Two fenced areas for dogs to play off leash. One is a smaller fenced area straight ahead when arriving through the gate. The second is to the left and has access to wooded areas and trails. My dog had so much fun, but did got bitten by another dog right before we were leaving— so PLEASE MONITOR your dogs to make sure all pups are safe and have fun.

The Off Leash Dog Park, conveniently located in Excelsior as part of the larger Lake Minnewashta Regional Park, offers a fantastic solution. This beloved local spot provides a dynamic environment with distinct zones, ensuring every dog, from the social butterfly to the trail explorer, finds their perfect play area, all within a safe and beautiful setting.
What sets this Off Leash Dog Park apart is its thoughtful design, featuring two separately fenced areas that cater to different play styles and needs. This dual-zone approach allows for varied experiences, making it a favorite among regulars. As one visitor vividly described, "Two fenced areas for dogs to play off leash. One is a smaller fenced area straight ahead when arriving through the gate. The second is to the left and has access to wooded areas and trails. My dog had so much fun..." This setup is ideal for those who appreciate options, whether their dog prefers wide-open sprints or a meandering walk through the woods.
The park's appeal extends beyond its layout. Its location near Minneapolis makes it a convenient escape for a quick dose of off-leash fun without a lengthy drive, providing a welcome alternative to popular, often sandy, spots like Minnehaha. "We love going here when we don’t want to get wet and sandy at Minnehaha! Not too far from Minneapolis for a quick trip!" a satisfied patron shared. While the park generally fosters a positive environment, the importance of owner supervision is also highlighted by reviews. "My dog had so much fun, but did got bitten by another dog right before we were leaving— so PLEASE MONITOR your dogs to make sure all pups are safe and have fun." This serves as a vital reminder that active supervision by pet parents is key to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all furry visitors. Open daily from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the Off Leash Dog Park provides ample time for locals to fit a visit into their busy schedules, offering a valuable resource for canine exercise and socialization year-round.

- Fenced Pond Access: For water-loving dogs, the park includes access to a fenced pond, providing an opportunity for supervised swimming and splashing, weather permitting.
- Water Fountain: A water fountain is available for both humans and pets, ensuring hydration during active play sessions.

Features / Highlights
- Diverse Play Zones: The most significant highlight is the two distinct fenced areas – a smaller one for more controlled play and a larger one with wooded trails – offering variety for both dogs and their owners.
- Wooded Trails for Exploration: The access to wooded areas and trails within the larger fenced section allows for a more adventurous off-leash experience, providing natural stimulation and varied terrain for dogs to explore.
- Pond for Water Play: The fenced pond is a fantastic feature for dogs who love to swim and cool off, especially during warmer months, providing a unique recreational opportunity.

Promotions or Special Offers
As a public facility managed by Carver County Parks, the Off Leash Dog Park in Excelsior does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts. Its primary "offer" to the community is the provision of a high-quality, free-to-use off-leash dog park within a regional park setting.
However, the park's continued maintenance and development by Carver County Parks and Recreation can be considered an ongoing benefit to its users. While vehicle permits for Lake Minnewashta Regional Park were eliminated in December 2019, making overall access to the park more convenient, this is a change in policy rather than a specific "promotion" for the dog park itself.
For any information on specific events, workshops, or temporary initiatives related to the dog park or Lake Minnewashta Regional Park, locals are encouraged to visit the Carver County Parks website or contact their Parks & Recreation department directly. The value for visitors lies in the consistent availability of this well-maintained and diverse public space for their canine companions.

Jun 25, 2024 · Ell WatersWe love going here when we don’t want to get wet and sandy at Minehaha! Not too far from minneapolis for a quick trip!
Jun 11, 2025 · Luke O'NeilA very large fenced in area for furry friends to be free to run around! The place can be muddy at times as trails are mostly dirt trails.
Mar 15, 2025 · Patrick “TooTall” WanousWe love this park but lately the dog mess is out of control. Please do everyone a favor and monitor your pup so you’re able to locate their poopciles.
Jan 23, 2025 · Kate BakerIf you own a dog, clean up after it. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, not the park employee's job. Not coming back for a while. 6 huge piles of dog poo within 15 seconds of walking around an area. All shapes and sizes. This game gets old. If you can't clean up after your pet then, you have no right to have a pet of ANY KIND. Do you want a pet? Get a stuffed one. No responsibility is needed then. The poop problem is solved. Jerks.
