Brought our two pups here; they had a great time. There is a small dog park and a large dog park. The dogs were all well behaved, and dog owners were never too far away in case anything went awry. Definitely more of a dirt dog park than grass. Plenty of seating around in case one wanted to take a seat while doggos play.

Oakwood Dog Park is conveniently located at 910 Brookside Dr, Raleigh, NC 27604, USA. This address places it in the historic Oakwood neighborhood of downtown Raleigh, making it easily accessible for a significant portion of the city's residents and visitors. Its central location contributes to its popularity, as it's not a lengthy drive for most dog owners in the area.
Being part of the City of Raleigh's park system, Oakwood Dog Park benefits from straightforward road access and clear signage, guiding visitors efficiently to the park entrance. This ease of navigation is a major advantage, reducing travel time and allowing for more quality playtime. The park's setting within an established neighborhood also means it's generally well-integrated into the urban fabric, making it a natural part of daily routines for many locals.
Regarding accessibility, the park offers ample parking facilities, which is a significant convenience for visitors. You generally won't have to worry about struggling to find a spot, making for a smooth arrival and departure. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset, providing a wide window for visits to accommodate various schedules, from early morning romps before work to evening play sessions as the day winds down. This extensive operating time ensures that residents have plenty of opportunities to bring their dogs, regardless of their daily commitments. It's also noted that the park has a triple gate entrance system designed to keep dogs secure, though users should ensure only one gate is open at a time for safety.
- Separate Fenced Areas for Large and Small Dogs: The park features distinct, securely fenced sections tailored for different canine sizes and play styles. There's a dedicated "large dog park" for bigger, more energetic dogs and a "small dog park" area suitable for smaller breeds, puppies, or more timid dogs. This separation promotes safer and more comfortable play for all.
- Off-Leash Freedom: Within its designated, fenced areas, dogs are permitted to roam and play freely off-leash. This is a primary service, allowing dogs to fully express their natural behaviors, run at top speeds, and socialize without restraint.
- Running Water / Water Stations: The park provides "running water" and fresh water for dogs, which is crucial for hydration, especially during North Carolina's warmer months. This amenity ensures that dogs can quench their thirst during vigorous play.
- Ample Seating: Numerous benches and seating areas are available throughout the park, offering comfortable spots for owners to relax, supervise their dogs, and enjoy the park's atmosphere. The presence of "plenty of seating/shade" is a consistent highlight.
- Shaded Areas: Recognizing the importance of relief from the sun, Oakwood Dog Park offers shaded areas, often provided by mature trees, ensuring both dogs and their owners can find a cool spot, particularly on hot days.
- Public Restrooms: A significant convenience, public restrooms are located "right outside the park," providing essential facilities for human visitors.
- Dog Waste Bags & Disposal: As a well-maintained city park, it provides dog waste bag dispensers and conveniently located trash receptacles, encouraging responsible cleanup and contributing to the park's overall cleanliness.
- Massive Size: A standout feature repeatedly emphasized by visitors is the park's "massive" scale. This generous space allows for extensive running, chasing, and exploration, preventing overcrowding and ensuring dogs have ample room to play.
- Well-Behaved Dog Community: Reviews consistently praise the "well-behaved" dogs and responsible owners, indicating a positive and respectful atmosphere within the park. This fosters safe and enjoyable interactions for all canine and human visitors.
- Dedicated Zones for All Sizes: The clear separation of play areas for large and small dogs is a crucial highlight, ensuring that all dogs can play safely and comfortably with appropriate companions, reducing potential stress or intimidation.

- Typically Well-Kept: Despite being a popular and active park, it is noted as being "typically well kept," reflecting consistent maintenance and a clean environment.

As a public dog park managed by the City of Raleigh, Oakwood Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts. Its primary "promotion" is the provision of a free, extensive, and well-maintained public space for the community's dogs and their owners. The value it offers comes from its existence as a high-quality recreational amenity without any associated fees for entry or use.
However, the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department often hosts various community events across its park system, some of which may be dog-friendly or related to pet wellness. For example, there was a "June Meet up" scheduled for June 14, 2025, at Oakwood Dog Park, inviting "All are welcome" with friendly dogs. Such events provide opportunities for dog owners to connect, and sometimes offer educational resources or small giveaways. It is advisable for residents to check the official City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation website or their social media channels for announcements regarding upcoming events that might involve the dog park or other pet-centric initiatives.
The consistent maintenance and provision of amenities like running water, ample shade, and waste stations represent an ongoing "offer" to the community, ensuring a positive experience for all visitors without requiring direct payment. For dog owners in Raleigh, the true value lies in having a reliable, spacious, and active place where their dogs can thrive.
