Welcome to Rohr Dog Park
For dog owners across California, the joy of watching their furry companions run free, socialize, and simply be dogs is unmatched. In the picturesque community of Bonita, located just outside of San Diego, locals are fortunate to have access to a truly exceptional facility: Rohr Dog Park. This beloved off-leash haven isn't just a patch of grass; it's a thoughtfully designed space that caters to the diverse needs of the canine community, providing a safe, clean, and engaging environment for dogs of all sizes and their human companions.
Rohr Dog Park stands out as a testament to Bonita's commitment to its pet-owning residents. It’s frequently lauded for its serene atmosphere and meticulous organization, making it a peaceful escape for both pets and people. Imagine spending a beautiful California afternoon, your dog happily playing with newfound friends, all while you relax in a tranquil setting. Whether your dog loves to sprint across open fields, engage with agility structures, or simply enjoy a leisurely sniffari, Rohr Dog Park offers the perfect backdrop for memorable moments. Its reputation as a "nice neighborhood dog park" is well-deserved, reflecting a community-focused approach to canine recreation.
Rohr Dog Park is conveniently located at 3605 Bonita Verde Dr, Bonita, CA 91902, USA. This address places it squarely within the heart of Bonita, making it easily accessible for residents across the South Bay area of San Diego County. The park is nestled within the larger Rohr Park, a vast community space offering various recreational opportunities. Parking is available in the parking lot adjacent to the dog park, providing easy access for visitors.
The park is generally open from 7 AM to dusk, offering ample hours for morning romps, afternoon playdates, or even a peaceful hour before sunset, which is often cited as an especially great time to visit. It's important to note that the park is closed for maintenance every Monday from 7 AM to 11 AM to ensure it remains clean and well-kept. This scheduled closure is a testament to the park's commitment to providing a high-quality environment. Its location within Rohr Park means visitors can also enjoy other amenities within the larger park, such as walking trails, sports fields, and picnic areas, making it a versatile destination for a full day out with your family and leashed dog outside the off-leash area.
Rohr Dog Park is designed with both canine and human comfort in mind, offering a range of essential services and amenities:
- Dedicated off-leash areas for dogs to run and play freely.
- Separate, securely fenced sections for small dogs (under 21 lbs) and large dogs, ensuring safety and comfort for all.
- A doggie watering apparatus or water fountain, providing essential hydration for thirsty pups.
- Waste bag dispensers and trash receptacles, encouraging responsible pet ownership and cleanliness.
- Benches and shady seating areas for owners to relax and supervise their dogs.
- Play structures and equipment for dogs to climb and engage in agility exercises.
- Double-gated entrances for added security, preventing accidental escapes.
- Free parking conveniently located nearby.
What truly makes Rohr Dog Park a standout destination for California dog owners are its exceptional features and highlights:
- Size-Segregated Play Areas: One of the most praised features is the clear division into two separate, fenced-in sections: one specifically for small dogs (often noted as under 21 lbs) and another for larger dogs. This thoughtful separation ensures that smaller, more delicate pups can play safely without intimidation, while larger dogs have ample space to romp with peers of their own size and energy level. This feature significantly enhances the safety and enjoyment for all visitors.
- Ample Space to Run: Within both the small and large dog sections, there is "plenty of space to run," allowing dogs to truly stretch their legs and burn off energy. This expansive design is crucial for active breeds and ensures a fulfilling exercise experience.
- Agility Equipment: The park includes "equipment for the dogs to climb" and play structures, offering opportunities for dogs to engage in agility activities. This provides mental stimulation and varied physical exercise, keeping playtime interesting and challenging.
- Convenient Hydration: The provision of a "doggie watering apparatus" or water fountain is a highly valued amenity, ensuring that dogs can stay hydrated during their vigorous play, especially important in California's sunny climate.
- Beautiful & Peaceful Setting: Visitors consistently describe the park as "beautiful & peaceful," contributing to a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere for owners. The park is often highlighted as being particularly pleasant "the hour or so before sunset anytime of the year," suggesting a serene environment for evening strolls and play.
- Well-Maintained: Despite the need for scheduled cleaning, the park is generally well-maintained, ensuring a clean and pleasant environment for dogs and their owners.
As a public park operated by local municipal authorities (likely part of the City of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation, which oversees Rohr Park), Rohr Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discount offers. Its primary value to the community is its free public access, providing a high-quality recreational space without a fee. However, the larger Rohr Park may host various free community events, clean-up days, or recreational programs that residents can participate in. While these are not directly promotions for the dog park, they enhance the overall community engagement and enjoyment of the park area. For specific events or volunteer opportunities, it is advisable to check the official website of the City of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation department or local community calendars. Any fees or specific rules regarding park usage, such as group gatherings or reservations of other park facilities, would be managed by the city's park services.

Jun 07, 2025 · Anita A.This is a nice neighborhood dog park with two separate areas. One for dogs under 21 lbs and another for dogs lager than that. Plenty of space to run and even some equipment for the dogs to climb. It is especially great the hour or so before sunset anytime of the year.
Mar 23, 2025 · John EzraMy dog loves this dog park. The separate sections for big and small dogs is great and both sides are pretty spacious with lots of grass. Sometimes there are big dogs in the small dog section but we haven't had any major issues
Sep 07, 2023 · Alyse NThis dog park is awesome! This is the ONLY dog park that I feel comfortable enough to let my dog off the leash. I have had bad experiences at the balboa park, north park, and etc. Let's just say people don't look after their dogs. On the other hand you have Rohr Park, you will have a great here! My dog is pretty small so we usually hang out in the smaller dog section which is half the size than the big dog section. I don't mind. It's clean and safe. People look after their dogs AND pick up their poop. My dog has never had any issues here. It's also a great place to train your dog. The only con that I can think of is that there are not enough trees for shade. On hot summer days your dog will roast! Mine doesn't last the hour in the small dog section. The larger dog section has less shade than the small section so people usually bring their dogs after the day cools off a little. Overall, great experience. I love this place!
Mar 31, 2021 · ValeriaThe park itself is wonderful. The dog park is like a prison yard filled with anxious dogs. The Rangers were rude to me once, asking only the black people to leash their dogs, while a white lady with 3 dogs got to do as she pleased. I had strong words for the Rangers that day. Plus, My dog does not like it here...
