This is a private dog park now where you have to pay a $15/month membership fee. Recent negative reviews are from when, I assume, the park was still public and the attached church didn't have the funding to pay someone to maintain it. Now that it has a source of funding (memberships) it is very clean and nice! I think it's a great option to pay for the membership if you live in the neighborhood, since there isn't another dog park nearby. It is closed on Sundays since, you know, it's attached to a church.

Welcome to Ormewood Dog Yard
Hello, Georgia dog owners! Are you seeking a dedicated, well-maintained, and exclusive space for your furry companion to play and socialize in Atlanta? Look no further than Ormewood Dog Yard, located at 1055 Delaware Ave SE. While this cherished local spot may have undergone some changes over time, it has evolved into a fantastic option for residents in the Ormewood Park neighborhood and surrounding East Atlanta areas who are looking for a reliable and clean dog park experience.
Ormewood Dog Yard has a history rooted in community and local support. Originally established by Ormewood Church, it has transitioned from a publicly accessible park to a private, membership-based facility. This shift, as highlighted by recent customer reviews, has been instrumental in ensuring its upkeep and providing a consistently clean and pleasant environment for dogs and their owners. For those who recall a time when the park struggled with maintenance, the current model reflects a successful effort to provide a high-quality space through dedicated funding.
This evolution means that Ormewood Dog Yard now offers a more controlled and well-cared-for environment. The membership model ensures that the park has the resources necessary to maintain its grounds, leading to a much-improved experience for its users. For residents in an area that may lack other nearby dedicated off-leash dog parks, Ormewood Dog Yard fills a crucial void, providing a safe, clean, and convenient space for dogs to run, play, and interact. It's a testament to how community needs can drive innovative solutions for local amenities.
Ormewood Dog Yard is conveniently situated at 1055 Delaware Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316, USA. This address places it squarely within the charming and residential Ormewood Park neighborhood of Southeast Atlanta. Its location makes it particularly accessible for residents of Ormewood Park, East Atlanta Village, Grant Park, and other surrounding communities.
The dog park is located on the property of Ormewood Church, which established the dog park in 2006. This setting provides a somewhat unique context for a dog park, blending a community amenity with a historic local institution. Accessibility by car is generally straightforward, and visitors can expect to find street parking in the vicinity, though specific details on dedicated parking for the dog yard members might be best confirmed directly with the park management upon inquiring about membership.
Being in a largely residential area, the park offers a local feel, making it a convenient destination for neighborhood residents who can often walk with their leashed dogs to the park. While it's tucked away in East Atlanta, its location provides a charming and more organic environment compared to highly urbanized dog parks. The transition to a private, membership-based model means that access is now controlled, contributing to a potentially less crowded and more exclusive experience for members.
As a private, membership-based dog park, Ormewood Dog Yard focuses on providing a secure and well-maintained off-leash environment. Its services are centered around ensuring a consistent, high-quality experience for its members and their dogs.
Exclusive Off-Leash Play Area: The primary service is providing a dedicated, fenced area where member dogs can play off-leash. The "pay-to-play" model ensures a more exclusive experience, potentially leading to fewer crowds and better-behaved dogs.
Regular Maintenance: With a consistent source of funding from memberships, the park can ensure regular maintenance, leading to a "very clean and nice" environment, addressing past concerns about upkeep. This includes groundskeeping and waste management.
Secure Environment: Being a private, fenced dog yard, it offers a secure space for dogs to run and play, reducing concerns about dogs escaping or encountering unpredictable elements often found in public, unfenced areas.
Community Building: While not a formal "service," a membership model often fosters a closer-knit community among regular users. Members frequently see familiar faces, leading to stronger social connections for both dogs and their owners.
Access to Information and Updates: Members typically gain access to exclusive communication channels, such as a website or member portal, where they can find information on park rules, hours, maintenance schedules, and any community events.
The key "service" here is the provision of a reliably clean, safe, and well-managed dog park experience, justified by the membership fee that supports its operation.
Ormewood Dog Yard, in its current member-based iteration, offers several features and highlights that make it an attractive option for local dog owners seeking a dedicated play space.
Private and Exclusive Access: A major highlight is its status as a private, membership-only dog park. This means a more controlled environment, potentially less crowded conditions, and a higher likelihood of encountering dogs whose owners are committed to responsible pet care.
Clean and Well-Maintained Grounds: Customer reviews explicitly praise the park's current condition, noting that it is "very clean and nice" due to the funding provided by memberships. This is a significant improvement over past conditions and ensures a pleasant experience.
Secure Fencing: As a dedicated "dog yard," it features a fence that allows dogs to "run, roughhouse, frisk, and play without the need for a leash," providing peace of mind for owners about their dog's safety within the confines of the park.
Neighborhood Convenience: For residents of Ormewood Park, its location is a key highlight, as it offers a much-needed dog park option in an area where "there isn't another dog park nearby," making it a highly convenient local amenity.
Community-Focused Origins: While now private, the park's history as a volunteer-run and participant-funded space established by Ormewood Church highlights its community-oriented roots, suggesting a continued ethos of local support.
Organic and Rustic Setting (Implied): As described by some sources, the "dog yard" format suggests a more natural or rustic environment compared to highly manicured public parks, potentially featuring a mix of grassy patches, wooded sections, and natural obstacles, encouraging exploration.
As a private, membership-based dog park, Ormewood Dog Yard operates on a subscription model rather than offering traditional public promotions or discounts. The "offer" is the consistent access to a well-maintained facility for a recurring fee.
Based on the provided information:
Monthly Membership: The core "offer" is the $15/month membership fee, which provides exclusive access to the dog park. This fee is described as a "great option to pay for the membership if you live in the neighborhood," indicating its value proposition for frequent local users.
While explicit promotional offers (like first-month free or referral bonuses) are not detailed in the provided reviews, it is common for such establishments to offer:
Introductory Offers: Sometimes, private parks may have a trial period or a reduced fee for the first month to attract new members.
Multi-Dog Discounts: For households with multiple dogs, some private parks offer a reduced rate for additional pets.
Annual Membership Savings: An annual payment option might be available at a slightly discounted rate compared to paying monthly, rewarding long-term commitment.
Community Events for Members: Members-only events, such as holiday parties, dog training workshops, or social gatherings, could be organized, adding value beyond just park access.
To learn about any potential special offers or to understand the full scope of membership benefits, interested individuals should directly contact Ormewood Dog Yard or visit their official website if one is available.
For inquiries about Ormewood Dog Yard, particularly regarding membership, it's essential to reach out directly to the park's management, which is associated with Ormewood Church.

Hours of Operation: According to available information, Ormewood Dog Yard is generally open Monday – Saturday from 2:00 PM until dusk (dependent on the time of year). It is specifically mentioned to be closed on Sundays due to its attachment to a church.
Website: The website http://www.ormewooddogyard.com/ is listed as the official site where you can reportedly "fill out a request for information on their contact us page" and learn about membership options.
Phone: A direct public phone number for the dog park is not widely listed. It is recommended to use the contact form on their website for inquiries, or potentially contact Ormewood Church directly if general information about the property is needed, though specific dog park operational questions are best directed through the dog yard's own channels.
Given its private nature, specific rules regarding vaccinations and dog behavior for membership are likely to be detailed upon inquiry or on their official membership portal. It's always best to verify operating hours and membership details before visiting.
For residents of Georgia, especially those in the Ormewood Park and East Atlanta neighborhoods of Atlanta, Ormewood Dog Yard is a highly suitable and increasingly valuable resource, particularly given its evolution to a private, membership-based model. This transition directly addresses previous concerns and positions it as a reliable choice for local dog owners.
The most compelling reason for its suitability for locals is the consistent cleanliness and maintenance that its membership funding now provides. For dog owners who have experienced the challenges of unkempt public parks, the assurance of a "very clean and nice" environment is a significant draw. This commitment to upkeep means a safer and more pleasant experience for both dogs and their human companions.
Furthermore, its status as a private, exclusive dog park creates a more controlled environment. This can lead to a more predictable and often calmer atmosphere, as members are typically more invested in the park's rules and upkeep. For those living in the immediate vicinity, the $15/month membership fee is seen as a "great option," indicating its cost-effectiveness when considering the convenience and quality of a nearby, well-maintained dog park in an area potentially lacking other options.
The park's neighborhood location is another key advantage. It provides a highly convenient spot for local residents to exercise their dogs without having to travel long distances, integrating seamlessly into daily routines. While the Sunday closure might require some planning, the consistent Monday through Saturday access during daylight hours offers ample opportunity for regular visits.
In conclusion, Ormewood Dog Yard is highly suitable for Atlanta locals who prioritize a clean, safe, and easily accessible off-leash play area for their dogs. Its transition to a membership model has transformed it into a dedicated and well-supported community amenity, making it an excellent choice for responsible dog owners seeking a quality environment for their beloved pets in the East Atlanta area.

Mar 25, 2025 · Katie HaqThe dog yard was run down with a lot of broken chairs around the perimeter. Looks like the grounds haven't received any love for a while. The words overgrown and nasty come to mind. When my 2 dogs, Bella and Milo wouldn't run and explore it, I left.
Aug 14, 2024 · Deborah MayronneMy two dogs - one 72 lbs. and one 14.5 lbs. - love the Ormewood Dog Yard. It is a great place for dogs and people in the neighborhood to meet and socialize. Since it's a neighborhood dog yard, most people know each other and their dogs. The yard is well maintained and has a secure fence. There's no better way to get to know your OP dog-owning neighbors than to come to the dog yard and play!
Mar 13, 2017 · Mary McEneaneyA phenomenal park. Well cared for (thanks to memberships and donations!!) and well stocked (water bowls and a spigot for refills, plus a lot of pre-loved toys to be discovered). We're going to become members, and we'll be back as often as we can. Bring a glass of lemonade and let your pup play!
Mar 19, 2019 · Rebecca MountainRented a home in the area for business and brought our two dogs. Googled dog parks and this one came up. Excited to find one so close. It is in the neighborhood and rather large. We went in and soon the lady who owned the house next door brought her small dog out. The dog seemed to have fun running and being chased by our two but she kept chiding our dogs for scaring her dog. She then informed us she had surgery due to a dog running into her in the park. It was clear she was passive aggressive and wanted us to leave. Our dogs frequent dog parks regularly but we won't return. I guess she thats what she wanted!
