Stopped in today after noticing the sign out front with a macaw that caught my eye. I was immediately surprised - in the best way - to see an unchained macaw perched on a branch stand in the center of the store, with smaller parrots flying freely between various perches around the upper portions of the store. In my 23 years of visiting pet stores across California, I have never seen animals more well cared for with such evident love, attention, and hard work than I have here at Exotic Pets 701. Though I didn’t spend a single dime, one of the lovely owners still took the time to speak with me and answer my questions at length. I felt genuinely valued as a guest, even after making it clear I was only there to look around. This store is a shining testament to how EVERY pet store should operate - from the incredible treatment of their animals to the courtesy they provide their visitors. The family running Exotic Pets 701 should feel immensely proud. After leaving, I was shocked - in the worst way - to see the negative reviews left for this business. I couldn’t understand how anyone could see things differently from what I had just experienced. Looking into the one-star reviews, it quickly became obvious the store has been targeted by a review bomber. Eight out of fifteen total Google reviews follow the same template, using identical buzzwords and false claims. Even on Yelp, one of their three reviews fits this same pattern. As someone who has been a lifelong animal lover, is actively pursuing a degree in zoology, and has years of experience working hands-on with wildlife, I can confidently say these negative claims are entirely inaccurate. • The birds are in no danger. Some reviews claim that macaws are predatorily dangerous to other birds, which is absurd. Macaws are not predators - they primarily eat fruit, nuts, and seeds. The only animal protein they consume in the wild comes from insects, and even that is rare. • Birds are not randomly mixed together. Individuals that don’t get along are housed separately, and when birds are let out for exercise, they are released strategically to prevent conflicts. • The cages are temporary. While someone could argue the cages are small, the store itself is upfront that these are only temporary enclosures until the birds are adopted. More importantly, they do not spend their lives in these cages - they are given regular out-of-cage time, which is virtually unheard of in pet stores. • There is no lack of food or water. In fact, the birds are provided with an outstanding diet. They are fed a variety of fresh fruits daily, with pellet mixes used only as a supplement. This was evident to anyone with eyes - I personally saw fresh fruit in the cages, and even the free-roaming macaw had fresh food and filtered water at his stand. I really appreciated hearing that they use filtered water, as I do the same for my own animals, and few pet owners - let alone pet stores - take this extra step. • The birds available for purchase are not just babies. The youngest birds are already mature enough to have their full adult plumage. • And speaking of feathers - the birds are fully feathered, happy, and healthy. Birds are highly intelligent animals with complex emotional needs, and one of the most common signs of stress or neglect is feather plucking. None of the birds at Exotic Pets 701 showed signs of this. It is truly disheartening to see such an outstanding business suffer due to dishonest review bombing. Their rating does not reflect reality. I encourage anyone reading this to visit Exotic Pets 701 for themselves and see firsthand the level of care these animals receive. If you have a positive experience, please consider leaving a review to help counteract the unfair negativity.

Exotic Pets 701 inc Introduce
Welcome to Exotic Pets 701 inc, your local Pet Store Near Me, located at 514 McHenry Ave, Modesto, CA 95354, USA. We specialize in exotic birds and aim to provide a unique experience for both enthusiasts and those looking to find a feathered companion. You can reach us at (323) 345-3810 or +1 323-345-3810.
Our store environment is described by a visitor as unlike typical pet stores. You might find an unchained macaw perched centrally, with smaller parrots flying freely within designated areas. This suggests a focus on providing more open and engaging spaces for the birds compared to traditional enclosures. The owners are reported to be attentive and demonstrate evident care and hard work in managing the animals.
A notable feature highlighted by a visitor is the exceptional treatment of the animals. This includes providing regular out-of-cage time for the birds, which is uncommon in many pet stores. The birds are reportedly fed a varied diet including fresh fruits daily, supplemented with pellet mixes, and are provided with filtered water. Contrary to some negative claims found online, observations suggest that birds that do not get along are housed separately, and interactions are managed to prevent conflicts. Additionally, the birds available for purchase are described as mature enough to have their full adult plumage and appear to be healthy, with no signs of stress-induced feather plucking.
While one online review presents a contrasting negative view, alleging cramped conditions and potential endangerment of smaller birds by macaws, another detailed review strongly refutes these claims. This positive account suggests that the negative reviews may be part of a targeted review bombing campaign, citing similar templates and false claims across multiple platforms. This positive reviewer, with a background in zoology and wildlife experience, confidently asserts the accuracy of their positive observations regarding the care and environment at Exotic Pets 701 inc.
Given the conflicting information online, we encourage local users to visit Exotic Pets 701 inc to experience the store firsthand and make their own informed judgment about the environment and care provided to the animals. If you have a positive experience, consider leaving a review to share your perspective. For any inquiries or to learn more about the birds currently available, please contact us at (323) 345-3810.

Mar 09, 2025 · Cody SerratosIf I could give this place a Zero star I would. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. Their birds are in way too small cages and those cages have been put on the floor. these birds are cramped and stressed out far past any normal amount. The owner has no empathy for living creatures and just wants to make money. There are macaws out of cages in the same room as many different breeds of young, small, birds. Macaws are predators and should NEVER be kept in the same room as non-macaws. They stock almost ENTIRELY baby birds who do not deserve to grow up in such a dangerous and abusive environment. This is not good for the birds and significantly shortens their life span. These birds are being treated like objects instead of living, breathing, feeling, creatures. This establishment deserves to be put out of business because of the blatant animal abuse.
Feb 22, 2025 · Celestial OrbitStopped by this morning, I was impressed with how clean the store is. I only have 1 cockatiel and I know how messy they can be! Friendly staff, the birds all look pretty healthy too. All had clean water and fresh food! Will def stop by again to purchase all my birds needs.
Mar 25, 2025 · V SThis store sold me a sick bird that died within a few days. Unfortunately they don’t care about their birds and just only want to make a profit. I wish they would have at least a couple weeks of guarantee. Definitely would not go back to that place as I’m sure more of their animals are sick.
Feb 21, 2025 · David Valencia‼️DO NOT SHOP HERE‼️the birds are being kept in cages that are way too small and they're are birds in cages on the floor. ON TOP OF THAT there is hardly any food and no water in the cages!!!!! Not to mention there are macaws roaming free in the same room as the other birds, which is horrible as macaws are predators, and are showing predatory behavior!!!!!! Plus majority of the birds are babies, and will either suffer a shorter lifespan from all the stress of their living conditions, or die from this negligence.
