Welcome to Moore Veterinary Care
Moore Veterinary Care, located at 853 E Main St, Ventura, CA 93001, USA, is a distinguished veterinary practice operating within the "Pet Hospital" category. Founded in 1985 and led by Dr. Karen Moore, D.V.M., this clinic has evolved from a house call practice into a full-service facility dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care for a wide array of pets. What truly sets Moore Veterinary Care apart is its extensive expertise in exotic pet medicine, alongside its commitment to making vet visits as stress-free as possible for all animals, including those with anxious temperaments.
The environment at Moore Veterinary Care is designed with a specific philosophy: to create a calm, homelike feel for patients and clients. This focus aims to reduce the anxiety often associated with vet visits, especially for nervous animals. The clinic, which was converted from a small house, strives to maintain a welcoming atmosphere while offering current, proficient care and equipment. You can expect a professional yet comforting setting, likely featuring a reception area that minimizes overstimulation, private examination rooms, and dedicated spaces for diagnostics and treatments. The positive reviews highlight an almost palpable sense of calm, with one client marveling that their "very nervous and 'difficult' cat" became "calm and treatable without restraint" after meeting Dr. Moore. This suggests a highly skilled approach to handling animals, coupled with an environment conducive to their comfort. The facility is equipped to handle various procedures, from routine check-ups to more complex medical needs, all within a setting tailored to prioritize the pet's emotional well-being.
Moore Veterinary Care offers a comprehensive range of services, reflecting its commitment to diverse animal health needs, with a particular strength in exotic pet care. Their offerings typically include:
- Preventive Medicine and Wellness: This forms the foundation of their care, encompassing routine nose-to-tail wellness exams, tailored vaccination schedules (for dogs and cats), and parasite prevention programs (heartworm, fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites). They emphasize early detection and age-specific assessments to ensure pets live long, healthy lives.
- Advanced Diagnostic Services: The clinic provides robust diagnostic capabilities, including a full in-house diagnostic laboratory for immediate test results (bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal exams). They also utilize digital radiology (X-rays) for precise internal imaging. For more complex cases, they have the ability to run specific tests for various conditions.
- Veterinary Surgery: Moore Veterinary Care performs a variety of surgical procedures, ranging from routine spaying and neutering to more involved soft tissue surgeries. They utilize state-of-the-art equipment and best practices, with a focus on safe, multi-modal anesthesia and comprehensive monitoring (EKGs, pulse oximeters, cardiac monitors, intravenous fluid therapy) to minimize risks and ensure patient safety and comfort. They also offer laser surgery, which can minimize bleeding, pain, and infection.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are available, including examinations, digital dental radiology, and expert cleanings to prevent pain, tooth loss, and systemic health issues. They extend dental cleanings and checkups to exotic pets like rabbits and ferrets.
- Exotic Pet Care: This is a major specialization and a significant feature of the clinic. Moore Veterinary Care provides compassionate and knowledgeable veterinary care for a vast array of unique pets, including:
- Birds: Parrots, Doves, Canaries, Finches, Conures, Cockatiels, and more.
- Small Mammals (Pocket Pets): Rabbits, Rats, Mice, Ferrets, Hedgehogs, Chinchillas, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Gerbils, Sugar Gliders.
- Reptiles and Amphibians: Lizards, Iguanas, Bearded Dragons, Snakes, Geckos, Chameleons, Turtles, Tortoises, and more.
- Dermatology: Diagnosis and treatment for skin-related problems, including allergies, rashes, infections, and hair loss.
- Laser Therapy (K-Laser): A gentle and non-invasive option to reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and enhance healing, useful for post-surgical patients, chronic arthritis, skin conditions, muscle strains, and wounds.
- Pain Management: A key consideration in their treatment plans, aiming to identify the source of discomfort and help owners understand signs of pain.
- Nutritional Counseling: Assistance with special dietary needs, weight management, and age-related nutrition.
- Senior Pet Care: Specialized care and age-specific testing for aging pets.
- Emergency Care: The clinic handles emergencies during business hours. For after-hours emergencies, they provide referrals to specialized 24-hour veterinary emergency hospitals in Ventura, Thousand Oaks, and Santa Barbara, specifically for both dogs/cats and exotics.
- Pharmacy: An in-house pharmacy offers a variety of medications and prescription diets.
Several key features distinguish Moore Veterinary Care and contribute to its strong reputation among its clientele. The most prominent is the exceptional ability of Dr. Karen Moore and her team to handle "difficult" or anxious pets. As one client enthusiastically stated about their nervous cat, "The difference was amazing. She is calm and treatable without restraint, allows whatever treatment done easily!!!" This ability to create a low-stress environment is invaluable for pet owners and reflects a deep understanding of animal behavior and gentle handling techniques.
Another outstanding feature is their extensive expertise in exotic pet care. Unlike many general practices, Moore Veterinary Care genuinely specializes in a wide range of exotic animals, including birds (parrots, canaries, finches), small mammals (rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs), and reptiles (lizards, snakes, turtles). This specialized knowledge is a significant draw, as exemplified by a client whose "parrot’s broken wing" was "quickly and accurately diagnosed and treated" and whose rabbit receives care for "any health issues." The staff's training and equipment for exotic pets are explicitly mentioned, making them a trusted resource for unique companions.
The clinic's compassionate and knowledgeable team is consistently praised. Clients use terms like "amazing team," "very knowledgeable," and express complete trust in Dr. Moore. This suggests a dedicated and highly skilled group of professionals who truly care for the animals they treat. The continuity of care, with Dr. Moore having cared for "all of my pets" for years, fosters strong client-veterinarian relationships built on trust and consistent positive experiences. The practice's longevity, having started in 1985, further cements its reputation in the Ventura community.
The transparent and ethical approach to care is another implicit feature. Clients feel their "babies are happy and healthy," implying that the treatments provided are effective and necessary. The emphasis on "current, proficient care and equipment" demonstrates a commitment to modern veterinary medicine.
For promotional information, Moore Veterinary Care effectively highlights its core strengths: compassionate care, advanced medical services, and specialized exotic pet expertise. Their messaging would likely emphasize:
- "Compassionate care that makes a difference for even the most nervous pets."
- "Expert veterinary care for all your pets, from traditional companions to exotic birds, reptiles, and small mammals."
- "State-of-the-art diagnostics and surgical capabilities for comprehensive health management."
They would promote their convenient location at 853 E Main St, Ventura, CA 93001, USA, and readily available contact information: phone (805) 643-4838 and mobile phone +1 805-643-4838. Their website or other online platforms would provide detailed lists of services, highlight Dr. Karen Moore's qualifications, and showcase testimonials from satisfied clients. Information about their operating hours (Mon-Tue-Fri: 9am-5pm, Wed-Thur: 9am-12pm, Sat-Sun: Closed) and clear guidance for after-hours emergencies (with specific referral hospitals listed) would be readily accessible to ensure pet owners know where to turn when needed. The consistently positive and highly specific reviews about the gentle handling of difficult pets and successful treatment of exotic animals serve as powerful organic promotion, attracting new clients seeking this specialized level of care.

May 14, 2025 · Katrina GageOur family has been taking our pets to Moore Veterinary Care for over 25 years. Dr Moore is an extremely competent vet who cares deeply for her patients. She calls us, spends time explaining the recommended course of treatment, and answers our many questions. It is also clear the staff love the animals and cares for them as they would their own. We get text follow ups after hours and we know they have stayed late beyond closing to help fit us in with emergencies. Simply put, Dr Moore and her staff look after our family.
