Welcome to Matamoras Dog Park
For dog owners in Pennsylvania, especially those in the scenic Upper Delaware River region of Pike County, finding a designated and secure space for their canine companions to exercise freely is a valuable asset. The Matamoras Dog Park, located in the borough of Matamoras, offers just such an environment. This official dog park provides a specific, fenced-in area where local dogs can enjoy off-leash freedom, socialize with other canines, and burn off energy in a controlled setting.
The Matamoras Dog Park stands out as a unique facility due to its specific operational model: it is primarily designed for residents and operates with a membership requirement for non-residents. This structure aims to ensure a more dedicated user base and potentially better maintenance, as users are invested in the park's upkeep. While this approach might not appeal to every passing traveler, for locals, it signifies a commitment to providing a consistent and regulated environment for their pets. It's a place where responsible pet ownership is not just encouraged, but formally required through registration processes, contributing to a safer and more harmonious experience for all who visit.

Matamoras Dog Park is conveniently located on Avenue S, Matamoras, PA 18336, USA. This address places it within the borough of Matamoras, a charming town situated at the confluence of the Delaware and Neversink Rivers, right at the border of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Its strategic location makes it a highly accessible option for residents not only within Matamoras but also for those in nearby communities in Pike County and potentially even neighboring areas of New Jersey and New York, provided they adhere to the park's access policies.
Access to the park is facilitated by free parking nearby, which minimizes any hassle for dog owners arriving with their eager pets. While the park is situated on "Avenue S," its precise entrance within the broader recreational area might require a quick look for first-time visitors. The park is described as wheelchair accessible, indicating an effort to make the facility inclusive for all members of the community. It's important to remember that as a facility managed by Matamoras Borough, its rules and access are specific, particularly concerning the fee structure for residents versus non-residents, which directly impacts accessibility for those outside the immediate borough.

The Matamoras Dog Park focuses on providing the core services necessary for a safe and functional off-leash environment for dogs. While reviews suggest it's a straightforward facility rather than a feature-rich adventure park, it delivers on the essentials for responsible pet owners:
- Fully Fenced Enclosure: The park provides a fully fenced area, which is paramount for allowing dogs to play off-leash safely without the risk of wandering off. This secure boundary is a key service for responsible pet owners.
- Waste Bags Provided: To promote cleanliness and hygiene, the park supplies waste bags. This convenient amenity encourages owners to pick up after their dogs, helping to maintain a pleasant environment for all users.
- Trash Receptacles: Designated trash cans are available for the proper disposal of dog waste. This reinforces the park's commitment to a clean and sanitary space.
- Seating Areas: The park offers shaded seating areas, including chairs and tables, where pet owners can relax, supervise their dogs, and socialize with fellow community members. This provides comfort during visits.
- Accessible Drinking Water: Dog drinking water is provided, which is a crucial amenity, especially during warmer weather, ensuring that dogs stay hydrated during their playtime.
- Members-Only Access (for non-residents): While free for Matamoras Borough residents who register, non-residents can gain access by paying a registration fee. This managed access can contribute to a more dedicated user base and potentially better adherence to rules.
---
Despite some mixed feedback regarding its overall atmosphere for non-residents, Matamoras Dog Park has several features that are noteworthy, particularly from a local user's perspective:
- Dedicated Off-Leash Area: The very existence of a designated, official off-leash park is a significant highlight for dog owners in the area, offering a legal and safe space for their pets to run freely.
- Cleanliness: While not explicitly detailed in recent reviews, the provision of waste bags and proper receptacles suggests an emphasis on maintaining a clean environment, which is highly valued by users.
- Shaded Seating: The availability of shaded seating areas, including chairs and tables, is a practical feature, especially important during sunny days, providing comfort for owners.
- Community Focus: The park's operational model, with free access for residents and a fee for non-residents, indicates a strong focus on serving the immediate Matamoras Borough community, fostering a local sense of ownership and responsibility.
- Strategic Location: Situated in Matamoras, the park benefits from being in a picturesque region of Pennsylvania, offering local visitors a pleasant backdrop for their dog outings. It's often considered part of the larger "Airport Park" area, which can offer additional recreational opportunities nearby.
- Managed by Matamoras Borough: Being a borough-managed facility means it operates under official local government oversight, implying established rules and a commitment to public safety and maintenance.
It's important for potential visitors, especially those from outside Matamoras Borough, to be aware of the visitor fee for non-residents and the strict rules governing other activities within the broader park area (e.g., no bikes, scooters in certain sections). This suggests a focus on the dog park specifically as a dedicated canine recreation space, rather than a multi-purpose park for human activities.
---
As a public park operated by Matamoras Borough, the Matamoras Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its value proposition is its existence as a managed, dedicated off-leash space for dogs. However, its fee structure can be seen as a form of "offer" for local residents versus non-residents:
- Free Access for Matamoras Borough Residents: Residents of Matamoras Borough can register their dogs and use the park for free. This is a significant benefit for local taxpayers and dog owners.
- Non-Resident Fee: For non-residents of Matamoras Borough, there is a $15.00 annual fee per family (as per available public information from Matamoras Borough's "Pooch Pass" form). This fee contributes to the operational costs, including insurance, supplies (like waste bags and tags), and maintenance (like lawn cutting and filling holes). While some external reviews have noted this fee, from the borough's perspective, it's a necessary contribution for non-locals to utilize a maintained municipal amenity.
Any community-wide events related to pets or the park, such as responsible pet ownership days, vaccination clinics, or park clean-up initiatives, would typically be organized by Matamoras Borough or local animal welfare groups in coordination with the borough. These would be announced through official borough channels, local community newspapers, or relevant social media. Dog owners interested in such initiatives should regularly check the Matamoras Borough official website or local community boards for announcements.

Oct 24, 2024 · Mike O'BrienVisitor Fee $15 I’m sure locals like it but for a traveling stop it’s a big NOPE. 👎
Apr 28, 2025 · Julia GermanHow can you have a dog park but you can only allow service dogs to enter the dog park. Make this make sense.
Apr 17, 2025 · rosalie kehlenbeckAfter traveling 2 days, we wanted to let our dog run free and get some exercise. That is until we read the sign that you have to have a pooch pass, otherwise you are required to pay $15.00. And the sign reads “strictly enforced “. WTH? We felt like we were going to be hauled off to jail for a less than 10 minute run. Ridiculous dog park rule ever!
May 15, 2022 · Mary SmithIt's just a fenced in patch of grass. The only bonus is that there's a picnic table under a little shelter to get out of the rain. There are chairs there and a water bowl. You have to have a dog pass though, it's not open to everyone.
