They sat on our paperwork so long that we had to pay almost $10,000 to have our pets shipped. If you mandate a ten day limit on paperwork, you’d better be efficient and this department is anything but that. I hope they are subject to reforms.

Welcome to USDA APHIS Veterinary Services
USDA APHIS Veterinary Services, located at 1111 Deming Way #100, Madison, WI 53717, USA, operates within the broader context of a "Pet Hospital" in that it deals with animal health; however, its role is distinct from a traditional veterinary clinic providing direct medical care to individual pets. Instead, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Veterinary Services is a governmental agency responsible for safeguarding animal health, ensuring safe and humane handling of animals, and facilitating the interstate and international movement of animals and animal products. Therefore, when local users in the Madison area encounter this listing under the "Pet Hospital" category, it's essential to understand the specific services and functions this office performs.
Given its regulatory nature, the environment of the USDA APHIS Veterinary Services office is likely an administrative setting rather than a clinical one. It would primarily serve as a point of contact for individuals needing to comply with federal regulations related to animal movement. This might involve interactions with staff for document processing, consultations on import and export requirements, and potentially the endorsement of health certificates. Unlike a typical pet hospital, you would not likely find examination rooms for pets or facilities for medical procedures.
The services provided by USDA APHIS Veterinary Services in Madison primarily revolve around regulatory functions that enable the movement of animals across state and international borders. Based on the customer reviews, a key service involves the processing of paperwork required for pet travel. This includes reviewing and potentially endorsing health certificates issued by private veterinarians to ensure they meet the requirements of the destination. The agency also serves as a point of contact for answering questions related to animal import and export regulations, as one customer noted receiving "prompt responses through email as well as callbacks" and finding the staff "very quick at responding" to inquiries and document requests.
However, one review highlighted a significant issue with the efficiency of the paperwork processing, stating that delays caused a substantial financial burden for shipping pets. This suggests that while the intention is to facilitate animal movement, there can be instances where the process is not as smooth or timely as expected. This feedback is crucial for local users who may be relying on this office for time-sensitive international or interstate pet travel arrangements.
A notable feature, as indicated by one positive review, is the agency's responsiveness and helpfulness in navigating the often complex regulations of international pet travel. The customer who traveled their dog to various countries praised the prompt communication and the efficiency in receiving necessary documents. This suggests that when the process works effectively, the USDA APHIS Veterinary Services can be a valuable resource for pet owners undertaking international travel with their animals.
Conversely, the negative review points to a potential lack of efficiency in processing paperwork, which can have significant consequences for pet owners. The mandated ten-day limit mentioned in the review likely refers to specific timeframes for certain health certifications, making the timely processing by APHIS crucial. When these timelines are not met, it can lead to increased costs and stress for the pet owners involved.
Given the regulatory nature of this government agency, promotional information in the traditional sense of discounts or special offers for services is unlikely to be applicable. The fees associated with their services, such as endorsements of health certificates, are typically set by government regulations rather than being subject to promotional campaigns. Therefore, local users should not expect to find typical "pet hospital" promotions here.
In conclusion, USDA APHIS Veterinary Services in Madison, WI, serves a critical but distinct role within the realm of animal health. It functions as a regulatory body facilitating the movement of animals across borders by processing necessary paperwork and providing guidance on relevant regulations. While one customer praised their prompt and helpful service for international pet travel, another reported significant delays in paperwork processing that resulted in substantial costs. Local users needing to utilize these services should be aware of these potentially varying experiences. For those planning interstate or international pet travel, contacting the office directly at (608) 662-0630 or +1 608-662-0630 to understand the specific requirements and processing times for their situation is highly recommended. While not a traditional pet hospital offering medical care, USDA APHIS Veterinary Services plays a vital role in ensuring the health and safe movement of animals, and understanding its function is crucial for local pet owners involved in animal transport.

Mar 10, 2025 · David GulbrandI have traveled my dog to various countries and have always received prompt responses through email as well as callbacks. Any questions I have had they have been very quick at responding as well as sending back the documents. They have excellent service and are very nice
Oct 22, 2024 · Carla G RodriguezThis office (along with the IL office) is amazing! They responded to my questions about bringing my dog to Italy very quickly via email. Their vet endorsed my documents on the first day of the 10-day window and shipped my paperwork back SAME DAY. I travel in a week and having my documents this early is such a huge relief — thank you so so much! P.S. I noticed a lot of the negative reviews for all APHIS offices seem to mainly be due to user error. Read the instructions carefully, then re-read 5 more times, check your paperwork, and you'll be fine! My vet and I prepped this paperwork way in advance and everything was endorsed without a hitch. ;)
Mar 08, 2023 · Tania SpezzaMe and my cat are moving to Taiwan and the whole ordeal has been a 1.5yr long fiasco. But finally we are both going to Taiwan! I thank this team so much for helping me so diligently. I was only in the US for 7 days, so my time and resources were limited. They put forth maximum effort to assist, and I’m so thankful. They respond very well to calls/vms and are not only knowledgeable, but caring.
Jan 27, 2022 · Stephanie IngmireVery helpful staff. I was in a pinch to get some paperwork filed and they were very understanding and courteous even though I was having trouble and probably called/emailed them about 10 times.
