of Dallas/Ft. Worth, have hosted "Alumni Bark Fest" events at NorthBark, inviting dog lovers and their pets for fun-filled play dates and social gatherings. These are often free and open to the public, focusing on community building.

  • Adoption Events: While not a daily occurrence, large dog parks like NorthBark are sometimes chosen as venues for pet adoption drives by local shelters and rescue organizations, providing an opportunity for prospective pet parents to meet adoptable animals in an open environment.

  • Dog Park Maintenance Days: Although not a "promotion," the consistent closure for maintenance on Tuesdays is a vital "service" that ensures the park remains a high-quality venue. Community volunteer days might also be organized to help with upkeep.

For the most current information on any upcoming events or community programs associated with NorthBark Dog Park, local Texas residents should regularly check the official Dallas Park and Recreation Department website (dallasparks.org), their social media channels, or the city's events calendar. I got to a lot of dog parks in north Dallas, and this is not the best of them. I do give it a thumbs up for the size. There are 3 areas for different size dogs, and the middle area has a pond. And it is close to a lot of apartments. So I'm sure those folks use it and like it. But I don't think it is as kept up and maintained as other dog parks in the area. There is poop everywhere, so owners pick up your dogs poop. But also the ground is not as nice, not much grass. The big dog area on the west side has a lot of tree limb and rock hazards. Some of the gates are broken so you really have to watch your dog. And the big pond is dirty. I just think the city could do a better job of keeping it clean and maintained.

Really love this dog park. There are several different fenced in parks at the one location. It’s just off of George Bush, but still very peaceful.

This park has many attributes that I loved! The large and small dog park were different sized to accommodate its visitors. There’s a pool that you and your pup can enjoy or simply walk around if y’all don’t want to get wet. There’s gigantic cement blocks for humans (and four legged friends) to sit on, plenty of parking (all the way in the back), and restrooms to use. The culture was happy and relaxing. While the dogs were running and rolling, the owners were laughing and looking at other beautiful dogs. Besides this park being right of the DNT, it was in a safe location.
