We are heartbroken after the loss of our cat, Toby, following a visit to this clinic. Toby had a minor gum infection, and the clinic administered antibiotics, additional shots, and a steroid injection. However, we were not informed about the potential risks of steroids or how severely they could impact a cat’s health. After the visit, Toby became extremely lethargic. We called the clinic and were advised to bring him back for IV treatment, but his condition worsened. Just before Thanksgiving, we had to rush him to an emergency vet, where he sadly passed away within minutes. My daughter, who was very close to Toby, has been devastated and is questioning every decision made for his care. I reached out to the clinic hoping for some explanation or insight to help bring her some closure. Despite being told the doctor would call me back, it has now been three days with no response. This experience has left us feeling not only heartbroken but also disappointed by the lack of communication and care from this facility. If you choose to bring your pet here, I urge you to ask detailed questions about every treatment and its potential side effects. Don’t rely solely on the clinic’s recommendations—advocate for your pet's well-being. We truly feel let down and hope no one else has to endure what we have.

Welcome to South Shores Pet Clinic
This introduction provides an overview of South Shores Pet Clinic, a Pet Hospital located at 2318 S Western Ave, San Pedro, CA 90732, USA. They can be contacted at (310) 832-5327 or their mobile number, +1 310-832-5327. It is important to present an objective picture based on the information available, which in this case primarily consists of customer reviews detailing their experiences.
One detailed review recounts a deeply upsetting experience following the loss of a cat named Toby. According to the review, Toby was brought to the clinic for a minor gum infection. The clinic administered antibiotics, additional unspecified shots, and a steroid injection. The pet owner reports that they were not informed about the potential risks associated with steroid use in cats or the severity of potential side effects. Following the visit, Toby became very lethargic. After a call to the clinic, the owner was advised to bring Toby back for IV treatment; however, his condition reportedly worsened. Tragically, Toby was rushed to an emergency vet shortly before Thanksgiving and passed away within minutes.
The reviewer expresses profound heartbreak, particularly for their daughter who was very close to Toby, and feelings of disappointment regarding the care provided. They also mention attempting to contact the clinic for an explanation to help with closure but had not received a return call after three days. This customer strongly urges other pet owners to ask detailed questions about every treatment and its potential side effects and to actively advocate for their pet's well-being, rather than solely relying on the clinic's recommendations. The review concludes with a sentiment of feeling let down and a hope that others will not have to endure a similar experience.
Another review specifically advises against taking rabbits to South Shores Pet Clinic. This pet owner brought their rabbit in a month prior to writing the review. At that time, the clinic reportedly checked the rabbit's teeth and stated everything was fine. However, when the owner subsequently took their rabbit to their local hospital clinic for vaccinations, it was discovered that the rabbit needed emergency teeth surgery and had apparently been in this condition for at least three to four months. The reviewer expressed relief that the issue was discovered before an infection developed and suggests that South Shores Pet Clinic should stop offering services they cannot adequately provide.
Based on these two customer reviews, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of the environment, services, and features of South Shores Pet Clinic in a positive light. The reviews raise concerns regarding the thoroughness of examinations for certain animals (rabbits) and the communication about potential risks associated with treatments (steroids for cats). The absence of a follow-up call in a case of a pet's death, as reported in one review, also suggests potential issues with client communication and support in difficult situations.
As a Pet Hospital, South Shores Pet Clinic likely offers a range of veterinary services. Based on the reviews, these services appear to include the treatment of infections (gum infection in a cat), the administration of injections (antibiotics, steroids, and unspecified shots), dental checks (for rabbits), and potentially IV treatments. However, the differing experiences highlight the importance for pet owners to be proactive in seeking information and advocating for their animals.
The features of South Shores Pet Clinic that can be inferred from these reviews are that they do accept different types of pets, including cats and rabbits. They offer medical treatments, including the use of antibiotics and steroids, and perform examinations. However, the reviews suggest potential limitations in their expertise with certain animals, such as rabbits, and in their communication regarding treatment risks and follow-up with concerned pet owners.
There is no promotional information available in the provided text. Instead, the reviews serve as cautionary tales for potential clients. These accounts emphasize the need for pet owners to be well-informed and actively involved in their pet's care.
In conclusion, the available information regarding South Shores Pet Clinic presents a mixed picture. While they offer veterinary services for various animals, including cats and rabbits, the provided reviews detail significant negative experiences related to treatment outcomes, communication, and the thoroughness of care for certain species. Local users considering South Shores Pet Clinic should carefully weigh these accounts and perhaps seek further information or consider asking detailed questions about the clinic's experience and protocols, especially concerning the specific type of pet they own and the treatments being recommended.

Dec 03, 2024 · Jenn AlasDon’t take your rabbits here. They accept rabbits, but don’t do a proper examination. Took my pet in one month ago. They checked his teeth & everything was fine, but when we took our bun to get vaccinated at our local hospital clinic they mentioned his teeth needed emergency surgery and he’s been like this for at least 3-4 months. Luckily we found out before he got an infection. Stop offering services you can’t provide.
Feb 15, 2025 · Lexi GVery disappointed and nauseated. This veterinarian office is more about playing games to take your money by killing you with fake kindness and lies than they are interested in caring for your pet. The initial quote matched the advertised amount for a feline dental, they made me pay 71$ for an exam and to basically agree with me that he needed a dental, claiming they needed to “check his heart” During the exam they were already setting me up for possible extractions, while realizing due to the age of my pet extractions might be a possibility i also felt pushed already and maintained my awareness to the push towards extractions, we agreed to do the cleaning first and send me pictures showing the severity of any extractions needed for a decision from me, AND SURE ENOUGH not only did i have to make them adjust the price on the initial visit they forced me to fight them to change the wording on the instructions from the additional extraction's being pre confirmed before cleaning to push back and make them put in writing that they were to do the cleaning first then send pictures if extractions were needed. No extractions were needed thankfully however i truly believe they would have removed my pets teeth unnecessarily for money as that was what was on the instructions the day of the appointment and was in direct contrast to what we discussed and agreed upon. If that wasn't bad enough i noticed the next day after the cleaning that my pet’s ear had bruising and veining on the pinna (ear flap) that was evidently from a thumb from right hand placement, so they used his ear to pull and position his head for the cleaning! I text them the next day they text me the day after that of course denying!!! that whatever happened to his ear wasn’t a result of what they did. I could have respected an apology and acknowledgement saying they would address it with their techs to make sure that doesn't happen again. My cat also started growling when asleep as if dreaming about or remembering his experience there. They did do a good job on the teeth cleaning however all the other negatives i experienced cancelled out that one good thing they did.
Feb 10, 2025 · Kiera ChirapsiaMobileMassageHave worked with them for over 3 years now with help bringing our beloved dog to the island. They helped us with all the paper work required, and then meet us at the airport so we don't even have to quarantine our dog. Would highly recommend them!
Sep 23, 2024 · Alain StadAbsolutely terrible customer service at this establishment. Called to get a quote for a spay/vaccinations they couldn’t give me any pricing because every circumstance was different. That doesn’t even make sense. Scheduled an appointment, authorized a specified cost for the procedures and the cost was 100 dollars more when I arrived to pick up my animal. The receptionist said it was her mistake on the initial quote after up charging for additional medication on top of that. Horrible place. Do not recommend.
