Pretty great park. Peak hours depend on how hot/ cold it gets. Huge fenced area where dogs can run around and get tired in. Wish there was more grass. There’s little patches of grass but none really. Over a pretty good park with a lot of places to sit but no shade really.

Maddox Park Dog Park goes beyond just an open field, offering a range of services and amenities that enhance the experience for all visitors:
-
Expansive Off-Leash Dog Area: The primary service, providing a vast, securely fenced space where dogs can run freely, play fetch, and socialize without the constraints of a leash. This allows for essential physical and mental stimulation for your pet.
-
Well-Maintained Restrooms: A significant convenience for human visitors, the park features restrooms that are noted for being well-maintained and clean, a crucial amenity for families spending extended periods at the park.
-
Water Fountains: Equipped with water fountains, ensuring that both dogs and their owners can stay hydrated, especially important during warm San Diego days.
-
Waste Stations: To encourage responsible pet ownership and maintain cleanliness, the park provides waste disposal stations, often stocked with bags, for easy cleanup.
Maddox Park Dog Park boasts several key features that contribute to its appeal and functionality:
-
Huge Fenced Area: A prominent highlight is the exceptionally large fenced area dedicated to dogs, offering ample room for them to really stretch their legs and get thoroughly tired out. This vast space prevents overcrowding and allows for diverse play.
-
Integrated Playground for Kids: A unique and highly praised feature is the presence of a dedicated playground for children. This makes Maddox Park an ideal destination for families with both dogs and kids, allowing everyone to enjoy their outdoor time concurrently.
-
Large Field for General Use: Beyond the dog park, there’s an awesome open field suitable for various activities, such as kicking a ball around, personal exercise, or simply enjoying the open space. This adds to the park's versatility.
-
Community Gathering Area: The front section of the park often serves as a "little community area," providing a space for people to gather, relax, and socialize, fostering a friendly atmosphere among park visitors.
-
Ample Seating: The park offers a good number of places to sit, allowing owners to comfortably supervise their dogs or simply relax while enjoying the park environment.
-
Minimal Grass (as noted by users): While a huge fenced area is available, it's worth noting, based on customer reviews, that the grass coverage may be minimal in some sections, with more dirt or decomposed granite. This is a practical consideration for owners regarding their dog's paws or cleanliness after play.
-
Limited Shade (as noted by users): Visitors have pointed out that there isn't extensive natural shade within the main dog park area. This is an important detail for planning visits during peak sun hours in San Diego's warm climate, suggesting bringing your own shade or visiting during cooler parts of the day.
As a public park operated by the City of San Diego, Maddox Park Dog Park does not typically feature commercial promotions or special offers like discounts or sales. Access to the park and its amenities is generally free of charge, ensuring it remains an accessible recreational resource for all local residents. Any "special offers" you might encounter would likely be related to community-organized events, such as pet adoption drives, free dog training clinics, or local festivals that utilize the park's facilities. To stay informed about such community events, it’s advisable to check local San Diego community calendars, pet-related social media groups, or the official City of San Diego Parks and Recreation website. The primary value of Maddox Park Dog Park lies in its consistent availability as a free, safe, and versatile space for recreation.

Aug 10, 2021 · Yajaira MarinAwesome park. With kids: there is a great playground for them to wear out their energy on. And an awesome field for them to kick a ball around on. Without kids: a great size field to walk around and get your excercise in. A little community area in the front with restrooms that are well maintained and clean. As well as water fountains.
Oct 31, 2024 · Jenny BruguerasGreat neighborhood dog park. One of the few in Mira Mesa. Gets a ton of use so there isn't much grass, but there are some areas with shade. There is also a water fountain and plenty of bowls to fill up. Bags are also provided so you can pick up after your pup!
