Based on the available customer reviews, experiences with Equine Medical Services appear to be varied. One reviewer had a highly positive experience when delivering a mare for a client, describing the staff as "over the top AMAZING," particularly mentioning the helpfulness of someone named Mia, and gave the service a "five plus" rating on a five-star scale.
However, another reviewer expressed significant disappointment. They detailed an experience with their 20-year-old mare who presented with lameness. This customer reported feeling that the clinic focused on potentially expensive metabolic testing rather than immediately addressing a suspected abscess. They stated that despite requesting a shoe removal and hoof test, they were advised against X-rays and told the farrier should handle the hoof test. The reviewer felt treated like a "bill" rather than a client. Subsequently, their regular vet (MU) reportedly diagnosed and treated an evident abscess for a significantly lower cost than what Equine Medical Services charged for what the reviewer perceived as a lack of diagnosis. This reviewer strongly recommended calling their regular vet or even a local cattle vet before contacting Equine Medical Services, based on their perception of a lack of listening and an inclination to inflate the bill.
These contrasting reviews highlight the importance for local users to consider both positive and negative feedback when evaluating veterinary services. The positive review praises the staff's helpfulness, while the negative review raises concerns about diagnostic approach, communication, and cost.
Regarding promotional information, none is explicitly provided in the text. However, the positive review could be seen as an unsolicited endorsement of excellent staff service. Conversely, the negative review serves as a cautionary account.
To gain a balanced perspective and more detailed information about Equine Medical Services' environment, the full scope of their specialized equine services, their approach to diagnostics and client communication, and their billing practices, local users are encouraged to contact them directly at (573) 443-4414 or +1 573-443-4414. It would also be beneficial to inquire about their protocols for lameness evaluations and their approach to client communication and cost transparency.
In summary, Equine Medical Services in Columbia, MO, is a Pet Hospital specializing in veterinary care for horses. While one customer reported a very positive experience with the staff, another detailed a significantly negative experience regarding diagnostic approach and billing. Local users who require veterinary care for their horses should consider these perspectives and contact Equine Medical Services directly to discuss their specific needs and to understand their practices and services in detail. It may also be prudent to compare their services and approach with other equine veterinary options in the area to make an informed decision about their horse's care.

Feb 14, 2024 · Len TowI was really disappointed with my experience, to say the least. If I could give a zero star I would. I have a 20yr old mare who had an acute bout of laminitis 16 years ago. We have managed her weight/ dry- lotted and excersised + xrayed her hooves annually to make sure there was no other issues. 2 weeks out of her annual xray, she popped up lame. So I tend to take her lameness seriously, maybe too much, but I got worried. I called MU our normal vet, and they couldn't make it out that day. My mare was walking on her toe, so I really figured abcess but not laminitis. She has front shoes + pads and so I called EM. If nothing else, to give her bamamine until the normal vet would arrive. The EM vet convinced me she had a lot of fat pouches, and needed to be tested for all sorts of hoof disease/metabolic issues. I did agree, if that would rule out the problem, but also asked several times if we could just pull the shoe and hoof test. I was told x-rays, would be worthless, I was told the farrier should pull the shoe and hoof test... it really seemed like I was treated like a bill. Not like a client. Which I could almost understand up until MU came out and charged me $170 to pull the shoe and find the obnoxiously evident abcess. So I was charged $874 by EM for basically nothing. Whole MU charged $170 to actually diagnos the problem and treat it.. I called 4 different times to ask why EM was so much more expensive, or how there bills were equivicated, and never recieved an answer or a call back. Honestly didn't expect one, based on the lack of care I recieved, but still figured there were secretaries or maybe billing people involved. Apparently not. I would highly recommend calling MU before you ever call these guys; and secondaries I would recommend calling your small town cattle vet prior to giving these guys a chance. They don't seem to listen/care what you have to say, just want to pump up your bill as much as possible
May 22, 2024 · Caroline WestDr. Bailey was so wonderful to work with and took excellent care of my horse that went in with a very grim prognosis. She walked me through the procedure and explained all scenarios and possible outcomes afterwards. She called me every morning with an update and I was so appreciative of that as we live 2 and a half hours away. I felt so comfortable leaving my horse there for a week in their hands with their excellent aftercare! I am so grateful that he gets to come back home with me and I have Dr. Bailey and the staff at Equine Medical Services to thank for this extra time we have together!
Feb 07, 2023 · Rebecca NowakI have used EMS for a few years now. I even got the privilege of working under Dr. Enright and Dr. Bailey for a little over a year. The knowledge I gained in terms of lameness and emergency situations has been incredibly valuable. They are awesome and always willing to help their clients understand what is going on and answer any questions the clients may have. My retired horse is still in Columbia, and the vets take excellent care of him. I know I can trust their judgment, and my horse is in good hands. I cannot say enough good things about the knowledge and professionalism in my dealings with EMS. I have now moved to Alabama for school, and I wish they were my vets for my new horse. Highly Recommend!
Jun 21, 2020 · Alexandria HagelstonEMS offers the very best care to horses regardless of age, breed or value! I’ve worked at various farms with various vets over the past 20 years and I have never met a more professional and compassionate group! Dr. Bailey especially goes above and beyond to make sure all of our horses are in top condition, takes the time to answer questions, and make sure we’re well educated with any follow up care. I can’t say enough good things about her and the rest of staff!
