This was an odd park. It's located behind a farm house and around a barn. Very little parking. Only one space for all dogs. There was a bag dispenser, but it was empty. I did not see any trash nor any water. There is a second exit to the fenced park space that appears to lead out into the farm fields.

Welcome to Northford Dog Park
For dog owners in Northford and the wider North Branford area of Connecticut, finding a dedicated and spacious environment where their canine companions can truly stretch their legs and socialize off-leash is a prized commodity. Northford Dog Park, located at 324 Forest Road, offers just such a place. While it possesses a rustic charm, situated behind a farmhouse and barn, this park is a beloved spot for many local pups who crave room to run and play. It's a testament to the community's desire for an off-leash space, providing a valuable outlet for canine energy and a gathering point for pet parents.
Northford Dog Park is praised by its regular users for its generous size and the simple joy it offers dogs. The park features a large, fenced-in grass surface, providing ample space for dogs of all sizes to romp. While it's noted that there isn't a separate area for small and large dogs, the sheer amount of room allows most dogs to find their comfort zone. Reviewers highlight the availability of seating for owners and the provision of waste pickup bags, demonstrating a commitment to responsible use. Despite initial impressions or minor limitations like sometimes-empty bag dispensers or limited designated parking, the park consistently receives high recommendations from those whose dogs thrive in its open environment. It truly stands as a testament to the fact that sometimes, all a dog needs is a safe, expansive area to just be a dog.
Northford Dog Park is officially located at 324 Forest Rd, Northford, CT 06472, USA. It is described as being situated behind a farmhouse and around a barn, giving it a somewhat rural or rustic feel compared to more urban dog parks. This location places it within the charming community of Northford, a section of North Branford, making it easily accessible for residents of North Branford and surrounding towns in Connecticut.
Accessibility, while generally good for local residents, has a few points to note. Parking is available, though some users describe it as "very little parking" or limited. However, other sources indicate "free parking nearby" and that the park is "wheelchair accessible," suggesting that adequate solutions exist. The park is part of the town-owned Augur Property at 290 Forest Road and is open from sunrise to sunset. While one review mentioned a "second exit to the fenced park space that appears to lead out into the farm fields," the park is generally considered a fully fenced, off-leash area. Users should ensure they are entering through the main, secure entrance and be mindful of their surroundings.
Northford Dog Park provides key services and amenities to support a positive off-leash experience for dogs and their owners:
- Spacious Fenced Off-Leash Area: The park features a large, fully fenced enclosure with a grass surface, providing ample room for dogs to run, play, and socialize freely without leashes.
- Multiple Seating Areas: Benches and other seating options are available for owners to relax and supervise their dogs comfortably.
- Waste Pickup Bags: Dispensers are typically present for dog waste bags, encouraging responsible pet ownership and cleanliness. However, users are always advised to bring their own supply as a backup, as they can sometimes be empty.
- Trash Receptacles: Bins are provided for convenient disposal of dog waste and other litter.
- Single Area for All Dogs: The park has one large space for all dogs, meaning there isn't a separate section specifically for small or large dogs. This encourages interaction among dogs of various sizes.
Northford Dog Park stands out for several reasons, making it a valued asset for the Connecticut dog community:
- Ample Running Space: Its primary highlight is the generous size of its fenced area, which allows dogs plenty of room to truly run and explore, something often limited in more compact urban dog parks.
- Natural, Grassy Surface: The park's grass surface provides a comfortable and natural environment for dogs to play on, which is often preferred over paved or gravel surfaces by many owners and their pets.
- Community Favorite: Despite its rustic feel and some amenity inconsistencies, many local dog owners "highly recommend" the park, indicating its strong positive reputation within the North Branford community.
- Dedicated Off-Leash Zone: The designation as an "officially designated dog park" with a "fully fenced, off-leash area" provides a safe and legal space for dogs to exercise without leashes, which is crucial for canine well-being.
- Double-Gated Entrance: The park features a double-gated entrance, which adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that dogs don't accidentally slip out when people are entering or exiting.
- Shaded Seating Area: Some sources indicate shaded seating areas, providing comfort for owners during sunny periods.
It is important for users to understand that while the park encourages free play, individual dogs' temperaments vary. Owners should always supervise their dogs closely, especially since there is no separate area for different sizes.
As a public dog park managed by the Town of North Branford, Northford Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Access to the park is generally free for all residents and visitors, providing a valuable public amenity for canine recreation. The primary "offer" is the provision of a dedicated, large, and safe space for dogs to play off-leash.
However, the North Branford Parks & Recreation Department or local animal welfare groups might occasionally organize community-oriented events or initiatives that benefit park users. These could include:
- Community Clean-Up Days: Opportunities for local residents to volunteer their time to help maintain the park's cleanliness and upkeep, fostering a sense of shared responsibility.
- Pet-Focused Community Events: The town or local organizations might host events like pet adoption drives, responsible pet ownership workshops, or even fun doggy play dates. Information on such events would typically be announced through the North Branford Parks & Recreation website or local community channels.
The park's continued operation and quality rely on the responsible behavior of its users and potential community support. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about any activities or ways to support the park by checking the official Town of North Branford website or local community notices.

Feb 20, 2025 · Kindred WindMy dog loves this park. There’s plenty of room to run around and the park features a fenced in grass surface, with multiple seating areas, and waste pickup bags. You do need to bring your own water though, and there is no division for small and large dogs. If your dog’s on the “barky side” like mine, the lack of division can be intimidating to other dogs at first. Overall, I highly recommend the park and hope the town continues to make it a great place for pets!
Jul 19, 2019 · Anna KotI love that the park has grass, my dog likes it. The downside is that is hard to find. You need to take the road with the sign AUGUR PARK. The dog part is hard to see coming from a road where people drive 60mph. Is behind a house from what it looks like a private road and next to a barn with heavy machinery. No visible designated parking, everyone parked in front of the barn. There is no water in the park so bring your own. And the garbage container is outside the park at the entrance so when you have to pickup after your dog you need to outside the gate and come back. People are friendly in this area
