I’ve been bringing our shepsky here regularly since October 2024, and he LOVES it. He wants nothing to do with me until it’s time to leave - he wants to run, play, and socialize with his buddies. It’s a very consistent group of people there daily, so our dog has become good buddies with a lot of the regular dogs. It’s so fun to watch them all play together - and since we’ve been coming so often the “regular” dogs there recognize my car and will come over to the fence to wait and greet us! It really is a wonderful little community.

**6801 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA 22307, USA**
Located on Fort Hunt Road, the park is part of the larger Westgrove Park, which is owned and operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). This location offers straightforward access for those driving, with plenty of parking available. For residents in the immediate vicinity, it's often within walking or short driving distance, making daily visits highly convenient. The park's setting in Alexandria's Fort Hunt area also provides a pleasant backdrop, contributing to a relaxed and enjoyable experience for both dogs and their owners. The ease of access helps establish Westgrove Dog Park as a go-to destination for local dog lovers in Virginia.
---
Westgrove Dog Park, while primarily an off-leash dog area, offers several key services and features that enhance the experience for its users. It operates as a public/private partnership between the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) and Westgrove P.A.C.K. (Pumphouse Association for Canine Kindness), a non-profit volunteer-based organization that significantly contributes to its maintenance and improvements.
-
**Dual Fenced Off-Leash Areas:** The park provides two large fenced sections for off-leash dog play. This separation allows for varied play experiences, and often, one area might be designated for all dogs, while the other might be rotated or managed based on turf conditions or special events. The existence of these distinct, ample spaces is a significant service, accommodating multiple dogs simultaneously without feeling overly crowded.
-
**Water Access (Water Pump/Fountains):** A crucial amenity, the park is equipped with a water pump and fountains, ensuring that dogs have access to fresh drinking water during their playtime. This is particularly valuable during warmer weather, promoting hydration and comfort for the canine visitors.
-
**Waste Disposal Stations:** To maintain cleanliness and hygiene, numerous doggie bag dispensers and waste disposal bins are strategically placed throughout the park. This service encourages responsible pet ownership and helps keep the park clean for all users.
-
**Seating and Picnic Tables:** For the comfort of human companions, the park offers limited seating, including benches and picnic tables, and even a pavilion. This allows owners to relax, observe their dogs, and socialize with other pet parents while at the park.
-
**Agility Equipment:** Westgrove Dog Park also features some basic agility equipment, such as half-buried tires, offering an extra element of engagement and exercise for dogs that enjoy more structured play.
-
**Managed Turf Conditions:** The park authority and Westgrove P.A.C.K. actively manage the turf surface in the south end of the off-leash area, sometimes closing it due to weather or maintenance to preserve the grass. This shows a commitment to maintaining a quality play surface.
---
-
**Expansive Play Areas:** Westgrove Dog Park is lauded for its significant size. With two large fenced sections, it offers ample space for dogs to run, chase, and engage in vigorous play. This vastness prevents overcrowding and allows for a more fulfilling off-leash experience.
-
**Strong Community Vibe:** Perhaps the most frequently highlighted feature is the vibrant and consistent community of regulars. This fosters a welcoming atmosphere where dogs often recognize each other, leading to regular play groups and strong bonds among both canine and human visitors. This established community makes it easy for new visitors to integrate.
-
**Natural Ground Surface with Shaded Areas:** The park features a mix of natural dirt and grassy areas, providing varied textures for dogs. Crucially, it also offers some shade from trees, a welcome respite on sunny days for both dogs and their owners. While it can get muddy after heavy rain, the natural elements are appreciated.
-
**Public/Private Partnership for Enhanced Upkeep:** The collaboration between Fairfax County Park Authority and Westgrove P.A.C.K. is a unique highlight. This partnership enables privately funded improvements and dedicated maintenance efforts, ensuring the park remains a high-quality facility.
-
**Essential Amenities:** The availability of a water pump/fountains, numerous waste stations, and seating options demonstrates a thoughtful approach to meeting the basic needs of park users, ensuring convenience and comfort during visits.
-
**"Hot Dog Friday Nights" and Community Events:** Westgrove P.A.C.K. organizes community-building events like "Hot Dog Friday Nights" during the summer. These events encourage fellowship among park users and further solidify the park's role as a social hub. They are typically independently sponsored and not funded by park maintenance donations.
---
As a public park operating under the Fairfax County Park Authority with significant support from Westgrove P.A.C.K., Westgrove Dog Park doesn't offer traditional commercial "promotions" in the same way a private business would. However, its value to the community is inherently a "special offer" in itself, and there are ways the P.A.C.K. encourages engagement and support.
-
**Free Public Access:** The primary and most significant "offer" is that the park is freely accessible to all responsible dog owners. There are no entrance fees or membership requirements to use the off-leash areas.
-
**Community-Driven Events:** Westgrove P.A.C.K. frequently organizes or facilitates community events, such as the popular "Hot Dog Friday Nights" during the summer. These are not direct promotions for the park's services but rather opportunities for community fellowship and enjoyment. They might involve sponsorship opportunities or voluntary donations to support the event costs, separate from park maintenance funds.
-
**Volunteer Opportunities:** For those who wish to directly support the park, Westgrove P.A.C.K. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and accepts donations. While not a "promotion," contributing helps maintain and improve the park, effectively investing in the quality of the "service" for all users. Donors may even receive recognition.
-
**Membership in Westgrove P.A.C.K.:** While not required for park use, becoming a member of Westgrove P.A.C.K. might come with certain benefits or recognition, and it directly supports the park's ongoing maintenance and enhancements.
For the most current information on community events, suggested donations, or how to support Westgrove P.A.C.K., it is best to visit their official website or social media channels.

May 13, 2025 · Lauren SemanchickMy girls love coming here!!! Dog park is huge with 2 fenced sides to choose from.
Apr 29, 2025 · Gabriella IndigoIt's large and can handle many dogs. Everything is dirty like most dog parks, but the size really sets it apart from other parks. There's no turf, a water fountain that didn't work while I was there, and a few old toys floating around. There are two sections. They aren't fenced off from one another, but they are large enough that you can take your dog to one or the other and get away from others if you want. No dog fights, plenty of parking, and a lot of people. It was a nice day but I get the impression this is a popular park.
Feb 26, 2025 · Rob SnyderI drive 30 minutes to go here, awesome people, clean dog park, the people work as a community to keep the facility clean for everyone. Great place to relax, bring your dog, play fetch, socialize your dog. There are two areas that can be used for bigger dogs and smaller dogs. Best dog park in my area near FT Belvoir.
Oct 06, 2023 · Enrique “Rick” Quintanilla Jr.My girls enjoyed the park. Unfortunately the grounds were wet due to the weather but we will definitely return. Pet owners very responsible with their pets and quiet polite unlike the parks in Maryland where there are mounds of poop. Yes. I travel 15 miles to give my fur babies a safe and healthier experience.
