Our large dog had a severe complication from his neutering procedure which was incredibly expensive and caused untold stress and emotional pain for our family. I work in human healthcare and understand that medicine is tricky and complicated, but we have several concerns beyond the catastrophic outcome our dog endured. Upon discharge, the veterinary technician who gave us our dog noted he had "thin skin and bled a lot during the procedure." Several hours later, his scrotal skin became so swollen with blood that it started leaking onto our floor. We immediately took him to the emergency vet where they performed a second surgery and noted it was the "largest scrotal hematoma" they had ever seen. The response of Dr. Kay at this practice lacked the empathy, kindness, and compassion that would have allowed for better processing and restored our relationship with this vet. He told us that "the veterinary emergency practice didn't need to perform the surgery" and then jokingly laughed that we should just sue him because it would be easier that way. Since our experience at this vet, I've learned that there is an accreditation pet owners should look for when choosing their vet because, in order to be certified by this organization, they have to prove their compliance with best veterinary practices. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) lists all practices in compliance; we will be choosing an accredited animal hospital for future care (there are multiple in this area and one less than a mile from South Boulder Animal Hospital). If you are looking for a vet, I would recommend looking elsewhere. The complications we endured aren't statistically normal (neutering is supposed to be exceptionally safe) and the reaction of Dr. Kay displayed an alarming lack of empathy and concern for the animals and owners with whom he does business.

Aug 04, 2024 · Theresa SchultzThis place has gone way downhill since the veterinary corporation that bought it fired Dr. Kay and drove Dr. Watrous off. The doctor that they kept in their stead was a mere shadow of their expertise, experience, and commitment to good outcomes for the animals. We had brought all our dogs and cats to Dr. Kay since when he owned the veterinary clinic in the Meadows shopping center and then moved with him when he bought the South Boulder Animal Hospital. We have always felt that our pets got fantastic care from both Dr. Kay and Dr. Watrous. Since those two doctors are no longer there, we are now going to a different veterinary clinic.
Dec 08, 2024 · Lennard ZinnI have been taking my small dog to South Boulder vet clinic and would never take her anywhere else. They are excellent, and let you know everything they are concerned about and always happy to spend time with you. EXCELLENT
Nov 25, 2024 · Susan LudemanOur 9 year old poodle had growths on his nose and ear. Met with Ashley Duncan, who said these growths are typical for older dogs - no worries! What I liked is she used our visit for our annual check up - very considerate!
Nov 27, 2024 · Baker DuncanMe and my kitty Jimmy were new to South Boulder Animal Hospital today and I have to say everything about my experience was truly wonderful. The ease of scheduling, they promptly found Jimmy’s medical records, they were on time, they were very thorough and answered all of my questions and did not try to oversell me on unnecessary medical tests/etc. I am very happy with this veterinary practice and look forward to bringing all 3 of my cats here! It has been a long time since I have had such good customer care and service.
Aug 27, 2024 · Jennifer McLemoreMy son (an equine DVM) took our dog to the appointment. He was very impressed with the professionalism, courtesy, and patience shown by the SBAH staff. BTW he thought the overall cost of the visit was very reasonable in light of the need for a thorough evaluation, including radiographs, of a canine athletic injury.
