Large park space just inside a (quarry?) entrance. Only the front is fenced, although the back is bounded by the river. Your dog will need some level of recall at this park. The space is large and grassed, with trails leading out of the "park space" and access to the river. There is a stream that goes through the middle of the park, with two foot bridges over it. There is no water fountain or spigot. Trash is only at the entrance. *edit - although I missed them at dusk, there are bag dispensers scattered around (see response from owner) There is a small dog section which is completely enclosed.

The Southbury Dog Park focuses on providing a safe, comfortable, and stimulating environment for dogs and their owners. While it's primarily an open-access recreational space, several key services and amenities are available to enhance the visitor experience:
- Off-Leash Play Area: The park's primary service is its extensive 14-acre off-leash area, where dogs can run freely and socialize.
- Separate Small Dog Area: For the comfort and safety of smaller or more timid dogs, a completely enclosed section is dedicated specifically for their use. This ensures a secure environment where they can play without being overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous canines.
- Waste Bag Dispensers: To facilitate responsible pet ownership and maintain cleanliness, waste bag dispensers are conveniently located at both entrances and scattered throughout the park.
- Trash Receptacles: Alongside the waste bag stations, garbage cans are provided at the entrances for easy and proper disposal of pet waste.
- Picnic Tables and Benches: For the comfort of human visitors, picnic tables and benches are strategically placed throughout the park. These seating areas allow owners to relax, watch their pups play, or socialize with other dog parents.
- Access to Pomperaug River: A unique feature of the park is its access to the beautiful Pomperaug River, offering an opportunity for dogs to swim and cool off, particularly on warmer days.

The Southbury Dog Park stands out as a premier destination for dog owners in Connecticut due to its unique and well-maintained features:
- Expansive 14-Acre Space: This large area provides ample room for dogs to run, play, and explore, preventing overcrowding and allowing for varied activities.
- Diverse Terrain: The park boasts a mix of large grassy fields, wooded trails, and river access, offering a dynamic environment for dogs and their owners. This variety keeps visits interesting and provides different types of exercise and sensory stimulation for pups.
- Natural Barriers: While not fully fenced, the park utilizes natural boundaries, including the river, to define its expansive space. This creates a feeling of openness and connection with nature.
- Stream with Foot Bridges: A charming stream winds through the middle of the park, featuring two footbridges. This adds to the picturesque setting and allows for easy navigation across the park. The stream also offers an enticing spot for dogs who enjoy a quick dip.
- Community Vibe: Many visitors highlight the friendly atmosphere, noting positive interactions between people and dogs. This communal spirit is fostered by the park's volunteer-run operation and the shared love for canine companions.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: Despite being volunteer-run, the park is consistently praised for being well-maintained and clean, making it a pleasant experience for all.

As a non-profit organization operated entirely by volunteers, the "Friends of the Southbury Dog Park, Inc." doesn't typically offer traditional promotions or discounts in the commercial sense. Instead, their "promotions" are centered around community involvement and supporting the park's continued operation and improvement. Here's what they emphasize:
- Free Membership to All Users: The park welcomes all visitors and their dogs without a paid membership fee. The "membership" is free to all who respect the park rules and contribute to maintaining the safe and enjoyable environment.
- Donation-Based Support: The core "offer" is the opportunity for visitors to contribute financially to the park's upkeep. One hundred percent of donations go directly back into the park for essential needs such as lawn care, fencing, waste bags, and other improvements. This is the park's lifeblood, enabling it to remain open and well-maintained for everyone to enjoy.
- Volunteer Opportunities: For those who wish to offer their time rather than financial contributions, the park actively seeks volunteers. This is a special "offer" of engagement, allowing community members to directly participate in the park's success through activities like spring and fall clean-ups.
- Annual Fundraisers: The Friends of the Southbury Dog Park, Inc. often hold annual fundraising events, such as their October Fundraiser. These events are a key way for the community to come together, support the park, and often enjoy a social gathering. While not a "discount," they are a direct benefit to the park's longevity and quality.

Jan 11, 2025 · Kindred WindMy babies love this park! I have been coming to this park for 2 years now and I’ve had the best experience with people and other dogs. They provide picnic tables and benches which makes it comfortable for you to watch your pups play or chat with other puppy parents. There are 2 poop bag stations available one in each entrance with garbage cans to facilitate cleaning after your dog. Thank you so much for providing a safe and comfortable area! We love it 😍
Mar 16, 2024 · Dayse MaldonadoBest dog park in the state hands down without a doubt. We live 40 minutes away and try to get here once a week. Huge walking area, river, wooded trails, small dog side, friendly people.
Jun 07, 2025 · Hamden House CollectiblesSo fun!! My black lab was in heaven! It’s such a large open space to run with the river access too.
Apr 13, 2025 · Laura GarridoLove this place. Fenced in area for little dogs (under 25 pounds I believe) and my two dogs love it. There is an open (not fenced) area for larger dogs, with some hiking like trails by the river. The river bank can get really slippery, so you have to be careful.
