Great little dog park between two baseball fields and the library. There is currently only 1 area with two entrances, and dogs of any size can go in. (It looked like the smaller dog park is under construction.) There is some agility equipment, and a few benches, some with plenty of shade. It's mainly a dirt park though, and it can get very muddy after it rains. Relatively clean/free from excessive poop, thank you fellow pet owners for responsibly picking up after your fur babies! I wish there was a water fountain for the dogs inside the park though... remember to bring a bowl or water bottle for your pup!

Welcome to Kimball Dog Park
For dog owners across California, especially those in the bustling San Diego County area, finding a dedicated and enjoyable space for your furry friends to run, play, and socialize is a top priority. In National City, a fantastic option has emerged: Kimball Dog Park. This relatively new addition to the community provides a much-needed haven for canines of all sizes, offering a safe and engaging environment for off-leash adventures.
Kimball Dog Park is quickly becoming a local favorite, appreciated for its thoughtful amenities and convenient location. While it’s always a good idea to bring your own water, this park stands out with its commitment to providing a good experience for both dogs and their human companions. It’s a place where tails wag freely, and the joy of canine camaraderie is evident.
Kimball Dog Park is ideally situated at 12th Street & D Ave, National City, CA 91950, USA. Its location offers excellent accessibility for residents throughout National City and neighboring communities in Southern California. The park is nestled between two baseball fields and adjacent to the National City Public Library, making it a convenient stop for families engaging in various activities.
This central positioning means that visitors can easily combine a trip to the dog park with other errands or recreational pursuits. The proximity to community hubs like the library and sports fields ensures good visibility and a vibrant atmosphere. While specific parking details aren't always explicitly stated for dog parks within larger complexes, the general area around the baseball fields and library typically offers street parking or dedicated lots, making access straightforward for those driving. The park’s location in a developed urban area also suggests good pedestrian access for locals living nearby.
Kimball Dog Park is designed to cater to the essential needs of dogs and their owners. While it might seem straightforward, the services it provides are crucial for a successful dog park experience:
- Single, open area for dogs of all sizes: Currently, the park features one main area, welcoming dogs of every breed and size to interact and play together. While a separate small dog area may be under construction, the existing space allows for communal play.
- Off-leash freedom: The primary service is providing a secure, fenced environment where dogs can run, explore, and socialize without the constraints of a leash.
- Agility equipment: The park is equipped with static agility elements, offering opportunities for dogs to engage in stimulating physical and mental exercises, enhancing their playtime.
- Seating for owners: Benches are strategically placed throughout the park, some offering shade, allowing owners to comfortably supervise their dogs and socialize with other pet parents.
- Waste disposal stations: Though not explicitly detailed for every station, the park is noted to be "relatively clean/free from excessive poop," indicating the presence of waste bags or disposal bins and a responsible community of users.
Kimball Dog Park boasts several features that make it a standout choice for dog owners in the California region:
- Newer facility: As a "nice new dog park," visitors benefit from modern construction and equipment, offering a fresh and inviting environment.
- Static agility equipment: This is a significant highlight, providing structured play opportunities that go beyond simple running, helping dogs develop coordination and expend energy in a fun way.
- Ample shade: Some benches offer "plenty of shade," a crucial amenity in the sunny California climate, ensuring comfort for owners during longer visits.
- Community responsibility: The park's cleanliness, despite being a dirt park, is often attributed to "thank you fellow pet owners for responsibly picking up after your fur babies," highlighting a strong sense of community and shared responsibility among users.
- Location between baseball fields and library: This unique positioning provides a dynamic backdrop and potential for combining a dog park visit with other family activities.
- Two entrances: The presence of two entrances to the main area can help manage flow and ease of access for visitors.
- Potential for future expansion: The observation that a "smaller dog park is under construction" suggests ongoing improvements and a commitment to enhancing the park experience for all dog sizes.
As a municipal dog park, Kimball Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special offers in the traditional sense. Its value lies in being a freely accessible public amenity for the community. However, the City of National City Parks and Recreation Department, or local pet-related businesses, may occasionally host or sponsor events at or near the park. These could include:
- Pet adoption events
- Community dog walks or clean-up days
- Basic obedience training demonstrations
- Seasonal dog-themed gatherings (e.g., Halloween pet costume contests, holiday pet photos)
To stay informed about any potential events or community-sponsored activities that might involve Kimball Dog Park, we recommend checking the official City of National City website, their Parks and Recreation section, or local community calendars. Mar 11, 2024 · Caprice VanArsdaleit's a nice new dog park with static equipment. unfortunately, irresponsible citizens are hard at work to turn it into a poo pit. hopefully it doesn't turn into what Eucalyptus dog park is now.
