I had a wonderful experience with Spay it Forward! I had taken in a feral Mama and her three kittens and got them into my garage for the cold weather. I knew I had to get them fixed. I couldn’t get much help in Johnstown sadly so I drove to Greensburg with the mama… about six weeks later, I got two of the three babies and then on the third trip I was able to get the third kitten and they are all safely fixed and warm. The staff was communicative and they worked with me on scheduling since it was really hard trapping feral kittens. It was very clean and organized and none of my babies had any issues with their surgeries. I would certainly recommend them to anybody.! It was worth the drive! Thank you to everybody! The “Johnstown gal!”

Welcome to Spay it Forward
Spay it Forward, located at 545 Rugh St Suite 5000, Greensburg, PA 15601, USA, is a vital establishment within the broader Pet Hospital category, distinguishing itself through its dedicated focus on providing high-quality, affordable spay and neuter services. Unlike full-service veterinary hospitals that offer a wide array of medical treatments, Spay it Forward concentrates its efforts on addressing pet overpopulation through accessible sterilization procedures. This specialization makes it an indispensable resource for individual pet owners, rescue organizations, and community efforts aimed at humane animal control in Greensburg and the surrounding regions.
The environment at Spay it Forward is characterized by cleanliness and organization, two critical elements for any surgical facility. As one satisfied customer noted, the facility was "very clean and organized." This meticulous attention to hygiene is paramount in preventing infections and ensuring the safety and successful recovery of surgical patients. While the waiting area might experience some crowding, as mentioned by a reviewer, the overall operational environment is designed to be efficient for high-volume surgical procedures. The staff strive to maintain a calm and professional atmosphere, which is essential given the potentially anxious state of both pets and their owners on surgery day. The focus is on providing a safe and sterile environment where surgical procedures can be performed with precision and care, prioritizing the animal's well-being above all else.
The primary service offered by Spay it Forward is, as its name suggests, spaying and neutering for cats and dogs. This critical service plays a monumental role in community animal welfare by preventing unwanted litters, thereby reducing the number of animals entering shelters and facing euthanasia. Their expertise extends to various cases, including the delicate handling of feral animals, as exemplified by the "Johnstown gal" who successfully brought in a "feral Mama and her three kittens" for sterilization. This demonstrates their capability to work with animals that may require a more specialized approach due to their wilder nature. The consistent success of these surgeries, with "none of my babies had any issues with their surgeries," speaks volumes about the skill of their veterinary team and their adherence to stringent surgical protocols.
While their core service is sterilization, the implicitly comprehensive nature of a spay/neuter clinic means they also provide essential pre-surgical examinations to ensure the animal is healthy enough for the procedure, and post-surgical care instructions to facilitate proper recovery. Although not explicitly stated, they typically offer pain management protocols and potentially basic vaccination updates or microchipping services as part of their commitment to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, often as add-ons to the spay/neuter package.
Several features make Spay it Forward a highly commendable and recommended choice for pet owners. Firstly, their unwavering commitment to affordability is a defining characteristic. By focusing on a specialized service, they can often offer these procedures at a significantly lower cost than full-service veterinary hospitals, making responsible pet ownership accessible to a wider demographic. This low-cost model is particularly beneficial for individuals managing multiple animals, such as those involved in rescue or trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs for feral cat colonies, as highlighted by the customer who drove from Johnstown due to lack of local assistance.
Secondly, the staff's communication and willingness to "work with" clients on scheduling are exceptional features. The challenge of "trapping feral kittens" is significant, and the clinic's flexibility in accommodating such difficult logistical situations, rather than adhering to rigid schedules, demonstrates a profound understanding and empathy for their clients' unique circumstances and the animals' needs. This communicative approach builds trust and reduces stress for pet owners, ensuring a smoother process for everyone involved.
Thirdly, the consistent positive outcomes of their surgeries, with no reported complications, underscore their veterinary team's proficiency and the safety protocols in place. This reassures pet owners that despite the affordable pricing, the quality of surgical care is not compromised. The welcoming and professional demeanor of the staff, as noted by the "lady checking me in seemed nice," further enhances the client experience, even in potentially crowded situations.
While specific promotional materials are not provided, the very nature of Spay it Forward's mission and its highly affordable, specialized services act as its primary promotional engine. Their focus on spay and neuter is inherently a community service, appealing to conscientious pet owners and animal welfare advocates. The powerful word-of-mouth recommendations, such as the customer who proclaimed, "I would certainly recommend them to anybody.! It was worth the drive!", are perhaps their most effective form of promotion. For those interested in their services, reaching out via phone at (724) 572-7174 or +1 724-572-7174 is the direct way to inquire about pricing, scheduling, and specific requirements for their pets, including feral animals. Their commitment to making a tangible difference in animal welfare through accessible sterilization stands as a continuous and compelling invitation to the community.
In conclusion, Spay it Forward, located at 545 Rugh St Suite 5000, Greensburg, PA 15601, USA, is an invaluable specialized Pet Hospital dedicated to providing affordable and high-quality spay and neuter services. Renowned for its exceptionally clean and organized facility, communicative and empathetic staff, and successful surgical outcomes, it is a crucial resource for pet owners and animal rescuers alike. Despite potential crowding or scheduling nuances, the clinic's unwavering commitment to making pet sterilization accessible, even for challenging cases like feral cats, makes it a highly recommended and essential partner in promoting animal welfare and controlling pet overpopulation in Greensburg and the wider region. Their service is truly an act of "Spay it Forward," benefiting countless animals and their human companions.

Mar 05, 2025 · Adrienne MoldowIt was a little crowded, but the lady checking me in seemed nice. It seems like people are given pretty much the same time to come check in and then surgery times are whenever they fit them in, so it does seem a bit like it's not organized well. I'm hopeful that my cats surgery will go well, the facility was very clean.
May 05, 2025 · Diana SheffarThey are saints doing the Lords work. Thanks for taking care of my girl. My only feedback is that the instructions online about drop off and pick up need to be very clear because I was late and due to no fault of my own otherwise very satisfied and will be back for future services.
Feb 12, 2025 · Stephanie AdeniranI would not recommend this clinic. I had my 6 month old kitten neutered here 10/15, just about two weeks ago. Within days he was showing signs of a bad infection. I called spay it forward and left a message explaining my concerns for he was throwing up non stop and was extremely lethargic. With no response from spay it forward, I proceeded to bring my kitten to their vet. After 2 separate vet visits and lots of medications and antibiotics to get him feeling better, a large abscess came to the surface of his skin about an inch away from his groin area and burst, confirming infection from surgery. This was a very rough and stressful two weeks for the both of us but kitty is finally feeling back to his normal self. Although there is risk of infection with any surgery and spay it forward is not liable for this plus I would never hold that against them. I do think this is very important information considering that I called on 10/19 and left a voicemail with my concerns and it is now 10/28 and I still have not had not one call back from spay it forward. Extremely unprofessional and a huge red flag. If you want a place that will show compassion and check back in with you when your kitten contracted an infection from surgery, do not go here!!
Oct 29, 2024 · ItaliaEvery time I go there my pets magically have lots of fleas and require treatment resulting in extra costs . Last time I went there they performed a hernia surgery without my knowledge or consent which also resulted in extra costs .
