Features / Highlights

Worthington Off Leash Dog Park stands out with several key features and highlights that make it a top choice for dog owners in Ellicott City and Howard County:

  • Generous Space: Unlike smaller urban dog parks, Worthington offers "plenty of run room" across its 2.7 acres. This ample space allows dogs to truly stretch their legs and engage in vigorous exercise.
  • Size-Segregated Areas: The clear separation into "small dog area and big dog area separated by fence" is a major advantage. This thoughtful design minimizes potential conflicts and ensures a safer, more comfortable play environment for all dogs, including "timid & elderly dogs."
  • Essential Amenities on Site: The park provides crucial conveniences like "water for dogs" and "poop bags," demonstrating a commitment to responsible pet ownership and park cleanliness. "Trash" receptacles are also readily available.
  • Comfort for Owners: "Some seats for people" and "shaded seating areas" allow owners to relax and supervise their pets comfortably, enhancing the overall park experience.
  • Agility Equipment: The presence of "obstacles" and a designated "agility training" area adds an extra dimension of fun and mental stimulation for dogs and their handlers.
  • Fenced and Secure: The "fully fenced" nature of the park provides peace of mind, allowing dogs to play off-leash in a controlled environment.
  • Dog Toy Friendly: Unlike some dog parks, Worthington "allows dog toys," which can lead to more engaging and varied play for the pups.
  • Managed by Howard County Recreation & Parks: Being part of the county's park system ensures professional maintenance and adherence to public standards.

While there is a fee for entry, this investment contributes to the maintenance and quality of these valuable features, ensuring a well-kept and enjoyable environment.

Promotions or Special Offers

Worthington Off Leash Dog Park, as a facility managed by Howard County Recreation & Parks, operates on a permit system rather than offering traditional commercial promotions. This system ensures proper maintenance and safety for all users.

Key "offers" or payment options for access include:

  • Daily Permit: Visitors can purchase a "daily permit" on-site for $5 per visit. This is a convenient option for those who visit occasionally or are trying out the park for the first time. It is crucial to note that one review indicated the fee is "cash only," so visitors should come prepared.
  • Annual Permit: For regular users, an annual permit is available for $40 per household, covering "up to 3 dogs." This provides significant savings over daily fees for frequent visitors. Annual permits are valid from January 1 to December 31 and are not prorated.
  • Permit Requirements: To obtain either a daily or annual permit, visitors "must have proof of current license and rabies vaccination" for their dogs. This ensures the health and safety of all park users. Howard County accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover for annual permits, but not cash.
  • Fee Application: Up to three daily permits purchased within a 15-day period can be applied toward an annual permit by returning the stubs with the application.
  • "Friends of the Dog Park" Groups: While not a direct promotion, dog park users can often get involved with local "Friends of the Dog Park" groups (such as W.O.O.F. - Worthington Organized Off-leash Friends) that support and enhance the park. This can offer a sense of community and direct contribution to the park's welfare.
  • Rentals: The "Upper field is available to rent from May through November for special events and private use," with a $30/hour fee for special events and $15/hour for training. This offers a unique "service" for groups or trainers.

Always check the Howard County Recreation & Parks website or call ahead for the most current information on fees, payment methods, and permit requirements, as these can change.

Lovely big park. Hate that there’s a $5 fee for your dog to go to a dog park. And it’s cash only. Would never come here had I known. Really should be made clear online

Our first visit was great. We were greeted by a lovely park employee who asked us if it was our first visit. She explained how to complete the form, she asked for proof of rabies shot and noted the expiration. She showed us where to put our $5 fee and explained how we could join for a yearly fee to save money if we came often. She explained the two gate system and which area was for larger dogs and the other area for smaller or more timid dogs. Our pup is large so we went to the right and we enjoyed the experience. Our pup was shy but warmed up to a few other dogs. All the dog parents were friendly and we stayed about an hour. The park employee explained that if we paid the $5 and came early in the day, we could come back without paying the fee again. She also explained that we were responsible for cleaning up after our dog and we all did that which made a better experience for humans and dogs. There was also an agility course that she pointed out and we enjoyed taking a look at that. We were impressed with the employee, we didn't expect someone to be there. She didn't stop working the entire time we were there. Cleaning up dog bowls no longer full of water, hauling trash to the dumpster, answering peoples questions and greeting people. I believe her name was Rita and we appreciated how much she seemed to care about the place and the pups. We are 100% going to visit again!

Love this place! Go here almost daily with my high energy pup, 5 bucks a day or 40 for the year, worth every penny, Rita the afternoon attendant is amazing, helps you get to know the parks and knows all the dogs! Poo bags and toys are provided, great sitting areas and water for the pups! Could not be happier with finding this place
