It’s a huge dog park. They have water stations. There are benches and chairs. There’s even a place to spray off your dogs. Not a lot of shaded area. I’d say bring chairs to sit under the trees. Also, it’s almost all dirt. Your dog will get dirty. Lots of clean up supplies and trash cans. Even a water bottle fill station. 👍 Very important: BRING DOG POOP BAGS!!! There are trash cans but no dog bag station.

Welcome to Laurel Canyon Dog Park
For dog owners across California, especially those in the expansive Los Angeles area, finding a truly spacious and dedicated off-leash environment for their canine companions can be a game-changer. The Laurel Canyon Dog Park, nestled in the scenic hills of Los Angeles, stands out as a formidable option, renowned for its impressive size and robust amenities designed for active dogs. This park is more than just a patch of green; it's a vibrant hub where dogs of all sizes can run, play, and socialize freely, and where owners can connect with fellow pet enthusiasts. It offers a much-needed escape from the urban density, providing a natural setting for both dogs and their human companions to enjoy the outdoors.
The Laurel Canyon Dog Park is conveniently located at 8260 Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90046, USA. Its address places it high up in the hills, offering a unique setting that feels a world away from the city's hustle and bustle, yet remains remarkably accessible for many Angelenos. Mulholland Drive itself is a well-known thoroughfare, making the park relatively easy to find for those familiar with the area. While the specific details on parking aren't provided in the reviews, its location on Mulholland Drive typically means ample street parking might be available, though it's always wise to arrive early during peak hours to secure a spot. The elevated position of the park also means that getting there might involve some winding roads, but the destination offers a rewarding experience for those seeking a larger off-leash space. Its accessibility makes it a viable option for residents not just from Laurel Canyon, but also from Studio City, Hollywood, and other surrounding neighborhoods who are willing to make the scenic drive.
The Laurel Canyon Dog Park is well-equipped to support a full day of canine activity and owner comfort. Its services are geared towards facilitating an enjoyable and responsible off-leash experience.
Services Offered:
- Expansive Off-Leash Area: The park's most significant service is its vast fenced-in space, providing ample room for dogs to run, chase, and explore without the constraints of a leash. This large area accommodates various play styles and energy levels.
- Water Stations: Multiple water stations are available throughout the park, ensuring dogs can stay hydrated during their playtime. This essential amenity is particularly valuable on warm California days.
- Dog Spray-Off Area: A dedicated area for spraying off dirty dogs is provided, a thoughtful service given the park's dirt surface. This helps owners keep their vehicles and homes cleaner after a visit.
- Benches and Chairs: Numerous benches and chairs are scattered within the park, offering comfortable seating for owners to relax and supervise their pets.
- Water Bottle Fill Station: A separate fill station for human water bottles is available, a convenient amenity for owners to stay hydrated themselves.
- Trash Cans: Abundant trash cans are strategically placed throughout the park, facilitating easy disposal of waste and helping to keep the park clean.
- Clean-Up Supplies (Limited): While there are trash cans, visitors should note there are no dog bag stations, emphasizing the need for owners to bring their own waste bags for responsible cleanup.
Laurel Canyon Dog Park distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that contribute to its appeal and functionality, making it a popular choice for Los Angeles dog owners.
Features / Highlights:
- Huge Size: This is arguably the park's most defining feature. Its vast area allows for extensive running and playing, which is a significant advantage for energetic dogs and those who thrive in larger open spaces.
- Dirt Surface: The park's surface is predominantly dirt. While this means dogs are likely to get dirty, it also provides a natural, softer surface for their paws compared to concrete or asphalt.
- Fenced Containment: The park is fully fenced, offering a secure environment for off-leash play. While the entrance/exit gates are single gates (a point noted by a reviewer as less secure for preventing escapes), the overall containment ensures dogs remain within the designated area.
- Community Vibe: While not explicitly stated as "friendly people," the presence of multiple amenities and a large space often fosters a natural gathering point for dog owners, potentially leading to a sense of community among regulars.
- Scenic Location: Situated on Mulholland Drive, the park benefits from its elevated position, offering a pleasant and somewhat secluded atmosphere away from urban noise.
- Thoughtful Amenities: The inclusion of a dog spray-off area and a water bottle fill station for humans demonstrates a consideration for the practical needs of both dogs and their owners.
As a public park operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, Laurel Canyon Dog Park typically does not offer specific promotions or special offers in the traditional commercial sense. Its value is inherent in its status as a free, publicly accessible amenity for dog owners. Any potential "special offers" would likely come in the form of community events or initiatives organized by the City or local pet-related non-profits.
To stay informed about any such activities, it's advisable for local users to regularly check the official website of the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks or local community calendars for the Laurel Canyon area. Occasionally, local animal shelters or pet adoption agencies might hold events at city parks, which could be considered a form of community promotion. However, visitors should not expect discounts, loyalty programs, or similar commercial promotions. The park's consistent offering of a large, well-equipped space for off-leash dog play is its primary and ongoing benefit to the community.
For those planning a visit or seeking more information about Laurel Canyon Dog Park, here is the essential contact information:
Address: 8260 Mulholland Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90046, USA
Phone: (818) 766-8445
This phone number typically connects to the general information line for the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks or a related facility, where staff can provide details on park operating hours, any temporary closures, or specific regulations. While the park is generally open during daylight hours, it's always a good practice to verify before visiting, especially for the latest updates on maintenance schedules or other pertinent information.
For locals in California, especially those residing in the vast and often densely populated areas of Los Angeles, Laurel Canyon Dog Park offers a highly suitable and much-needed resource. Its sheer size is a significant draw, providing ample room for dogs to truly stretch their legs and engage in vigorous play, which is often difficult to find in urban settings. While the dirt surface means your dog will likely get dirty, the presence of a dedicated spray-off area mitigates this concern, showcasing the park's practical design. The availability of water stations, benches, and abundant trash cans further enhances the user experience, demonstrating a focus on both canine and human comfort.
Despite some concerns about single gates at the entrance/exit and the occasional urine smell (common in any high-traffic dog park), these are minor considerations when weighed against the park's overall benefits. The opportunity for dogs to socialize in such a large, fenced environment is invaluable for their well-being and for fostering a sense of community among pet owners. For those seeking a truly expansive and well-equipped off-leash dog park in Los Angeles, Laurel Canyon Dog Park is undoubtedly a top choice, providing a vital outdoor space for active pups and their devoted owners.

May 18, 2025 · Siciliangirl 9We're from a comparatively small town, so my opinion may not resonate with others. The park was decent size, the containment fence seemed reasonable with no visible escape holes with the exception of the following, the entrance/exit gates were both just single gates so getting in and out was not particularly secure. When we were leaving with our dogs leashed, a dog ran out the gate between our feet with the owner hot on the trail. When I apologized, the owner said it was no problem, that it happens "all the time." Other than that, the only complaint was the urine smell. It was really prevalent in the park.
May 21, 2025 · a google userAmazing dog park! Fully fenced in and HUGE. Tons of space to run and even when there are a lot of dogs there’s tons of open space. Kind of weird there are some reviews complaining about there being a lot of dogs lol, like it’s a dog park? what do you expect? Anyway this place is great. There’s one spot in the back where the fence is a little lower so if your dog is crafty they could jump over it but in general it’s secure.
Mar 10, 2025 · Savannah DarasReally nice space in the middle of the LA craziness to get away and enjoy nature. Big open area for doggos to run free off leash. Also small dog area if you want to use it. Plenty of areas to sit and also a lot of parking. Porta potties if you need to use them.
May 28, 2023 · kmacneil91This park would receive a full five stars, if it were not for the massive dog baby sitting groups that will take over benches and set up camp for hours. There’s always plenty of parking and never too busy
