Our dogs had fun here. We took them on our last day visiting Colorado kind of a chill day. There isn't any grass, and it's not very big, but there were bowls of water that weren't frozen and toys laying around. We were the o ly two dogs there so we did not use the small dog area but its nice they have it.

For dog owners living in or visiting Woodland Park, Colorado, finding a dedicated and safe space for your furry companions to run and play is a true blessing amidst the stunning mountain scenery. The Golden Meadows Dog Park stands as a testament to community effort and pet passion, offering a unique and welcoming environment for dogs of all sizes. While it may not be the largest or grassiest park, its thoughtful design and the spirit of its supporters make it a cherished local amenity.

Introduction / Overview

The Golden Meadows Dog Park is a fully fenced, off-leash dog park located within the Meadow Wood Sports Complex in Woodland Park, Colorado. What makes this park particularly special is its origin: it was the brainchild of a local Girl Scout Gold Award project, brought to life through the dedication of community members, local businesses, and volunteers. This history imbues the park with a strong sense of local ownership and care.

Designed to accommodate various canine needs, the park features separate areas for large and small dogs, ensuring that all pups, from the most energetic to the most timid, can enjoy their time safely and comfortably. While some visitors note the lack of extensive grass, they consistently highlight the availability of water bowls, donated toys, and the overall welcoming atmosphere. It’s a spot where dogs can enjoy mountain sunshine and secure play, making it a fantastic addition to Woodland Park's pet-friendly offerings.

Location and Accessibility

The Golden Meadows Dog Park is located at the Meadow Wood Sports Complex, with the general address being Woodland Park, CO 80863, USA. More specifically, it can be found at 111 North Baldwin Street, Woodland Park, CO 80863, within the complex. Its position in Woodland Park makes it readily accessible for residents of this charming mountain town and those visiting the surrounding areas of Teller County.

The park is conveniently situated, often noted for its ease of access and nearby free parking, which is a significant advantage for dog owners. As part of a larger sports complex, there's usually ample space to park your vehicle. The park is generally open during daylight hours, aligning with typical public park operations, allowing for morning, afternoon, and early evening visits. Its location within Meadow Wood Sports Complex means it's part of a well-utilized community area, making it a visible and convenient stop for dog owners.

Services Offered
  • Separated Off-Leash Areas: The park provides distinct, fenced-in sections for both large dogs and small dogs, allowing for safe and appropriate play based on size and temperament.

  • Water Bowls and Access: While there may not be a direct water fountain, the park consistently provides water bowls, and visitors often find them filled. However, it's always recommended to bring your own water, especially during hot Colorado days, to ensure your dog stays hydrated.

  • Waste Bag Dispensers and Bins: For cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, the park is equipped with waste bag dispensers (often in "little wood boxes" on poles) and trash cans for easy disposal.

  • Donated Toys: Visitors frequently report finding various dog toys left by other users, encouraging spontaneous play and interaction among the canine visitors.

  • Seating for Owners: Numerous benches are available throughout the park, many of which have been donated by local individuals or businesses in memory of beloved pets, offering comfortable spots for owners to rest and supervise.

  • Secure Fencing: The entire park is fully fenced, providing a secure environment for dogs to play off-leash without concerns of wandering.

Features / Highlights
  • Community-Driven Creation: A significant highlight is that Golden Meadows Dog Park was initiated and developed as a Girl Scout Gold Award project, garnering support from local banks and community members, showcasing a strong sense of local pride and involvement.

  • Dedication and Sponsorships: The presence of donated benches and amenities, often bearing the names of beloved pets or local businesses (like a dentist's office mentioned in reviews), underscores the strong community support and adds a personal touch to the park.

  • Shade from Trees: Despite not being heavily forested, the park benefits from a few mature trees and several "little bitty trees" that offer valuable shade, providing relief from the sun on clear Colorado days.

  • Social Atmosphere: The park fosters a friendly environment, where owners and dogs alike can socialize. Even when it's not crowded, the provided toys and thoughtful layout make for an enjoyable visit.

  • Unique Terrain: While lacking lush grass, the park's natural surface provides a different experience. Owners should be aware of potential rocky or uneven areas and ensure their dog's paws are protected if sensitive.

  • Always Something Available: Whether it's unfrozen water bowls in colder weather or a collection of toys, the park often has small comforts readily available for visiting dogs.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public park amenity, Golden Meadows Dog Park itself is free to use and does not typically offer specific commercial promotions for entry or services. Its value comes from its consistent availability as a free, safe, and engaging space for dogs.

However, due to its strong community ties and its history as a Girl Scout Gold Award project, the park often serves as a venue or focal point for local pet-related events. For example, the Woodland Park Parks and Recreation Department has hosted events like "Bark in the Park" at Golden Meadows Dog Park. These events may feature:

  • Costume Contests: Allowing dogs to show off their best outfits.

  • Best Tricks Contests: Opportunities for dogs to demonstrate their talents.

  • Prizes and Treats: For both dogs and their human companions.

  • Vendor Booths: Sometimes local pet businesses or rescue organizations participate.

These events are excellent opportunities for locals to engage with the dog community, learn about pet services, and enjoy special activities. To find out about upcoming events, it is highly recommended that Woodland Park residents check the official Woodland Park Parks and Recreation website or their social media pages, as well as local community calendars.

Five stars? Really? But it has no grass! And it has no water! I know I know, but it does have two big trees and more importantly than that it has a bunch of little bitty trees and even more importantly than that if you look at the dog park sign it was a girl scout Gold Award winner, it was sponsored by a local bank and a bunch of other local people, dog benches were all donated by somebody in the name of one of their beloved pets oh, and there is even a bench in there that looks like it was donated by a dentist office? Either he had a lot of patients from this dog park or he understands the Loyalty a dog has for its owner and therefore the Loyalty the owner normally has for the people that do things nice for the dog, and the owner, just decided this maybe an incredible way to spend some of his advertising dollars? But anyway, I'm not really from around here no, but if you're moving here and you need to know the name of a good dentist or a good bank I got a couple I can certainly recommend based on my experience with them!! There seem to be plenty of water in all the bowls but you do need to bring some if you can. I didn't know what the little wood boxes were for hanging on the poles with the trash cans, but then I opened the lid and saw the plastic bags inside, hey I saw this small scooper things at the bottom and thought maybe, well, it was a spot for us handicapped people to be able to hahaha no I really did!

The park is basic, there is shade, bring water there is no running water onsite. The best parts are the regulars that are frequent users, both dogs and their owners. Very well maintained porta-potties
