I have brought my pets here for 8+ years and have a long background in veterinary medicine myself as a previous vet tech of 10 years. I previously believed their service was stellar. Recently over the last year I have seen lots of other complaints from clients about quality of care going downhill and finally have begun to clearly see this myself. I previously worked as a vet tech for 10 years, and am familiar with policies of most vet hospitals and normal procedures. My pet was denied care during an emergency that is absolutely something any typical vet hospital can handle because "they did not have an appointment opening" Ethics classes in veterinary medicine teach you that for regular clients with whom you have an established Doctor/Patient relationship when there is an emergency you are ethically obligated to see the patient, and common sense would dictate that an emergency holds priority over vaccine and wellness visits. Additionally, I have received incorrect orders in medications and spoke with the manager Kate who also agreed it was incorrect and could not offer any real reason as to why. Recently, 8 veterinary technicians left this hospital which leads some to wonder what is so wrong there that swathes of staff are leaving all together? The hold times on the phone are insane. Frequently going to voicemail during regular business hours and even when the hospital is open, their machine picks up instead of ringing. The hospital is simply not functioning anymore, vets have left and their quality of care has dropped to a point where I no longer hold confidence in their abilities, skill, knowledge or care which is sad as I have promoted them loyally for MANY years, even disputing other posts on social media calling them out for similar issues. I am hugely disappointed that our veterinary family has treated us so poorly, and we will now be pulling our entire pet family off of their care list and seeking care elsewhere. Shame on you, Plainfield Animal Hospital. Look inwards and do better for your clients and long-time loyal customers.

Welcome to VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital
Welcome to VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital, a Pet Hospital located at 1100 Norwich Rd, Plainfield, CT 06374, USA, serving the pet care needs of Plainfield, Connecticut, and the surrounding areas. You can contact them at (860) 564-7177 or via mobile at +1 860-564-7177 for inquiries or to schedule appointments. VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital aims to provide veterinary services for your beloved animal companions.
Based on recent feedback from pet owners, experiences at VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital appear to be varied. One long-term client, who has been bringing their pets to this facility for over eight years and has a background as a veterinary technician with ten years of experience, has expressed significant disappointment with the recent decline in the quality of care. This reviewer, who previously held the service in high regard, notes a shift in their perception over the past year, aligning with complaints from other clients regarding a perceived downturn in service quality.
A particularly concerning experience shared by this reviewer involves their pet being denied emergency care. According to their account, the hospital cited a lack of appointment openings as the reason for refusal, despite the issue being described as an emergency that a typical veterinary hospital should be able to handle. The reviewer, drawing upon their veterinary technician background and knowledge of veterinary ethics, points out the ethical obligation to provide care for established patients during emergencies, emphasizing that emergencies should typically take precedence over routine appointments like vaccinations and wellness visits.
Further concerns raised include instances of incorrect medication orders. The reviewer states that upon speaking with the manager, Kate, the error was acknowledged without a clear explanation. This raises questions about the pharmacy protocols and attention to detail in dispensing medications, which is a critical aspect of veterinary care to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
Adding to these concerns is the reported departure of a significant number of veterinary technicians, with eight technicians allegedly leaving the hospital recently. Such a substantial staff turnover within a short period can potentially impact the continuity and quality of care provided, leading to speculation about underlying issues within the hospital's work environment or management.
The reviewer also highlights significant issues with the hospital's phone system, reporting "insane" hold times and frequent calls going to voicemail, even during regular business hours when the hospital is supposedly open. This breakdown in communication can create frustration and anxiety for pet owners trying to reach the hospital for urgent matters, appointments, or follow-up care.
In summary, this detailed account from a long-term client with veterinary experience paints a picture of a veterinary hospital that, in their opinion, is "simply not functioning anymore." They express a loss of confidence in the abilities, skill, knowledge, and care provided by VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital, a stark contrast to their previous loyal promotion of the facility. Consequently, they have decided to seek veterinary care for their pets elsewhere, urging the hospital to look inwards and improve its services for both current and long-time customers.
However, it is important to present a balanced view by also considering other feedback. In contrast to the negative experience detailed above, another reviewer shared a highly positive experience, describing it as "one of the best Vet experiences I’ve ever had!" This customer brought their puppy in for its first check-up and was impressed by the kindness of all the staff, even though it was near the end of the day. They enthusiastically recommend VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital to anyone seeking a veterinarian in the area, indicating that some clients are indeed having positive interactions with the clinic.
Given these contrasting reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive assessment of the current environment, services, and features of VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital. Potential clients should be aware of the concerns raised by some long-term customers regarding the quality of care, emergency protocols, medication accuracy, staff turnover, and communication issues. At the same time, it is also important to acknowledge that some clients have had very positive experiences with the staff and services.
As a Pet Hospital, VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital likely offers a range of standard veterinary services, which typically include routine wellness exams, vaccinations, diagnostic testing (such as blood work and imaging), surgical procedures, dental care, and treatment for illnesses and injuries. However, the recent negative feedback raises questions about the consistency and reliability of these services.
Information regarding the specific environment of the hospital (e.g., cleanliness, comfort of waiting areas, facilities) is not provided in the reviews. Similarly, there is no mention of any specific features that might distinguish VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital from other veterinary clinics in the area.
No promotional information, such as discounts for new clients, wellness plans, or special offers, is mentioned in the provided text. Individuals interested in learning about any such promotions should contact the hospital directly.
In conclusion, VCA Plainfield Animal Hospital in Plainfield, CT, is a Pet Hospital that has received mixed reviews recently. While one long-term client with veterinary experience reports a significant decline in the quality of care, leading to serious concerns about emergency protocols, medication accuracy, staff turnover, and communication, another client describes a very positive experience with the kindness of the staff during a puppy's first check-up. Potential clients are advised to consider these contrasting viewpoints and perhaps conduct their own inquiries or visit the facility to form their own informed opinion about the level of care and service provided at this time. The reported issues warrant careful consideration, while positive experiences suggest that satisfactory service may still be possible for some clients.

Dec 19, 2024 · Cynthia Christine's worldWe have been with this vet for years, Dr.Gilmore is exceptional always. The receptionist aren’t always the nicest but the vets and vet techs are all very friendly and helpful. They’re very patient if you have an animal that is shy or aggressive as well.

May 13, 2025 · Robert KnottsI just want to say thank you to Dr. Gilmore. We brought our cat here for a second opinion after a not so friendly visit to another local vet. Dr Gilmore was very very thorough. She took the time to answer any and all of our questions and explained everything start to finish. The compassion she had for our cat was unmatched. Although the diagnosis was still hard , she made us feel much better about our decisions going forward. Since our initial visit we’ve come back for another check up with even more questions and to seek her professional opinion. She was extremely honest with us and upfront. As we near the end of life for our cat I am so grateful we have had the chance to have her care for our cat. We will be switching all of our pets to this vet & office. I can’t say enough good about Dr Gilmore and her team.
