Station 87 Dog Park is thoughtfully equipped with a range of essential services and amenities, ensuring a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for both canine visitors and their human companions.
Off-Leash Play Areas: The primary service provided is a secure, fenced environment where dogs can safely run, play, and interact off-leash. This freedom is crucial for a dog's physical exercise and behavioral development.
Separate Areas for Small and Large Dogs: A highly appreciated feature, the park offers distinct, securely fenced sections for small dogs and large dogs. This critical separation ensures that dogs of different sizes can play without intimidation, promoting safer and more comfortable interactions for all.
Solid Barrier Between Sections: Uniquely, Station 87 Dog Park features a "covered fence" or "solid barrier" between the small and large dog park areas. This innovative design prevents dogs from directly seeing and barking at each other through the fence, reducing potential excitement, stress, and noise, contributing to a calmer environment.
Water Refill Stations: Essential for the Indio climate, the park provides water access for dogs. This includes both a standard water faucet and, notably, a filtered water bottle refill station. This ensures fresh, clean drinking water is readily available for both pets and their owners, promoting hydration and preventing overheating.
Shade and Seating: To combat the sunny conditions, the park offers natural shade from trees and also features a "shade structure over a bench." Benches are strategically placed for owners to comfortably relax, supervise their pets, and socialize with other park visitors.
Dog Waste Bags: To maintain cleanliness, dog poop bags are provided. This encourages responsible pet ownership and helps ensure the park remains sanitary and pleasant for everyone, contributing to its positive reputation.
Double-Gated Entry: For enhanced security and to prevent accidental escapes, the park utilizes a double-door or double-gated entrance system. This provides a safe buffer zone when entering or exiting the off-leash areas.
Mixed Ground Surfaces: The play areas incorporate both "grass and gravel" surfaces. This offers variety for dogs and can help with drainage and overall park maintenance.
These services collectively demonstrate Station 87 Dog Park's commitment to providing a superior, well-equipped, and enjoyable experience for the canine community and their human companions in Indio.
Station 87 Dog Park boasts several distinguishing features and highlights that consistently earn it praise from local dog owners, establishing it as a top choice in the Indio area.
Innovative Barrier Between Dog Areas: A standout feature is the unique "covered fence" or "solid barrier" situated between the large and small dog sections. Unlike typical chain-link fences where dogs can bark and eye each other, this solid divide significantly reduces visual stimulation between the two groups. This thoughtful design minimizes barking, over-excitement, and potential fence-line aggression, contributing to a much calmer and more harmonious environment for all dogs and owners.
Excellent Water Amenities: The park goes beyond a basic water fountain by offering not just a faucet for dogs, but also a filtered water bottle refill station. This is a highly appreciated highlight, ensuring fresh, clean drinking water for both canine and human visitors, a crucial amenity in the warm Indio climate.
Ample Shade and Seating: Understanding the importance of comfort in the desert, Station 87 Dog Park provides both natural shade from trees and dedicated shade structures, including one over a bench. This allows owners to relax comfortably while supervising their dogs, making visits more enjoyable, especially during sunny periods.
Well-Maintained Grass and Landscaping: Despite being in a desert environment, the park features "grass" areas, which provide a softer, more natural surface for dogs to play on. Combined with "pretty landscaping," this creates a more aesthetically pleasing and pleasant environment compared to purely dirt or gravel parks. The effort in maintaining green spaces is a significant draw.
Provided Poop Bags: The availability of complimentary poop bags at waste stations is a simple yet vital feature. It encourages responsible pet ownership, helping to keep the park consistently clean and sanitary, which is frequently highlighted as a positive by users.
Secure Double-Gated Entry: The double-door entry system enhances safety and control, preventing dogs from dashing out unexpectedly and providing a secure transition zone when entering or exiting the off-leash areas.
Community-Approved Design: The combination of these features, particularly the intelligent separation barrier and water access, resonates strongly with local users, who often describe the park as a "gem" for its practical and well-thought-out design. It demonstrates a clear understanding of what dog owners truly value in a park environment.
These highlights collectively establish Station 87 Dog Park as a superior and highly functional destination for dogs and their owners in Indio, emphasizing comfort, safety, and a pleasant overall experience.
As a public park managed by the City of Indio, Station 87 Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business might. Access to the park is entirely free for all residents and visitors, as it is a public amenity designed to serve the community's recreational needs.
However, the park itself presents several "special offers" in terms of its inherent value and benefits to locals:
Complimentary Access to a Premium Facility: The most significant "promotion" is the free and unrestricted access to a well-designed, well-maintained, and feature-rich dog park. This includes separate, intelligently buffered play areas for dogs of different sizes, ample shade, and fresh water, all at no cost to the user. This public accessibility is an invaluable resource for pet owners.
Enhanced Safety Features: The unique solid barrier between the small and large dog sections, along with double-gated entrances, represents a continuous "offer" of increased safety and peace of mind for dog owners. This thoughtful design helps prevent incidents and contributes to a more relaxed atmosphere for everyone.
Convenient Hydration Options: The provision of both a standard water faucet and a filtered water bottle refill station is an exceptional "offer" for keeping both dogs and their owners well-hydrated, particularly vital in the desert climate of Indio. This convenience adds significant value to every visit.

Water refill station, shade and seating, double doors to enter, grass and gravel, a covered fence between small and large dog park so they don’t just bark and look at each other, and poop bags. Parking lot a bit small other than that a perfect dog park!
Feb 22, 2025 · ChristineA gem of a dog park. Not only are there separate areas for large and small dogs, but there is also a solid barrier between the two so they don't stand there and bark at each other. Landscaping is pretty and there are shade trees as well as a shade structure over a bench. There is a water faucet for dogs as well as a filtered water bottle refill (!!!!). The park is currently covered in grass. I don't know if they irrigate all summer.
Apr 27, 2024 · Jen PetrovichUpdating my rating of this dog park as it recently reopened after some upgrades. They replaced benches in the park which was a huge upgrade from the previous ones. They put in some sod around previously exposed tree roots and chronic mud areas so now they're nicely covered by grass. Most people that frequent the park and pretty chill and dogs well behaved. Although I can only speak for the "small" dog side. Still a nice park but they added some barriers/tarps to block the ability to see from the small dog side into the large, this has significantly reduced the dogs "running the fence" from both sides which our pups really enjoyed.
Jun 25, 2023 · Kera AriasThis dog park was AWESOME. I was just passing through on my way back home from Texas and my little dog needed to get out and run. We found station 87. The dogs there were all very friendly. The owners we as well, it was a very safe, clean and welcoming dog park.
