I would like to bring to your attention the concerning living conditions of the leopard geckos at your store. Currently, there are 12 geckos housed in a small terrarium with inadequate space and only one hide and two small plants for enrichment. This setup does not allow the geckos to escape the elements or access proper shelter. I observed one albino gecko struggling to access the hide due to overcrowding, and as albinos are more vulnerable to burns, this poses a serious risk. Furthermore, the use of calci sand is a known hazard to leopard geckos, as it can lead to impaction. When I raised these concerns with the management and requested an additional hide, I was informed that corporate restrictions prevent improvements. I reached out to Petco corporate, but unfortunately, my concerns were not adequately addressed. While I typically shop at Petsmart due to their better animal care standards, I was unable to find the heat lamp I needed for my own gecko and had to visitf Petco, where I was disappointed to see these poor conditions. I urge you to reconsider the welfare of these animals and make necessary changes to their environment. Their well-being should be a top priority.

Petco Introduce

If you are searching for a "Pet Store Near Me," Petco is located at 2090 S Power Rd, Mesa, AZ 85209, USA. They can be contacted by phone at (480) 854-1550 or mobile phone at +1 480-854-1550.

Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at this Petco location appear to be mixed. One customer raised significant concerns regarding the living conditions of the leopard geckos in the store. They reported observing twelve geckos housed in a small terrarium with inadequate space, limited shelter (one hide and two small plants), and the use of calci sand as substrate, which is known to be a hazard for leopard geckos due to the risk of impaction. This customer also mentioned observing one albino gecko struggling to access the hide due to overcrowding, highlighting a potential risk of burns for this more vulnerable gecko. The customer stated that their concerns raised with the management and a request for an additional hide were met with the explanation of corporate restrictions preventing improvements, and that attempts to address these concerns with Petco corporate were unsuccessful.

In contrast, another reviewer reported "great service" offered at a "more reasonably price" and described the staff as friendly. However, this reviewer also noted a significant negative aspect: extended wait times and standing in line, with no seating available. They mentioned waiting over three hours in the previous year and just over one hour in the current year, emphasizing the difficulty this poses for elderly and infirm customers and suggesting the need for better accommodations.

In summary, while this Petco location in Mesa, AZ, may offer reasonably priced pet supplies and friendly service, potential customers should be aware of a concerning report regarding the living conditions of certain live animals, specifically leopard geckos. Additionally, long wait times without seating have been reported as a significant negative aspect of the customer experience.

Great service which is offered at a more reasonably price. Staff is friendly. The negative is waiting & standing in line for an extended length of time. No seating available. Last year we stood for over 3 hours. This year was just a little over 1 hour. Standing for that length of time is difficult for the elderly and the infirmed. Better accommodations would be great.

EDIT: came back this week and there HAS been some improvements. Cages were much more clean. Aquatics is still struggling but the manager recognizes where they need help and is putting in action to catch up. I hope to continue to see this location to glow & grow! This location needs attention from higher ups! It’s absolutely unacceptable the condition these animals are being left in. The store is clearly dirty and it seems the workers are more concerned with their phones than their jobs. Who knows the last time the caged have been cleaned or animals actually cared for. Step it up PetCo. *pictures is the poor ferrets cage- horrible smell of ammonia coming from it from the amount of urine & poop.

I won’t be bringing my dog to this Vetco vaccine clinic again. My 95lb dog pancaked out of what I’m guessing was fear and anxiety, and the tech started to DRAG him across the floor. Completely unacceptable. Either the doctor or the other tech finally said spoke up and said they could just come to the dog and do the vaccines where he was. The whole process was a nightmare. From the time I checked in, to the time I checked out every vet staff member or Petco employee just seemed off. No one was particularly helpful, friendly or understanding. Shame on the veterinary professional for dragging a scared dog across the floor. Maybe these veterinary professionals should be trained in a fear free approach…

The only reason this store gets a star at all is because the workers were personable. The store felt cramped and dirty. And not just pet store dirty but just felt really dirty. I bought a bag of treats and got home and opened them and they were FULL of flies. The one cashier that was on the register kept going on and on with the key in front of me and it took me more than 10 minutes to check out. Will not be going back. Hard to see all the flies in the photos I've attached but if you shook the bag they all came out of the woodworks and flew out all over the place 🤮
