This store’s aquarium section should be shut down, the fish are always sick: ich in the fish tanks with no signage to warn people, betta fish have skin falling off from ammonia burns and they mix aggressive fish with non-aggressive fish, so many of the fish are ripped to shreds and exhibiting clear signs of stress. Also, they don’t carry ANY medicines for aquariums, so don’t waste your time coming here if you have a sick fish emergency. Close this section completely and stop the animal abuse. The staff have no aquarium expertise, they treat their fish the same as the feeder crickets. They can’t tell me when the last time anyone changed the water in the betta fish cups, they don’t know where or if they have signage to warn people about the communicable diseases in their fish tanks, let alone knowing anything about the diseases like ich and epistylis that are rampant in their tanks, they also don’t know anything about the fish they sell, putting pea puffers in with tetras and gouramis and letting the pea puffers chew their tank mates to death. The aquatic plants are always half dead. Worst pet store in the area by far, it’s a 50% chance that every time I go there for cat or fish needs as to whether they will have what I am looking for, and you have to walk by all the dying and distressed fish every time you enter the store.

Petco Introduce
For pet owners in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and the surrounding areas, Petco located at 380 Patriot Pl is a well-known "Pet Store Near Me" offering a wide range of pet supplies and potentially live animals. However, customer reviews present a starkly contrasting view of the store's operations, particularly concerning its aquarium section, while also offering a more positive perspective on the general store environment and staff. One detailed and highly critical review paints a concerning picture of the aquatic section, while another offers a more favorable overall impression.
One reviewer expresses significant concerns about the welfare of the fish in the store's aquarium section, going so far as to suggest it "should be shut down." Their detailed observations include claims that the fish are "always sick," specifically mentioning the presence of ich in the tanks without any warning signage for customers. They also describe betta fish suffering from "skin falling off from ammonia burns" and the problematic practice of mixing "aggressive fish with non-aggressive fish," allegedly resulting in many fish being "ripped to shreds and exhibiting clear signs of stress." Adding to these concerns, the reviewer states that the store does not carry "ANY medicines for aquariums," advising against visiting in case of a sick fish emergency. The strong language used, such as "animal abuse," underscores the severity of their concerns. The reviewer further criticizes the staff, claiming they have "no aquarium expertise" and treat the fish poorly, comparing their care to that of "feeder crickets." They allege that the staff could not provide basic information such as when the water in the betta fish cups was last changed or if signage about communicable diseases existed. The reviewer also claims the staff lacked knowledge about common fish diseases like ich and epistylis, which they assert are "rampant" in the tanks, and demonstrated a lack of understanding regarding fish compatibility, citing an example of "putting pea puffers in with tetras and gouramis and letting the pea puffers chew their tank mates to death." Finally, they describe the "aquatic plants" as "always half dead" and conclude by labeling Petco as the "worst pet store in the area by far," citing a 50% chance of finding desired items for cats or fish and the unpleasant experience of having to walk by "dying and distressed fish" upon entering the store.
In contrast to this highly negative assessment of the aquarium section, another customer offers a more positive overall experience. This reviewer describes the store as "clean" and "well stocked" with "helpful employees." Their positive feedback extends to the quality of the animals they purchased, specifically mentioning buying a koi "there 6 years ago" that is "still doing great." This long-term success with a live animal purchase stands in stark contrast to the issues raised in the first review regarding the health of the fish currently in the store. The brief and positive nature of this review focuses on the general store environment and staff, without specifically commenting on the aquarium section.
Based on these contrasting reviews, the environment of Petco in Foxborough, MA, appears to have both positive and negative aspects. One reviewer describes a potentially distressing environment within the aquarium section, characterized by sick and stressed fish in poorly maintained tanks, with a lack of necessary medications and knowledgeable staff. This paints a picture of neglect and potential animal welfare concerns within this specific area of the store. On the other hand, another reviewer describes the store generally as "clean" and "well stocked," suggesting that the retail areas outside the aquarium section may be better maintained and organized. The presence of "helpful employees" in the general store area also indicates a potentially positive customer service experience outside of the specialized area of aquatic life.
The services offered at this Petco location likely include the retail sale of a wide variety of pet supplies for different types of animals, including dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, birds, and small animals. This would typically encompass pet food, treats, toys, bedding, grooming supplies, health and wellness products, and enclosures. The presence of an aquarium section suggests the sale of live fish, aquatic plants, and related equipment such as tanks, filters, and lighting. However, one reviewer explicitly states that the store does not carry "ANY medicines for aquariums," which would typically be considered a necessary offering for a pet store selling live fish. The positive review mentions the successful purchase of a koi, indicating that live animals beyond fish may also be sold. As part of a larger chain, this Petco location likely also offers services such as grooming for dogs and cats, and possibly adoption events in partnership with local animal shelters. However, these services are not specifically mentioned in the provided reviews.
Several features of this Petco location can be inferred from the reviews. The existence of a dedicated aquarium section, despite the negative feedback, is a notable feature. The "huge" size often associated with Petco stores suggests a potentially vast selection of products. The presence of both helpful employees in the general store and staff in the aquarium section (albeit described as lacking expertise) indicates a certain level of staffing. The long-term success of a koi purchased six years prior suggests that the store has, at least in the past, sold healthy live animals. However, the current alleged issues with the aquarium section raise concerns about the consistency of animal care and the expertise of the staff in that specific area. The lack of aquarium medications, if accurate, would be a significant negative feature for fish owners.
As part of a national chain, Petco typically has various promotional offers and loyalty programs. These can include discounts on specific brands or product categories, buy-one-get-one-free deals, and exclusive offers for Petco Pals Rewards members. They often have seasonal sales events and promotions around holidays. Information on these promotions is usually available in-store, on the Petco website, and through email newsletters for loyalty program members. However, the provided reviews do not mention any specific promotions at this particular Foxborough location. Local residents are advised to check the Petco website or inquire in-store for any current promotional offers.
In conclusion, Petco in Foxborough, Massachusetts, located at 380 Patriot Pl, presents a mixed picture for local pet owners. While one reviewer describes a clean and well-stocked store with helpful employees and recounts a positive long-term experience with a koi purchased there, another offers a scathing critique of the aquarium section, alleging sick and distressed fish, a lack of necessary medications, and ill-informed staff. This stark contrast suggests potential inconsistencies in the store's operations and animal care standards, particularly within the aquatic department. Local users considering purchasing fish from this location should be aware of the serious concerns raised in one of the reviews. For other pet supplies, the store may offer a more satisfactory experience, as indicated by the positive feedback regarding cleanliness, stock, and general staff helpfulness. It is recommended that potential customers visit the store and assess the conditions themselves, particularly if they are interested in purchasing live fish.

Feb 11, 2025 · John ArchambeaultJacqueline at the Foxboro location is amazing!!! She helped my 12 year old daughter by taking her around the store and explaining to her what our anxious dog needs. My daughter wants to work with animals when she is older so Jacqueline talked to her about what majors and universities to check out. Jacqueline was extremely knowledgeable and patient. My daughter had a wonderful experience.
