This vet hospital sees my mom’s dogs and I figured I’d give them try since they’re closer than my current vet. My old man coonhound can be nervous and “spicy” at the vet, but he didn’t go over threshold once during this visit. The staff is professional, patient and wants your pet to have a successful visit. I am still blown away at how well this visit went for Zeke. The technician, I think her name was Samantha but I’m not positive, was so great. She was quick and efficient getting patient information and she nailed Zeke’s blood draw on the first try in the exam room. Thank you again for such a positive experience for my old man.

Environment and Approach to Care

The environment at VCA Riverside Veterinary Hospital is designed to be modern, clean, and equipped with up-to-date technology, fostering a professional yet compassionate atmosphere. Their commitment to pet comfort is a distinguishing feature, particularly for animals prone to anxiety during vet visits. A glowing customer review highlights this, noting how a "nervous and 'spicy' old man coonhound" had an incredibly successful visit, not going "over threshold once." This remarkable outcome is attributed to the staff's professionalism, patience, and dedication to ensuring a positive experience for every pet. The swift and efficient handling of a blood draw in the exam room further exemplifies their skilled approach to minimizing stress for animals.

The hospital is also recognized as an AAHA-accredited animal hospital, signifying their voluntary adherence to over 900 rigorous standards across 18 different areas of veterinary care, including quality of care, diagnostics, pharmacy, management, medical records, and facility. This accreditation underscores their commitment to the highest quality of medicine and patient care. Furthermore, VCA Riverside Veterinary Hospital is a Cat Friendly Practice®, indicating their efforts to create an environment that reduces stress for feline patients and their caregivers, reflecting specialized understanding of cat behavior and needs.

Comprehensive Services Offered

As a full-service "Pet Hospital," VCA Riverside Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive range of medical services to ensure the long-term health and well-being of dogs, cats, and even pocket pets. Their offerings include both routine preventive care and advanced medical and surgical procedures:

  • Wellness & Preventive Medicine: This includes thorough annual exams, customized vaccination protocols based on a pet's lifestyle, parasite prevention and control, and nutritional counseling to support optimal health at every life stage.

They also perform in-house laboratory testing for quick and accurate results, aiding in prompt diagnosis and treatment.

  • Pet Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are provided, including professional dental cleanings, extractions, and advanced periodontal care, essential for preventing systemic health issues related to poor oral hygiene.

  • Surgical Services: A wide array of surgical procedures are performed, ranging from routine surgeries like spays and neuters to more complex procedures, including soft tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery. They prioritize patient safety and pain management during all surgical interventions.

  • Cold Laser Therapy: This non-invasive therapeutic option is available for pain management, wound healing, and reducing inflammation for various conditions such as arthritis, post-surgical recovery, and injuries.

Features and Client Experiences

The professionalism, patience, and dedication of the staff are consistently highlighted as key features of VCA Riverside Veterinary Hospital. The ability to handle nervous pets with such grace, as demonstrated with "Zeke" the coonhound, speaks volumes about their expertise in fear-free handling techniques and their genuine concern for animal welfare. The efficiency of the technicians, like "Samantha" who nailed a blood draw on the first try, contributes to a smooth and less stressful visit for pets and owners alike.

However, it is important to acknowledge that customer experiences can vary. One review expressed significant dissatisfaction regarding perceived overcharging for a short appointment and medication, as well as the separate cost for a protective cone. This feedback points to concerns about pricing transparency and value perception. While the hospital aims to provide comprehensive care, potential clients should always discuss estimated costs and itemized charges upfront to ensure alignment with their expectations.

VCA Riverside Veterinary Hospital emphasizes a commitment to "hometown care," implying a personal touch despite being part of a large network. They aim to know every client by name and treat pets like family, fostering strong relationships built on trust and excellent communication. They also boast a wide assortment of retail and pet food options, aiming to be a true "full-service" veterinary hospital.

I spent $295 on an appointment for my cat. Mind you that appointment was 10 minutes long They didn't do anything for her other than poke and prod at her overcharged me for simple antibiotics that I could have bought off of Amazon for a quarter of the price And then didn't even give me a cone So she wouldn't wipe the antibiotic off of her eye which obviously she's a cat so that should have been included But of course it's not even though the appointment was 295$ They want another $6.18 for the cone. This place could not care less about your animal. All they care about is money. This place is a rip off and I will not be back If I could give it zero stars and still post a review I would

I brought my dog here. They were efficient and fast, also very friendly. As far as the dog is concerned, she hates it, like most critters do, but I'm happy.

This was my first time here with my cat Nicky. Everyone was professional, but more importantly, kind. My cat remained chill during his exam, which is partly due to his perfection, but also because of the calm manner and gentle handling by the staff. It was a pricey trip but Nicky needed an x-ray which was not cheap, otherwise I think their prices are competitive with where I went previously. Glad I moved to a place where I have reliable care for my cats when I need it and only a mile or so away.

I have never had an issue with this get until today! My boyfriend brought our dog in today for a checkup because he had an ear infection. Our dog is a purebred pitbull. He has been to this vet before and had no issues with anyone ever, no staff, no other animals he’s a great dog. He’s 2 years old and just a love bug. My boyfriend was talking to a lady at the front desk on the way out and the lady behind her made an awful comment while he was talking about our other dog at home. She struggles with food aggression, but it is handled in a very appropriate way at home, and no fights have ever occurred. What he was talking about with the First Lady, had nothing to do with the woman behind her but she had something to say about “pitbulls”, not even just a random breed, our dogs breed. She made a comment about how food aggression occurs and it’s the owners fault. Which is not okay! Animals are all born different pitbull or not! Some have issues some don’t! When is it okay and appropriate to speak to a customer this way and have an input and justify that it is just a pitbull thing because they’re “bad dogs”. Then this lady proceeds to give my boyfriend a printed paper, and tells him to read it. She printed out a page on “possessive aggression in dogs” after profiling a pitbull. This vet is no longer safe or okay.
