Introduction / Overview

Smithville Lake Dog Park, also known as the Clay County Dog Park, is a well-loved and thoughtfully designed off-leash area located within the vast recreational complex of Smithville Lake. This impressive park spans two fenced acres, providing ample room for dogs to stretch their legs and interact freely. What truly sets Smithville Lake Dog Park apart is its clear commitment to the safety and comfort of all its furry visitors. The park is intelligently divided into two distinct sections: one dedicated area specifically for small dogs (typically those 25 pounds and under) and a much larger space for bigger breeds. This separation ensures that all dogs, regardless of size or play style, can enjoy their time without undue stress, fostering positive interactions and a harmonious environment.

Beyond just open space, the park is equipped with essential amenities, including agility obstacles for energetic pups, plenty of shade for hot days, and convenient water fountains for both dogs and humans. Operated in partnership with Smithville Parks and Recreation, it reflects a strong community commitment to providing a top-tier facility for local dog owners. It’s a place where dogs can truly enjoy off-leash freedom, engaging with other canines, and exploring a diverse terrain, while owners can relax knowing their pets are in a secure and welcoming environment.

It has great news agility obstacle course, shade, benches. I just wish people would actually follow their dogs and clean up their dogs' messes. So many poo piles all over.

Nice park, but have to agree that more people are not cleaning up after dogs, kinda muddy on the small dog side since they switched sides, hope grounds people fix this in the spring. One additional thing please keep large dogs on large dog side, we were forced to leave because everyone wanted dogs together and we didn't feel safe with 100 lb dog and our 15 lb dogs in same area. Please respect others at the park, everyone is trying to have safe fun. Thanks

Unfortunately, owners do not pick up after their pets here. Large park was covered in poop. Really, it's a shame. The dog park itself is new and nice. Its very basic, just a fenced in area with a dog water fountain. Wish people would be more respectful and responsible.
