I cannot speak highly enough about Florida Animal Dentistry! I adopted a stray cat who ended up having severe Stomatitis and needed a full mouth extraction! I am so grateful my primary vet referred me to Dr. Wiegand! He and Susie are amazing! So patient, so thorough, so kind! They took EXCELLENT care of my cat, Oliver, and always answered ALL of my many questions and concerns with professionalism and kindness. The price of surgery was (of course!) a lot, but I thought it was VERY reasonable considering all that is involved. The cost also included all follow up visits. Dr. Wiegand and Susie are an amazing team, and I would highly recommend them to anyone! (By the way, my cat, Oliver, is about 2.5 months past surgery now, and doing GREAT! I am so happy that we got this taken care of! He can live a healthier and happier life now, thanks to Florida Animal Dentistry!)

Welcome to Florida Animal Dentistry

Florida Animal Dentistry, situated at 3006 S Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33405, USA, operates as a specialized "Pet Hospital" with an exclusive focus on advanced veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. The clinic can be reached at (561) 515-6711 for both general and mobile inquiries. This specialization sets it apart from general veterinary practices, as it provides dedicated expertise and equipment to address the complex and often painful dental conditions that affect companion animals. Dr. Wiegand, a board-certified specialist in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, leads the practice, often lauded alongside his assistant, Susie, for their exceptional care and professionalism.

The environment at Florida Animal Dentistry is consistently described as professional, compassionate, and reassuring, particularly by clients whose pets require significant or complex oral procedures. While the physical layout isn't explicitly detailed, the nature of their services implies a highly equipped facility with state-of-the-art dental surgical suites. These suites would contain top-of-the-line surgical and dental equipment, advanced anesthesia delivery systems, and comprehensive patient monitoring systems, including integrated direct digital radiography. The emphasis on individualized patient care and compassion for both pets and their families suggests an atmosphere that strives to alleviate anxiety during what can be stressful times. The promptness with which they admitted "Pebbles" for an urgent stomatitis case highlights their responsiveness and dedication to immediate needs, further contributing to a supportive environment for pet owners. The fact that the clinic focuses solely on oral surgery and dentistry means the entire environment, from the waiting area to the recovery rooms, is designed to facilitate specialized care without the distractions or broader scope of a general practice. This specialized setting allows for efficiency and optimized protocols for dental procedures, ensuring the highest standard of anesthetic safety and pain management.

Florida Animal Dentistry offers a comprehensive range of veterinary dental and oral surgery services, addressing the full spectrum of pet oral health needs. Their expertise extends far beyond routine cleanings, covering complex conditions and advanced procedures. Key services include:

  • Periodontics: This involves the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease, the most common dental condition in pets. Services include supra and subgingival ultrasonic scaling and polishing of teeth, closed and open root planing, subgingival curettage, perioceutic therapy, advanced mucogingival flap surgery, gingival recontouring, and bone augmentation and regeneration. The goal is to restore periodontal health and prevent further disease progression.

  • Oral Surgery: A critical component of their offerings, including surgical dental extractions, especially for severe cases like full mouth extractions for stomatitis, as exemplified by Oliver and Pebbles. Other oral surgical procedures include palatal defect repair, oronasal and oroantral defect repair, oral tumor removal, jaw fracture intraoral stabilization and fixation, maxillectomy, and mandibulectomy (removal of portions of the upper or lower jaw), and maxillofacial reconstruction.

  • Endodontics: Treatment of diseases affecting the pulp (nerve) of the tooth, such as root canals, vital pulpotomy, and crown height reduction with endodontic therapy for painful malocclusions.

  • Orthodontics: Procedures to correct painful malocclusions (misalignment of teeth and bite). This can involve bite evaluation, genetic counseling, and the application of active or passive force orthodontic appliances like braces, elastic chains, incline planes, crown extensions, and gingival wedge resections. Less common corrective orthodontics may include surgical repositioning.

  • Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry: Services such as cast metal crown restoration, ¾ crowns for enamel wear, and composite or glass ionomer restorations for cavities, enamel fractures, or defects.

  • Advanced Imaging: Utilizing digital radiography systems for intraoral images and advanced CT scans (e.g., complete scans in less than 40 seconds) for detailed assessment of dental and oral structures. This is crucial for diagnosing issues below the gum line and minimizing anesthesia time.

The clinic’s dedication to providing the highest standard of anesthetic safety and pain management during these complex procedures is also a cornerstone of their service philosophy.

The key features of Florida Animal Dentistry, as highlighted by client experiences and their specialized nature, are numerous. Foremost is the expertise of Dr. Wiegand, a board-certified specialist in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, ensuring the highest level of care for intricate dental issues. His extensive training, including a formal four-year Clinical Residency in Dentistry and Oral Surgery, and background as an emergency clinician, provide a robust foundation for his practice. The collaborative approach between Dr. Wiegand and his assistant, Susie, is consistently praised for its effectiveness, patience, thoroughness, and kindness. Their ability to handle cases like severe stomatitis requiring full mouth extractions, and to manage pets with such significant pain that they stop eating and drinking, showcases their high competency and compassionate technique. The clinic's commitment to transparent communication is another vital feature; they "always answered ALL of my many questions and concerns with professionalism and kindness" and provided "great follow up instructions." The inclusion of follow-up visits in the initial surgery price, as noted by a client, indicates a value-driven approach despite the inherent cost of specialized care. The clinic’s state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced digital radiography and CT scanning capabilities, are essential for precise diagnostics and efficient procedures, leading to reduced anesthesia times and lower radiation exposure. Their role as a referral center, welcoming cases from surrounding veterinarians, also highlights their standing in the veterinary community and their readiness to assist with challenging dental or oral disease cases.

Regarding promotional information, while the reviews do not explicitly mention specific promotional offers, the positive testimonials themselves serve as powerful endorsements. The clinic's most compelling "promotional" points are its specialized expertise, the high success rate of complex procedures, and the exceptional client care. The repeated praise for Dr. Wiegand and Susie ("amazing team," "absolute Earth angels," "so patient, so thorough, so kind") creates a strong word-of-mouth reputation. The cost of surgery, while acknowledged as "a lot," is consistently described as "VERY reasonable considering all that is involved" and the inclusion of follow-up visits, which implicitly promotes the value of their services. The tangible positive outcomes, such as Oliver "doing GREAT!" and Pebbles "eating and drinking on her own. No more jumping up in pain!", are the most effective advertisements for their specialized care. The clinic's readiness to take in urgent cases immediately, as demonstrated with Pebbles, also acts as a strong draw for owners in distress. Florida Animal Dentistry also communicates with referring veterinarians through a website portal, email, or phone, accepting case consultation forms and dental referral forms, which helps build their professional network and promotes their services within the veterinary community. For pet owners in West Palm Beach and surrounding areas seeking the highest level of dental and oral surgical care for their companions, the demonstrated expertise and compassionate approach of Florida Animal Dentistry, led by Dr. Wiegand, are their primary assurances of quality.

I can't say how blessed I am to have Dr Wiegand and his beautiful wife Susie in our lives ❣️ Pebbles is 4 years old and has stomatitis and stopped eating and drinking. Things were really stressful on her. After calling Dr Wiegand and Susie, they took her immediately in! I have never met two individuals that are absolute Earth 😇😇❣️ Thank you both for being so wonderful to P and I. My baby is eating and drinking on her own. No more jumping up in pain! She's so happy and I'm relieved!! You took my P in and treated her like your own. For that I'm so grateful , TY 😽 Pebbles and Laura, 4 months later unfortunately she's still suffering from stomatitis I pray she has a good quality of life 🧬. It's extremely stressful for her and I.

They care about the comfort of the fur babies and the parents! ☆☆☆☆☆ Mike and Suzzie provided all the answers we were looking for. No rushing, we talked long enough to see that my fur baby was comfortable with them. ☆☆☆☆☆ They had our vet perform a couple tests to make sure our baby was able to handle the procedure. Working with our regular vet gave us another level of comfort that these guys are animal owners and wanted the same thing I wanted for my baby. ☆☆☆☆☆ Mike gave us a quote with a high and low price depending on the complications they couldn't see until the X-rays and getting hands on. We had a hard price $+- going into the appointment! ☆☆☆☆☆ Suzzy and Mike sat down with us as caring friends would. The level of service and care we received for our fur baby was ☆☆☆☆☆ stars all around!

Our little cat, Charlie, was terribly uncomfortable due to juvenile gingivitis/stomatitis. Our vet referred us to someone else who we saw but we’re not comfortable with. I found Florida Animal Dentistry online and gave them a call- what a difference! Dr. Wiegand and his wife, Susie, do an amazing job caring for these animals. He is a board certified animal dentist (unlike the individual we had been referred to initially) and he really spends time explaining everything so you know what to expect. Additionally, the cost for this surgery is high however Dr Wiegand charged us HALF of what the other vet was going to charge us. They completed the surgery on a Friday and then kept Charlie for a number of days, keeping us informed on his progress. The whole process was so well planned and thought out. Susie was incredibly helpful with the transition to home which can be difficult. Charlie is now home- happy and comfortable and we feel so much better to know that he is not suffering in pain! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!

We had the distinct pleasure of meeting Dr. Wiegand and his wife Suzy due to an unfortunate situation. We adopted a 3 month rescue from a local shelter in boca and the poor baby had a canine that was growing into the roof of their mouth and had started to pierce the patella. Dr. Wiegand and Suzy were beyond amazing and attentive. We are currently still undergoing follow up care but we have learned so much while attending their follow ups. Dr. Wiegand is a board-certified vet dentist, with only 2 in the South Florida area, who is extremely patient with their patients and they parents. So far, we have been closing monitoring how our pup progresses and grows. Hopefully, baby girl's jaw will grow in a manner thats appropriate to achieve a comfortable bite for her. Highly recommend and we personally appreciate their approach to a less than invasive and they weigh out the best option of our pup. Thank you!
