Absolute heaven for dogs! Lots of space to run and play. Plastic kiddie pool for the dogs to cool off in and plenty of water bowls & a source of fresh water for them. The park has a terrific trail through the woods for people & dogs to walk in the shade all within the fenced area of the dog park so it's safe for them. Dog waste bags & trash cans provided; seems dog owners do a really good job of picking up after their dogs. Makes it better for everyone. Can't say enough about this dog park- it is amazing!

Location and Accessibility

Oakhurst Dog Park is conveniently situated at 414 East Lake Dr, Decatur, GA 30030, USA. This prime location places it right next to the Oakhurst Recreation Center (formerly the Boys & Girls Club) and within the charming and historic Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur. This area is well-known for its tree-lined streets, community-oriented atmosphere, and independent businesses, making it a desirable destination for both residents and visitors.

The park's accessibility is a key advantage for local Georgians. It's easily reachable by car, with parking available at Oakhurst Park (specifically the Third Avenue lot) and sometimes at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church (though not on Sundays). Its integration with the larger Oakhurst Park complex means visitors can often combine a dog park visit with other recreational activities in the area. Decatur is well-connected within the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, meaning the park is a manageable drive for many in the surrounding cities and counties.

Oakhurst Dog Park boasts extensive operating hours, open daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, 365 days a year. This wide window allows flexibility for dog owners with various schedules, whether they prefer early morning romps or evening play sessions. It's important to note, however, that the park generally closes for cleaning and maintenance on Fridays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, so it's always a good idea to plan around this if you're visiting on a Friday morning.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public dog park managed by the City of Decatur and significantly supported by community volunteers (Friends of Oakhurst Dog Park), Oakhurst Dog Park does not typically offer traditional commercial promotions or discounts like a private business. Its primary "special offer" is its free access to the public, providing an invaluable recreational resource without a membership fee, unlike some other dog parks in the broader Atlanta area. This accessibility is a major draw for locals.

However, the park's vibrant community engagement often translates into "special opportunities" that benefit visitors and their pets. For instance, the Friends of Oakhurst Dog Park frequently organize volunteer days (every Friday morning from 9 AM to 12 PM for maintenance), which allow community members to actively contribute to the park's upkeep, fostering a deeper connection. The park may also host or be involved in community-wide pet events, such as local festivals, adoption drives, or pet wellness clinics in conjunction with the City of Decatur Parks and Recreation or local animal welfare organizations. These events, while not "promotions," offer unique experiences and often provide valuable services or educational opportunities to pet owners. Locals interested in these community-driven activities should regularly check the official Oakhurst Dog Park website (oakhurstdogpark.com) and the City of Decatur Parks and Recreation website for announcements and schedules.

Big beautiful dog park! Well maintained. All of the dog owners are relatively proactive when their dogs are greeting and interacting with each other. There’s a dirt loop trail at the top of the park that’s a nice walk. Although there were lots of dogs at the park it still felt spacious!

This is my favorite dog park! It’s large enough that even during busy times it doesn’t feel crowded. And there’s a very pretty shaded area that’s great for walking around or resting at one of the picnic tables. It’s not divided by size, which I actually like! The divided parks I’ve been to tend to cause some barrier aggression between the large a small dogs, so I like it being open (although I understand this may not be a pro for some owners - especially with smaller dogs). It also seems to have a really awesome community that comes together regularly to maintain the park, so I’ve never seen it in poor condition. Still haven’t made it to one of those clean up days myself, but I intend to!

This is a great off-leash dog park. Large, fresh water, pools, and a lot of shade. Nice trails, great for sniffer dogs. You have to park at the rec center next door.

Large wood chip filled dog park with a walking trail. There is a lot of room here for pups to run and also a wooded trail. There's a hose and water bowls. Owners are not too uptight and will let dogs be dogs here. Parking is across the street in the church parking lot or next door at the community building.
