Based on the enthusiastic testimonials from horse owners, FLEP distinguishes itself through its knowledgeable and skilled veterinarians, comprehensive range of services, patient-centric approach, and crucial 24/7 emergency availability, offering peace of mind to horse owners in the area.
The environment at Finger Lakes Equine Practice is characterized by professionalism, expertise, and a deep understanding of equine behavior and needs. While the reviews primarily focus on the veterinarians' interactions with the horses and owners in various settings (farms, training facilities), the consistent praise suggests a practice that prioritizes a calm, patient, and effective approach to equine care. The ability of Dr. Nash to handle a feral mustang, previously deemed untrainable, for essential procedures like Coggins testing and vaccination in under ten minutes without sedation speaks volumes about his expertise and gentle handling techniques. This highlights a practice that understands the unique temperament of horses and strives to minimize stress during examinations and procedures.
The services offered by Finger Lakes Equine Practice are comprehensive, catering to a wide range of equine health needs. Routine preventative care is a cornerstone of their practice, as evidenced by Dr. Nash's farm visits for vaccinations and introductory checkups on miniature donkeys. During these visits, the veterinarians provide valuable advice on overall well-being, including crucial aspects like weight management, demonstrating a proactive approach to equine health. The availability of 24/7 emergency services is a significant feature, ensuring that horse owners have access to immediate veterinary care in critical situations, providing invaluable peace of mind.
Beyond preventative care and emergency services, FLEP excels in diagnosing and treating various equine medical conditions. The remarkable experience shared by a horse owner whose animal suffered from a rare quittor abscess highlights the exceptional diagnostic and treatment skills of the veterinarians, particularly Dr. LaPointe. In a case where another veterinarian suggested euthanasia, Dr. LaPointe offered a second opinion, meticulously researched treatment options, and guided the horse to a near full recovery. This dedication to exploring all possibilities and providing thorough, evidence-based care is a hallmark of the practice.
The expertise of the veterinarians extends to handling horses with challenging temperaments. Dr. Olson's ability to manage a "pushy OTTB" with professionalism and skill demonstrates their experience in working with a variety of equine personalities. Furthermore, the veterinarians at FLEP are commended for their communication skills, effectively breaking down complex medical information into easily understandable terms for horse owners. This ensures that owners are fully informed about their horse's condition, the rationale behind treatment plans, and the importance of adhering to those plans for successful recovery.
A recurring theme in the reviews is the exceptional skill and special connection that all the equine veterinarians at Finger Lakes Equine Practice have with horses. One long-time horse owner, who has traveled extensively with their animals and encountered numerous veterinary practices across the country, unequivocally states that they have "never found better than FLEP." This strong endorsement underscores the consistently high level of care and expertise provided by the entire team.
While the provided information does not include specific details about the clinic environment (as the practice appears to be primarily mobile, visiting horses at their locations), the emphasis on patient handling, thorough communication, and successful treatment outcomes suggests a practice that prioritizes the horse's comfort and the owner's understanding, regardless of the physical setting. The ability to perform complex procedures, offer sound advice, and handle emergencies effectively are key aspects of their service delivery.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Apr 10, 2025 · Sherryl MitchellThis feral mustang in the pics, previously labeled untrainable, has been with the trainer here for only two days. Dr. Nash went in and handled her slowly and patiently and drew her coggins & vaccinated her in under 10 minutes without sedating her. It was a sight to behold. I have another horse with a rare quittor abscess that another vet in another part of the country had suggested euthanasia as best treatment option. I brought the horse to Dr. LaPointe for second opinion and we chose treatment. Dr. LaPointe researched and reviewed options with me carefully and the horse is nearly healed, well on the way to full recovery. Dr. LaPointe is the port in the storm, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. My horses are boarding right now and I'm looking for my own farm... I will look for a farm to stay in his service area, nothing else will do. Nothing. Dr. Olson has been out for several calls to take care of my horses. I have a bit of a pushy OTTB and he handles this gelding like a true pro. Dr. Olsen is also great at relating to the horse owners, at breaking information down to a level that's easily understood so you really know what's happening with your horse and why following through with treatments are important. All the equine vets in the practice are excellent at their practice and have a special way with horses. I've traveled the country with my horses for work, and have never found better than FLEP.
