I got to go on a tour with my class! It was very fun, if a bit hot. (There was very little AC.) The guide was friendly and answered all of our questions, even if that meant asking other people when she didn't know the answer. We got to see all kinds of fish: both freshwater and marine. We got to see corals and other invertebrates, too. If you get the chance to go, do!

Segrest Farms Introduce
For local users in and around Gibsonton, Florida, seeking unique experiences related to aquatic life under the platform category "Pet Store Near Me," Segrest Farms offers an intriguing opportunity. Located at 6180 Big Bend Rd, Segrest Farms appears to operate more as an aquatic life cultivation and distribution center that occasionally offers tours, rather than a traditional retail pet store. Based on the available customer reviews, the primary interaction for visitors seems to be through guided tours, providing an educational glimpse into a large-scale aquatic operation.
The environment of Segrest Farms, as depicted by a customer who went on a class tour, is expansive and diverse, housing a wide array of aquatic species. Visitors can expect to see both freshwater and marine fish, along with corals and other invertebrates. The scale of the operation is described as "unbelievable" by one reviewer, suggesting a significant facility dedicated to the cultivation and possibly distribution of aquatic life. However, it's important to note a potential environmental aspect mentioned in a review: limited air conditioning. This suggests that tours, while engaging, might take place in conditions that could become warm, particularly during hotter months in Florida.
The services offered by Segrest Farms, based on the reviews, primarily revolve around guided tours. These tours seem to be educational in nature, catering to groups such as school classes. The tour guide is described as friendly and willing to answer questions, even seeking assistance from others when unsure of an answer. This indicates a commitment to providing informative experiences for visitors interested in learning about different aquatic species and potentially the processes involved in their care or cultivation. While the reviews highlight the tour experience, it's unclear if Segrest Farms directly sells aquatic life or supplies to the general public in the same way a traditional "Pet Store Near Me" would. The focus seems to be more on showcasing the variety of aquatic life present at the facility.
The features of Segrest Farms that stand out are the sheer diversity of aquatic life on display and the opportunity to witness a large-scale operation. The chance to see both freshwater and marine fish, as well as corals and invertebrates, offers a broad overview of different aquatic ecosystems. This hands-on experience, guided by a knowledgeable (albeit occasionally needing to consult colleagues) individual, provides an educational benefit that goes beyond simply viewing animals in tanks at a retail store. The "unbelievable" scale of the operation suggests a significant undertaking, which could be fascinating for those interested in the logistics and scope of aquatic life management.
Considering the categorization as "Pet Store Near Me," local users might be interested in whether Segrest Farms offers any goods for sale. The provided information does not explicitly mention the sale of fish, corals, invertebrates, or aquarium supplies to individual customers. The emphasis on tours suggests that their primary function, at least in terms of public interaction, is educational rather than retail. Therefore, while Segrest Farms might be listed under this category, potential visitors should be aware that it might not operate as a traditional pet store where direct purchases of aquatic life and supplies can be made. It is more likely an opportunity to observe and learn about a wide range of aquatic organisms.
Regarding promotional information, there are no specific promotions mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the positive experiences shared by visitors, particularly the engaging and informative nature of the tours, could be seen as an implicit promotion for others to consider visiting. If Segrest Farms offers tours to the public or to educational groups, the positive feedback regarding the friendly guide and the variety of species seen could encourage others to book a tour. Local schools or community groups looking for educational outings related to marine and freshwater biology might find Segrest Farms to be a valuable resource.
In summary, while listed under "Pet Store Near Me," Segrest Farms in Gibsonton, FL, appears to offer a unique experience centered around guided tours of a large-scale aquatic life facility. Visitors can expect to see a diverse collection of freshwater and marine fish, corals, and invertebrates. The tours are led by a friendly guide who endeavors to answer questions, providing an educational opportunity. However, potential visitors should be aware that the primary offering seems to be the tour experience rather than a traditional retail pet store where purchases of aquatic life and supplies are made. For local users interested in an engaging and educational experience with a wide variety of aquatic species, Segrest Farms could be a worthwhile place to visit if tours are available to the public. It would be advisable to contact Segrest Farms directly at (813) 677-9196 to inquire about the availability of tours, any associated costs, and what to expect during a visit.

Nov 13, 2018 · Remy StevensWow! Great place to tour. The operation is unbelievable!
Jan 23, 2020 · Donna McGrewWhen Segrest was owned by Elwin Segrest, it was a great business, but since Central Pets took over, they have closed their saltwater Tampa facility and the quality of fish coming out of Atlanta is poor at best. I ordered 10 Yellow Coris Wrasses, and 6 were DOA, with three more dying in the next two days. I will be forced to buy from other vendors.
Apr 26, 2023 · James WedelI purchase fish at stores in the local area, and have been in the hobby for years now, so I knew of this place beforehand. It is awesome that the company and staff conduct tours of their facility and operations. It is very interesting to see the processes and how they fulfill orders. It was a great visit and experience!
May 26, 2020 · RossAfter 1 order that mostly died in quarantine in the first 48 hours, I gave then a pass, but the next 2 orders had the same result so I call to ask questions . I was told they keep all their community fish in cold water (71) to avoid bacteria growth. That should tell you enough. No other supplier does this, no retail stores would do this, and no educated hobbyists would do this. I was told I would get a call back from customer service and from their “lab tech” and never received the call. Buy from them at your own risk. No longer will segrest farm fish be sold in my store.
