Easy access to trail and baby parks as well. The dog park consists of a small and a big dog park where you can choose which one suits your dog size. I love the access to the trails because of the easy pinpointing to hop on and get a workout going! The park charges $7 inside but park on the side of it to avoid paying the fee, you’re welcome

Location and Accessibility

Schabarum Dog Park is conveniently located within the expansive Peter F. Schabarum Regional Park at 17250 Colima Rd, Rowland Heights, CA 91745, USA. This address places it in the eastern part of Los Angeles County, making it easily accessible for residents of Rowland Heights, Hacienda Heights, and other surrounding communities in the San Gabriel Valley and beyond.

Access to the park is generally straightforward. While there is a parking fee if you park inside the main Peter F. Schabarum Regional Park lot on weekends and holidays (typically $6.00-$7.00 per car), a helpful tip from local users is that you can often "park on the side" or along Azusa Ave, near the PIH Buildings, to avoid this fee. This flexibility in parking options adds to the park's accessibility, allowing visitors to choose what works best for them.

A significant advantage of Schabarum Dog Park's location is its direct connection to extensive trail systems. This provides easy access for owners who wish to combine their dog's off-leash playtime with a scenic hike. This integrated approach to recreation makes it a more comprehensive destination than many standalone dog parks.

The park is typically open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily (though it's always wise to check official county park websites for the most current hours, as they can vary seasonally). This wide range of operating hours provides ample opportunity for visits throughout the day, accommodating different schedules.

Features / Highlights
  • Two Dedicated Play Zones: A standout feature of Schabarum Dog Park is its thoughtful design, which includes separate, securely fenced areas for "small and a big dog park." This crucial separation ensures that dogs can play with others of similar size and temperament, significantly enhancing safety and comfort for all canine visitors. It minimizes the risk of accidental injuries that can occur when large and small dogs interact in the same space.

  • Direct Trail Access: One of the most highly praised aspects of this park is its "easy access to trail." Dog owners can seamlessly transition from an energetic off-leash session in the dog park to a more structured, scenic leashed walk or hike on the extensive trails within the larger Peter F. Schabarum Regional Park. This unique combination offers a complete outdoor experience for both dogs and their human companions, catering to varied exercise needs and preferences.

  • Agility Equipment: The dog park boasts dedicated "dog agility equipment." This provides an additional layer of stimulation and fun for dogs, allowing them to engage in mentally and physically challenging activities like jumping, weaving, and climbing. This feature is a great benefit for active dogs and those owners who enjoy training or simply having fun with their pets.

  • Varied Ground Textures: The play areas incorporate a mix of "real grass" and "decomposed granite." This variety in surfacing offers different sensory experiences for dogs and can be beneficial for paw health, providing both soft areas for play and more durable surfaces for running.

  • Shade Covers and Seating: Understanding the California sun, the park includes "shade covers" and "seating areas & benches." These amenities provide comfortable spots for owners to relax and supervise their dogs, offering respite from direct sunlight and enhancing the overall visitor experience.

  • Beautiful Natural Surroundings: Located within a 575-acre regional park, the dog park benefits from picturesque natural surroundings, including "beautiful yellow flowers" and scenic views along the trails. This aesthetic appeal enhances the enjoyment of every visit, making it a pleasant escape into nature.

  • Drinking Fountains for All: The provision of "drinking fountains (for both dogs and owners)" is a practical and essential feature, ensuring that both pets and their human companions can stay hydrated during their time at the park, especially after vigorous play or a hike.

  • Waste Stations: The availability of "waste stations" promotes responsible pet ownership, making it easy for visitors to clean up after their dogs and helping to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the park for everyone.

Schabarum Regional Park and managed by Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation, Schabarum Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts. Wow!!!! This dog park is surrounded by beautiful scenery and is extremely well-maintained. Everyone picks up after their dogs and is so friendly to one another. There are waste bags provided in case you forgot yours and a water fountain that provides you and your pup with cold, fresh water. And a bonus is the wonderful Schabarum Skyline trail that sits right behind the park.

I was very pleased with how clean and well manicured the parks were. Although neither the large or the small dog areas were very large they were big enough for the dogs to get plenty of exercise. Water is provided but I recommend bringing a water bowl for your pooch since I didn't see any. The adjacent park is great for picnics and has grills and tables available. All in all a very good place for you and your friends and family to spend some time together and have fun.

Dog park had a homeless guy sleeping and homeless people doing drugs outside the dog park. I’m not sure if this is common but not very safe to bring kids. The park was awesome for dogs my pups had a great time.
