Maxwell Park is a spacious, well-maintained community space with a lot to offer both people and pets. The dog park area in sectioned off into small dogs and large dogs that are fully gated. The dedicated dog park area is large, mostly dirt with some patches of grass, and includes basic agility equipment for dogs to explore and play on. There are plenty of dog waste bags available, a drinking fountain specifically for pets, and secure fencing all around, making it a safe environment for off-leash play. However, one ongoing issue is that some dog owners do not clean up after their pets, which can detract from the overall experience. The rest of the park is expansive and thoughtfully laid out. There are two well-kept baseball fields, multiple playgrounds equipped with slides and climbing structures, a vast green area for soccer and plenty of green open space perfect for picnics or casual strolls. The mature trees provide generous shade. There are multiple areas that have spots for barbecue with benches. The park also has three spots with exercise equipment. The park is comfortable even on warmer days. It’s clear the grounds are regularly maintained, and the overall atmosphere is clean and inviting. Whether you're bringing kids, pets, or just want to enjoy some outdoor time, Maxwell Park has something for everyone. With a bit more cooperation from dog owners in the designated area, it would be an even better experience. Still, it remains one of the more complete and versatile parks in the area.

Welcome to Maxwell Dog Park

For dog owners across California, the pursuit of an ideal outdoor space where our furry companions can truly thrive is a continuous journey. We seek out places that not only offer ample room for exercise but also provide a safe, clean, and engaging environment for socialization. In the vibrant city of Anaheim, a standout destination for both canine and human enjoyment is Maxwell Dog Park. This dedicated off-leash area, nestled within the larger, expansive Maxwell Park, has quickly become a local favorite, offering a versatile space that caters to the diverse needs of the community. From dedicated areas for different dog sizes to thoughtful amenities and surrounding recreational opportunities, Maxwell Dog Park represents a holistic approach to public parkland.

The philosophy behind a well-designed dog park is simple yet profound: to create a controlled environment where dogs can exhibit their natural behaviors – running freely, playing vigorously, and interacting with their peers – without the constraints of a leash. This freedom is paramount for a dog's physical health, helping to burn excess energy and maintain a healthy weight. Equally important, it provides crucial mental stimulation and fosters positive social development, leading to better-behaved and happier pets. For us, as owners, these parks offer a chance to relax, connect with other dog enthusiasts, and observe our beloved companions enjoying themselves in a secure setting. Maxwell Dog Park embodies these principles, striving to deliver an excellent experience for every visitor, canine and human alike. Its integration into a larger community park also means it caters to families with varied interests, truly offering "something for everyone."

Maxwell Dog Park is conveniently located at 2660 W Broadway, Anaheim, CA 92804, USA. This prime location places it in a highly accessible area of Anaheim, making it easily reachable for residents not only from the immediate vicinity but also from wider sections of Orange County. Situated on West Broadway, a well-known thoroughfare, the park benefits from clear signage and straightforward navigation for those arriving by car.

Accessibility is a key consideration for any public amenity, and Maxwell Dog Park excels in this regard. The park is part of the larger Maxwell Park complex, which typically offers ample parking space. While specific parking situations can vary with peak times, the general consensus points to sufficient availability. For those utilizing public transportation, Anaheim is well-served by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) bus system. Multiple bus routes likely traverse or have stops near West Broadway, making the park accessible to residents who prefer not to drive. Its integration into a comprehensive community park also means it’s often surrounded by residential areas, allowing many locals to enjoy a pleasant walk with their dogs to and from the park, further enhancing its community appeal and reducing reliance on vehicles.

The park's operating hours are also a notable aspect of its accessibility. Maxwell Park is open daily from 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM, providing extensive opportunities for visits, even for those with busy schedules. The presence of lighting for nighttime visits makes it one of the few parks in the area with such extended hours, catering to early risers and evening exercisers alike.

Maxwell Dog Park is designed with both convenience and canine enjoyment in mind, offering a range of services and amenities that enhance every visit. Based on user feedback, here's what you can expect:

  • Separate Areas for Large and Small Dogs: This is a critical feature that ensures safety and comfort for all dogs. The park is clearly sectioned into fully gated areas for small dogs and large dogs, minimizing potential conflicts and allowing dogs of all sizes and temperaments to play comfortably.

  • Drinking Fountain Specifically for Pets: Keeping dogs hydrated is essential, especially in California's often warm climate. A dedicated pet drinking fountain ensures easy access to fresh water for thirsty pups.

  • Plenty of Dog Waste Bags Available: Promoting a clean environment is a top priority. The park provides readily accessible dog waste bag dispensers, encouraging owners to promptly clean up after their pets and contributing to a hygienic space for everyone.

  • Secure Fencing All Around: A robust and secure fence encompassing both dog park sections provides peace of mind for owners, ensuring their dogs can safely run off-leash without the risk of straying outside the designated area.

  • Regular Grounds Maintenance: While not a direct service to users, the park's "regularly maintained" grounds are a crucial aspect of its appeal, ensuring a clean, inviting, and safe environment.

Beyond the essential services, Maxwell Dog Park boasts several key features that contribute to its standing as a premier recreational spot in Anaheim:

  • Spacious Off-Leash Areas: The dedicated dog park area is described as "large," providing ample room for dogs to run, play, and engage in high-energy activities. This generous space is fundamental for fulfilling a dog's natural need for exercise.

  • Basic Agility Equipment: A fantastic highlight for active dogs, the inclusion of "basic agility equipment" offers additional opportunities for mental stimulation and physical challenge, enriching the play experience.

  • Mix of Dirt and Grass: The dog park area is noted as "mostly dirt with some patches of grass." While some might prefer more grass, this combination can be beneficial for drainage and reducing muddy conditions, especially after rain, while still offering some green spaces.

  • Integration with Maxwell Park: The dog park is part of a much larger, comprehensive community park. This means visitors have access to a wealth of other amenities, including:

    • Two well-kept baseball fields

    • Multiple playgrounds with slides and climbing structures

    • A vast green area for soccer and other open field sports

    • Plenty of green open space for picnics or casual strolls

    • Mature trees providing generous shade, making the park comfortable even on warmer days

    • Multiple areas with barbecue spots and benches

    • Three spots with exercise equipment for human fitness

  • Community Atmosphere: User reviews highlight the presence of "cool community" members, indicating that the park fosters a friendly and welcoming environment for both dogs and their owners.

As a public facility operated by the City of Anaheim's Parks and Recreation Department, Maxwell Dog Park generally does not offer commercial promotions or special retail-style offers. Its primary "promotion" is the free access and high-quality amenities it provides to the local community.

However, public parks often serve as venues for, or participate in, various community-focused initiatives that can be considered beneficial "offers" to residents:

  • Community Events and Festivals: Maxwell Park, given its size and comprehensive amenities, is a likely venue for city-sponsored events, seasonal festivals, or community gatherings throughout the year. These events often include activities for families and sometimes even pets.

  • Pet-Related Workshops or Clinics: Periodically, the City of Anaheim or local animal welfare organizations might partner to offer free or low-cost vaccination clinics, microchipping events, or responsible pet ownership workshops at or near city parks.

  • Volunteer Clean-Up Days: Opportunities for community members to participate in park clean-up drives or beautification projects can be seen as a way to "invest" in and "promote" the continued excellence of the park.

To stay informed about any potential events, temporary closures for maintenance, or specific park rules, residents are encouraged to consult official sources.

Maxwell Dog Park is an exceptionally suitable destination for locals in Anaheim and the wider California region, particularly those seeking a comprehensive and versatile outdoor space. Its integrated design within the larger Maxwell Park means it offers much more than just a dog run; it provides a complete recreational hub for families, individuals, and their pets. The clear division between small and large dog areas, coupled with abundant waste bags and pet-specific drinking fountains, highlights a commitment to safety, hygiene, and convenience for all canine visitors.

The fact that the park is described as "spacious" and features "basic agility equipment" directly addresses the need for ample exercise and mental stimulation for dogs, a critical aspect of pet well-being in urban and suburban environments. Furthermore, the extensive amenities of Maxwell Park itself – from sports fields and playgrounds to barbecue areas and exercise equipment – make it an ideal spot for families with diverse interests, allowing everyone to enjoy outdoor time concurrently. The generous shade from mature trees and the park's ability to remain "comfortable even on warmer days" are significant advantages in California's climate.

While a minor issue with some owners not cleaning up is noted, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, recognizing it as "one of the more complete and versatile parks in the area." This speaks to the park's consistent maintenance and its value as a community asset. For Anaheim residents, Maxwell Dog Park is truly a multifaceted gem, offering a safe, engaging, and comprehensive outdoor experience for both two-legged and four-legged family members.

This place has 2 fenced areas. 1 for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. It has some nice structures for dogs to play on and there is shade. It has a water fountain for the dogs too. It's usually busier in the afternoons. Also, there is a lot of open grass on 2 sides outside the fenced dog areas. It's great to let our dog run around on her own when she's not wanting to engage with other dogs. It's a great place!

New dog park in Anaheim. Good amounts of shade in the large dog side. Not a lot on the small dog side, However the dogs don't seem to care. If you do have a small dog keep an eye out, as hawks like to circle the park. Haven't see or heard of anyone loosing a small dog to a hawk, but you don't want to be the first. Also for people in the area (particularly at night) there is a notice that coyotes are regularly in that area. Both sides have double gated entrances to prevent dogs from getting out. As well as drinking fountains for both owners and their pets. They also provide a baggie dispenser for dog waste as well as multiple trash cans. There's lots of parking by the Maxwell library and by the baseball fields. I'm glad Anaheim is starting to put in more dog parks.

It's already has lots of visitors and everyone is having a wonderful time even the humans. Great job anahiems and add more dog parks we need more. And if your worried about the security of this park I wouldn't while I was there a seen a patrol car go thru and thePark has cameras throughout that go to ANAHIEM PD. You also have entrances on Broadway and at the other end of the dog park plus plenty of parking
