My dog and I love it here. You need a key fob for entry which can be obtained from the city/county after submitting the necessary paperwork for licensure. There are two play areas: one for bigger and the other for smaller dogs. Both have water in season and provide stations with waste bags and disposal bins. The larger park has a walking path along the perimeter.

Its central location ensures that a fantastic off-leash experience is just a short drive away for many local dog owners. The park’s position on Shiawassee Street makes it simple to navigate to, whether you’re coming from within Farmington Hills or from neighboring communities.

Accessibility to the park is primarily managed through a key fob system, which is a common practice for ensuring the safety and proper use of dedicated dog parks. To gain entry, users are typically required to obtain a key fob from the city or county. This process usually involves submitting necessary paperwork, often including proof of current dog licensure and vaccinations. While this might seem like an extra step, it’s a measure put in place to ensure that all dogs entering the park are up-to-date on their vaccinations and are properly licensed, contributing to a safer and healthier environment for all park visitors. It also helps manage the park's capacity and ensures that it remains a resource for local residents.

While the park is a fantastic local amenity, it's important for potential visitors to be aware of any residency requirements for obtaining a key fob. As indicated by some user experiences, access may be prioritized for Farmington Hills residents. It is always recommended to contact the Farmington Hills city offices or the park administration directly to confirm the most current access policies and procedures, especially if you reside outside of Farmington Hills but within Oakland County. This will help you understand if and how you can obtain a key fob and enjoy all that William Grace Dog Park has to offer. The park’s location is well-marked and provides ample parking for visitors, making it a convenient destination once access is secured.

William Grace Dog Park offers a range of services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for both dogs and their owners. These thoughtful provisions highlight the park's commitment to creating a safe and functional environment for off-leash play.

  • Separate Play Areas: One of the most appreciated features of William Grace Dog Park is its division into two distinct play areas. There is a dedicated space for larger dogs, allowing them ample room to run, chase, and engage in high-energy play with dogs of similar size and temperament. Simultaneously, a separate, secure area is provided for smaller dogs. This separation is crucial for the safety and comfort of smaller breeds, preventing potential intimidation or accidental injuries from more rambunctious larger dogs. This thoughtful design ensures that dogs of all sizes can play safely and confidently.
  • Seasonal Water Access: During the appropriate seasons, the park provides access to water, which is essential for keeping dogs hydrated, especially during warmer months or after vigorous play. This amenity helps prevent dehydration and ensures that dogs remain comfortable and energized throughout their visit.
  • Waste Bag Stations: To maintain cleanliness and hygiene within the park, multiple stations stocked with waste bags are strategically placed throughout both play areas. This encourages responsible pet ownership and makes it easy for owners to clean up after their dogs, contributing to a pleasant environment for everyone.
  • Disposal Bins: Complementing the waste bag stations, easily accessible disposal bins are provided for convenient and sanitary disposal of pet waste. This helps keep the park clean and free of odors, ensuring a more enjoyable experience for all visitors.
  • Perimeter Walking Path (Large Dog Park): The larger dog park area features a walking path along its perimeter. This is a fantastic feature for owners who wish to get some exercise themselves while their dogs play off-leash. It allows for a more active visit, enabling owners to stroll or jog while keeping an eye on their pets.

It also helps in maintaining the park's cleanliness and proper usage by users who have gone through the registration process.
  • Dedicated Large and Small Dog Areas: As mentioned, the presence of two distinct, securely fenced areas – one for large dogs and one for smaller breeds – is a major highlight. This thoughtful segregation prevents potential conflicts and ensures that dogs of all sizes can play safely and comfortably, tailored to their energy levels and play styles.

I live in Lathrup Village I wanted to walk my dog there but I was refused entry because I didn’t live in Farmington. My question would be…do this park receive funding from OAKLAND COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION MILLAGE?

It was a thorough (paperwork) process to get my key fob. Loved the security of it being electronically gated. However, there is zero shade and my dog got a virus within one week of using the park. Not risking taking her there again. Pretty bummed, so is my dog.

It's a nice little place to take your dog/s. The people and other doggies are friendly 🙂 There's a small playground right next to the park if you have other little ones to keep preoccupied.

We moved from Farmington hills, however, we miss the safety this place provides for our dog. Requiring vaccinations and licenses made us feel safer about our dog I interacting with others here and the owners were all wonderful. The park is clean and has available water supply as well.
