completely convinced that the good reviews here were bought. The place is FILTHY and so are the fishes water tanks. There were piles of dead fish in some and a dead beta fish in one of the tiny, basically water cups that they keep them in. The water stunk and looked as if it hasn't been cleaned in a while. or even looked at. It was too late to go into the back, where the birds and other little guys are but the front was depressing enough. Hurt my heart for the animals suffering there. The guy at the reg(idk if owner) was also really dismissive when I came in, I said hello and he just stared. So all in all, if I could rate this place 0 stars I would. It's dirty and a sad environment for these animals. I pray it gets shut down.

Pet Shop Introduce
For local residents in Allston, Massachusetts, and the surrounding areas, Pet Shop, located at 165 Harvard Ave, Allston, MA 02134, USA, serves as a local establishment within the "Pet Store Near Me" category. They can be contacted at (617) 787-0857 or their mobile number +1 617-787-0857. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the pet store based on available customer reviews found online, encompassing aspects of its environment, potential services, features, and any discernible information, while acknowledging the limitations and conflicting perspectives presented in the feedback.
One customer review paints a starkly negative picture of Pet Shop. This reviewer expressed a strong belief that positive reviews might be fabricated, citing the alleged unsanitary conditions of the store. They described the fish tanks as "filthy," noting piles of dead fish in some and a deceased betta fish in a small container with stagnant, foul-smelling water that appeared neglected. This customer's negative impression extended to the overall atmosphere of the front area of the store, which they found "depressing," expressing concern for the well-being of the animals. They also reported a dismissive interaction with a staff member, possibly the owner, upon entering the store. Based on this experience, the reviewer stated they would give the store zero stars if possible, labeling it a dirty and sad environment and hoping for its closure.
In contrast, another customer shared a more nuanced perspective after initially being apprehensive due to reading prior reviews. This reviewer recounted a positive interaction with the owner, whom they found to be knowledgeable and genuinely caring about his animals. They highlighted the owner's willingness to provide detailed histories and care instructions for the animals, contrasting this with the experience of buying from a traditional pet store. This customer also mentioned the friendly and playful nature of the owner's own animals within the shop, including large, friendly dogs and an affectionate cat. While acknowledging the store's small size and the presence of spider webs, dust, and seemingly questionable tanks, this reviewer suggested that judging the store solely on its visual appearance without speaking to the owner would lead to missing out on his evident love for the animals. They specifically mentioned being impressed by the underwater frogs, noting their responsiveness and lack of shyness, which they attributed to the owner's individual attention to each animal. This customer concluded by stating their intention to purchase underwater frogs from the store, indicating a positive overall impression despite the acknowledged cleanliness concerns.
Considering these two contrasting reviews, the environment of Pet Shop appears to be a point of significant contention. One reviewer described it as "filthy" with concerning conditions for the aquatic life, while the other, despite noting issues with cleanliness and the state of the tanks, focused on the positive interaction with the owner and the apparent well-being of some of the animals, attributing this to the owner's care and attention. The size of the store is also mentioned as "wicked small" by one reviewer.
In terms of services and features, the information is limited. However, based on the reviews, Pet Shop seems to offer live animals for sale, including fish (with specific mention of betta fish and underwater frogs), and potentially other animals like birds and small creatures, although the condition of the areas housing these animals was not directly observed by the first reviewer. The second reviewer suggests a personalized approach to selling animals, with the owner providing detailed information and care instructions, which could be considered a unique feature. The presence of the owner's own friendly pets within the store might also contribute to a unique atmosphere for some customers.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users would need to inquire directly with Pet Shop regarding any special offers, pricing, or specific services they might provide beyond the sale of live animals.
For local users considering Pet Shop, it is crucial to weigh these contrasting experiences. The strong negative feedback regarding cleanliness and animal welfare in the fish tanks should be a significant concern. However, the positive interaction with the owner, his apparent knowledge and care for the animals he personally interacts with, and the detailed information he provides about pet care also present a different perspective. The truth likely lies somewhere in between these two accounts, and the overall experience may heavily depend on individual priorities and sensitivities regarding store environment versus the perceived care and knowledge of the owner.
Given the conflicting reports, local users might consider visiting the store themselves to assess the conditions and interact with the owner and staff firsthand. Observing the cleanliness of the animal enclosures, the health and behavior of the animals, and the responsiveness and knowledge of the staff can provide a more informed basis for decision-making. Asking specific questions about the source of the animals, their care protocols, and any health guarantees offered might also be prudent steps.
In conclusion, Pet Shop in Allston, MA, as a "Pet Store Near Me," presents a complex picture based on the limited online reviews. While one review raises serious concerns about the store's cleanliness and the welfare of the animals, particularly the fish, another highlights a positive interaction with a knowledgeable and caring owner and seemingly well-adjusted animals within the shop. Local users are advised to approach with caution, consider visiting the store to form their own judgment, and prioritize the health and well-being of any animals they may consider purchasing. Direct communication with the owner regarding their practices and animal care protocols is highly recommended to reconcile the conflicting feedback and make an informed decision.

Apr 03, 2025 路 Nevaeh JamesAfter reading the reviews I was nervous of going inside - However, after speaking with the owner - he speaks with so much knowledge & care for his animals - Rather than going into am traditional pet store to buy an animal - the owner will give you an history of the animal & each step to take to care for them. His own animals he has in the shop with him are so loving - First walking into the store, being greeted by these "bears" (bear is their name in other languages & they are as big) were so friendly & playful when you take the toy & the cat which my daughter loved followed around to be petted ... very sweet - Yes, the store is wicked small, spider webs, dust everywhere, all the tanks seems a bit questionable - but if you walk in & first impression of only analyzing what you see without speaking to the owner - you will miss out on the love he has for his animals- I will definitely be purchasing some of his underwater frogs they were so excited to follow my finger & not shy away! Proves that he gives each animal attention 馃グ
Jul 29, 2023 路 Tajahnea BellCannot recommend this shop to pet owners/ folks in the market for fish, birds, and small pets enough. I first came in six months ago as a first time puffer fish owner in search of some frozen food and other treats for them. The owner was incredibly personable and helpful in selecting food for my puffers thanks to his decades of expertise. I鈥檝e been an avid betta fish keeper for several years and came in today to pick out a few. I have never ever ever ever ever seen betta fish as happy and as active in any other pet store. As a die hard betta fish lover who鈥檚 often concerned about how exploited the breed is- the amount of thoughtfulness and integrity the owner gives to each of his betta fish is so so so important to me. I will never go to another big box store again. This is my new go to for new scaled babies and supplies.
Aug 31, 2024 路 Tara Sunny WhippleI鈥檓 wondering if the owner is buying positive reviews. The last time I went in here I was shocked to see animals that were so depressed and had no life to them. There were dogs just laying there on the ground with no excitement to see anyone. Dogs are typically so energetic, and this lack of any energy at all was so concerning. Some people will write me off but the energy in there was just horrible. If you know you know. Only come here if you鈥檙e willing to save one of these animals and give them a loving home
Oct 06, 2024 路 Brooke AngellThis little shop is the go to place for exotic animals. I went here after looking all over for sugar glider breeders and The Pet Shop was recommended to me. We went in and were allowed to look at and play with all of the sugar gliders they had and ended up leaving with 2. They came home very docile and tamed which we were not expecting. Their animals are very well taken care of before going home with you. I was shocked at how many different exotic species they had there and I would recommend to anyone to go there. They are a smaller store and a bit cramped, but if the end result is a happy and healthy pet then I'm okay with it. I haven't priced other animals, but their sugar gliders were priced below average. I am happy to promote a small local business like this!
