Con: it is just one big park, there isn't both a big and small park. We were about to leave because there was an aggressive dog inside already, but they left so we were able to enjoy the park. It's a huge park and it also has a nice walking trail along side of it. It has Big tires that dogs can run through and it has a basket full of toys for the dogs to play with.

River Point Canine Park is conveniently located in Weissport, PA 18235, USA. Its address places it squarely within Carbon County, making it easily accessible for residents of Weissport, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Palmerton, and other surrounding towns in Eastern Pennsylvania. The park's location is particularly advantageous due to its direct adjacency to the D&L Trail (Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor), a well-known multi-use trail. This offers a fantastic opportunity for dog owners to combine a visit to the off-leash park with a leashed walk or run along the scenic trail before or after their dog's playtime.
For those traveling by car, there is typically ample parking available, making it a convenient stop for a quick play session or an extended outing. While specific public transportation options directly to the park might be limited given its suburban setting, its proximity to major roads in Carbon County ensures relatively easy driving access. The park’s integration with the D&L Trail means that visitors who enjoy cycling or long walks on the trail can seamlessly incorporate a dog park stop into their outdoor activities. The ease of access from various parts of the region underscores its suitability as a destination for a wide range of local dog owners.
- Large Off-Leash Play Area: River Point Canine Park provides one expansive, fenced-in area for dogs to run and play freely. While some larger parks offer separate sections for small and large dogs, River Point focuses on a single, spacious environment that encourages mixed-breed play and interaction.
- Varied Terrain: Unlike flat, manicured dog parks, River Point features uneven terrain and natural elements, making the play experience more interesting and challenging for dogs. This natural landscape encourages exploration and provides diverse sensory input for active pups.
- Agility-like Features: The park includes large tires that dogs can run through, adding an element of agility and fun to their play. These features provide mental and physical stimulation, encouraging dogs to jump, weave, and explore.
- Shared Toy Basket: A unique amenity at River Point Canine Park is a basket filled with toys for the dogs to play with. This communal toy supply encourages interaction and ensures that even if you forget a ball, your dog will have something to chase and enjoy.
- Direct Access to D&L Trail: While not within the fenced area, the park’s immediate adjacency to the D&L Trail allows owners to take their dogs for a leashed walk or run on the trail either before or after their off-leash playtime, offering a dual exercise opportunity.
- Waste Disposal: While not explicitly mentioned in reviews, standard dog park etiquette and municipal expectations suggest that waste receptacles are available to encourage owners to clean up after their pets, contributing to a clean and hygienic environment for all users. It is always recommended to bring your own waste bags.
- Expansive Open Space: The standout feature of River Point Canine Park is its sheer size. It's described as "just one big park" and "a huge park," providing an unparalleled amount of room for dogs to sprint, chase, and burn off energy without feeling confined.
- Natural Elements and Uneven Terrain: The park’s natural landscape, with trees and varied ground, offers a more stimulating and engaging environment than a flat, open field. This helps keep dogs mentally and physically challenged and makes their playtime more exciting.
- Proximity to D&L Trail: The direct adjacency to the D&L Trail is a major highlight. This allows dog owners to extend their outing with a scenic leashed walk or run, making for a comprehensive exercise routine for both pet and owner. It's a significant draw for active individuals and their dogs.
- Communal Toy Access: The presence of a basket full of toys for communal use is a thoughtful touch that enhances the play experience for all dogs and encourages interaction among them.
- Encourages Varied Play: With large tires to run through and the diverse terrain, the park encourages different types of play, from running and chasing to exploring and interacting with obstacles, keeping dogs engaged and entertained.
As a public municipal park, River Point Canine Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special deals in the traditional sense. Its primary "offer" is free and open access to a fantastic, well-maintained off-leash environment for dogs and their owners. This free access is a significant benefit to local residents of Weissport and the wider Carbon County area, providing an invaluable resource for pet wellness without a membership fee or daily charge.
However, it's worth noting that the value of such a facility extends beyond monetary cost. The community aspect, the opportunity for safe socialization, and the physical and mental stimulation provided are all inherent "special offers" of the park itself.
Local pet-related businesses in Carbon County may occasionally leverage the popularity of the park for their own promotions. It's always a good idea to check local pet supply stores, veterinary clinics, or community event boards in Weissport, Lehighton, or Jim Thorpe for potential announcements related to:
- Adoption Events: Local shelters or rescues might hold events or promote animals ready for adoption, often highlighting the benefits of having a dog park nearby.
- Dog Training Workshops: Local dog trainers might host occasional free demonstrations or offer discounts on classes for dog park regulars, focusing on off-leash etiquette.
- Community Clean-up Days: Occasionally, volunteer groups might organize park clean-up days. Participating is a great way to contribute to the park's upkeep and connect with other dog owners.
- Pet Wellness Fairs: Regional pet fairs or wellness events might be advertised at or near the park, offering discounted services or product samples.
Always check local community resources or the Carbon County Parks and Recreation website for any officially sanctioned events or updates concerning the park.

Mar 22, 2025 · Bonnie TsumThis park is great. Plenty of space to run with trees and uneven terrain to make it a little more interesting for the dogs. It's also adjacent to the D&L trail so you can go for a nice walk before or after.
Jun 25, 2020 · Brian MengelNice big dog park right next to the trail and Lehigh Gap Nature Center so it's pretty damn amazing.
Apr 25, 2025 · Nicole PlumboIt is a great dog park; our dogs love it, and usually, not many other dogs there. Remember to bring water with you as there is no running water.
May 11, 2023 · Keith MurphyOne large enclosure - small and large dogs are not kept separate. There are several poop bag and trash receptacle stations throughout the enclosure. Wish they had a pump for water, but overall a nice park! Can find a few other pups there towards the evening. Watch out for the mud! =)
